    T Sportline horrible customer service

Stumbled onto this thread a bit too late. I placed an order last week for a set of wheels and tires that I have now found out I need desperately (my current tire has a hole). The website stated in stock and ships within 1-3 business days. The order is still unfulfilled and phone calls go...

    EV01(+) 19x8.5" on Model X

Following up on this. I'm going to replace my X's 22" wheels with smaller rims. Did you end up purchasing? What was the efficiency afterwards?

Best Tire and Wheel Combination for Maximum Range

Reviving this old thread. I have a 2020 (Raven) MXLR+ and the 22" tires are about to die. I'm looking to replace them with smaller rim wheels + tires. Reasoning is that 22" performance tires are generally more expensive and have shorter lifespan. Along with the reduction in range. What's a...

Different range ratings for Long Range Plus MX?

I'm in the market for a used MX (new with 6 seater is too exp and also doesn't qualify for the EV tax credit). I've noticed that the EPA range (on Tesla's used inventory) vary a lot for the 2021 Long Range Plus. Some state 351 mi of range while others state 371 mi of range. Is there any actual...

Max wattage of the rear cigarette plug?

I'm planning on road-warrioring in the Y and was wondering what the maximum wattage output was of the rear cigarette lighter. I was planning on getting an inverter and plugging in my laptop plus phone chargers/mobile hotspot, etc. That would likely require ~100W at peak charge. Anyone know the...

Supercharger rate increase and cost of electricity in San Diego area

I have a theory that the prices reflect a need to discourage supercharging at particular locations. The one in Sorrento Valley, for example, used to be packed. I just charged there and at $0.36/kWH, the charger wasn't even half-full. Which I'm fine with. I was a on a road trip and it always...

Model 3 18" Aero wheel snow chains

Interesting. Has anyone tried the autosocks? I ended up buying those instead. Hoping I can pop them on if needed. Just how bad are the stock tires vs winter tires? Will they do in R1 conditions?

Model 3 18" Aero wheel snow chains

Planning a trip to Tahoe (on highway 50) early Feb. I have the LR RWD M3 with 18" Aeros. In case of R2 road conditions (and just to be safe), I believe I need chains? I've installed chains on the front wheel of other cars before just fine. However, it seems it'd be difficult to put on the rear...

Transferring a Model 3 reservation = no problem?

Post-VIN assignment and pre-delivery. It was a 3. I gave my friend my Tesla login upon receiving the invitation to configure. He filled out the details (registration, trade-in, DL pictures, financing, etc.). There was no issue filling in his name instead of mine. After receiving a VIN, I...

Transferring a Model 3 reservation = no problem?

I haven't transferred the reservation, but I've transferred a car after receiving a VIN to a friend's Tesla account (and the car was registered in his name). Yes, it requires a lot of trust (no selling a reservation to random strangers), but it does mean you can "give" your reservation to a buddy.

Model 3 standard range postponed until Early 2019

I don't think Tesla knows their plans. It kinda changes day-by-day based on their production capability (and to a smaller degree, external forces such as interest rates; Tesla has a *lot* of debt). What this looks like to me is that they've cracked the engineering to add a second motor. So...

Model 3 standard range postponed until Early 2019

I'm sorry to hear that. But this is par-for-the-course for Tesla. The roadster, Model S, Model X all never felt like their price range from a "trim" perspective. The Model S trim is comparable, IMO, to a high-optioned Civic. Except it ranges from $70-140k instead of $20-30k. For me, that's...

    Charging port

Thanks! Has anyone gone to a supercharger station and used the button on the connector to open the charge port? It doesn't work for me. I haven't tried the mobile charge connector yet.

    Charging port

I've had the M3 for about a week now. All seems to go well except for a few issues with the charging port: 1. The mobile app keeps saying the charge port is open even though it's not. 2. The button on the supercharger connector doesn't open the charge port. Anyone else having similar issues?

    Best wireless pad

I'm going to try to fit a wireless pad where the phones usually sit. Ideally, I'd like a non-slip pad that I can just rest my phone on top of and have it work. Since the cables that came with are USB-C and Lightning, I'd have to use a converter to micro-USB since that's what most charging pads...

    VIN Assignment

I think the premium features also differentiates as that includes a glass roof along with different assembled parts. I have to imagine they made more of those as that's higher ASP. Hopefully, I get a call soon but I'll be out of town after the 23rd :(

    VIN Assignment

Thanks! Just curious but what configuration did you end up choosing? I went with midnight silver and stock wheels, premium features.

    VIN Assignment

Does any progress show on your mytesla page? Or do you have to email/call them to see if something (waiting for financing, etc.) is needed before things move forward? In Bay Area, reserved 3/31/16 online. Previous owner. Invited to configure 12/15 and configured 12/15.

    Leasing

That sucks. I might have to evaluate how much I want an early production... There's also the issue that I'd likely want to upgrade in a 2-3 year timeframe to whatever the newest iteration is. My 2013 MS missed out on so many features it felt antiquated by late 2014...

    Leasing

Anyone have a guess at whether leasing will be available for first production? After being a (relatively) early MS owner, I'm not particularly keen on owning another early production car. Have 2 M3's on order. One will probably be the AWD one sometime in late 2018.

    Pictures of production Model 3s

Hmmm, it seems like there are no brackets to mount a roof rack like the MS. Are any current owners planning on a Thule solution of sorts?

Installing ski/bike rack without default option

Hey all, I'm a bit confused about how the X hitch works. From googling, it looks like there's a pop-open slot to put in a trailer hitch adapter. Is that built in to every X? Can you take the hitch/rack off one X and put it on another that wasn't ordered with that option? Thanks!

Renting or car-swapping with a 7-seater Model X for Labor Day Weekend

Hi all, I'm in the Bay Area and am making a Tahoe trip for Labor Day weekend. My Model S can only fit 5 adults and I have a bunch of friends interested in carpooling (and taking fewer cars). Would anyone in the are with a Model X 7 or 6-seater be willing to let me rent and/or car-swap with...

    Lease vs. Cash

I think it's more than just battery capacity and charge rate. Cars seem to be the platform all the major tech guys are trying to innovate on. So we're in for quite a few years of advancement on a lot of fronts -- autonomy, connectivity, creature comforts, etc. Much more so than the rate of...

    Lease vs. Cash

I wish I had leased my Model S instead of purchasing. The trade-in (or even sale value if I were to list it myself) is at best on par if not below what a lease would've cost (about $1500/mo). I think, especially with electric cars, depreciation is a big problem. Not necessarily because the cars...

Is there a way to tell your place in line?

I placed mine online around 7:30 and then another one at 8:30. I figured current owners get priority but I don't know what kind of "priority" that'd be.

    UI speed

Damn. You'd think they'd have put some effort into updating the hardware. The current functionality is getting worse and worse every year. I've gotten to the point where starting nav means I have to wait ~10s for the rear camera to show up. Also, is there a bug report functionality for the...

    UI speed

I have a 2013 Model S. Over the past few updates, the UI has become painfully slow. Particularly when navigating. The GPS plot seems to grind the computer to a halt. Does this exist on newer models? Do other owners of older Model S's see this as well? I wonder if they've swapped the computer...

Model S Depreciation significantly higher than expected

I wonder why mileage is such an important factor in price for a Model S. For a gasoline car, it makes sense as there are so many moving parts that wear down over use. But for an electric car....there's the motor (which is covered under warranty for quite some number of years) and the battery...

    Good second cars

I love my Model S but there are certain places I just won't bring it to. We go off into the mountains a lot -- some are within range of a single charge while others aren't. But regardless, I'm far too protective of my Tesla to take it on rough roads. So my question is, what do people here use...

Actual miles since last charge + rated miles left not adding up @ < 300wh/mi

What I've noticed is that since the last software update, the "rated miles" has changed. It used to be that maintaining ~290WHr/mile got me the rated range. However, now, it seems closer to 260WHr/mile. This is on a P85. What I do notice is that at 90% SoC, my rated miles went from 220-223 to...

    Charging in Las Vegas

I noticed that there's a HPWC at MGM the last time I was there. There's also a pair of J1772's alongside. At least with HPWC, you know no other EV will take that spot.

"Vehicle Systems Very Hot. Charge Speed Reduced"

I got this as well at the Harris Ranch Supercharger a few weeks back. When I brought in my car for service, they found they had to replace the cooling pumps in the battery system.
  37. M

Why does accelerating fast use more energy than accelerating slowly?

You're not wrong. In an ideal case (no friction/resistance), the energy used is exactly the same. Potential energy in the battery becomes kinetic energy of the car. Conservation of energy. Ideally, when you decelerate using regenerative braking, you'd gain back all of the energy you used...
  38. M

    Decreasing rated range.

IIRC, the "rated miles" does change based on driving pattern. The "ideal miles" option doesn't, which is the same as displaying kWH. But I'd rather not have to do that conversion in my head.
  39. M

    Decreasing rated range.

That's not really true though.... Rated miles is an estimate that varies based on the energy efficiency of the car. But kWH is the absolute capacity of the battery that is independent of how efficient the car is. How much energy you have left (within ~1% for measurement accuracy) isn't a guess.

    Body Shop recommendations

So I recently put a small dent in my bumper :( It's not big and I think it should be repairable. But I'd like recommendations as to body shops in the bay area. Someone whose able to match the paint well, and do a good job with the aluminum, etc. Thanks!

Repairing a dent on the bumper

So I did a booboo :( I backed into a bucket that was up against a wall and it scraped my bumper. Not only that, it's slightly dented. I was wondering what people's experiences were with repairing vs replacing the bumper. Since it's aluminum (right?) it can't really be reformed back into its...

    Driving style...

For me, a lot of it is OCD. I have my energy usage displayed on the dash and anytime I see a number I can affect.... I try to maximize it. There's no reason to baby energy usage and a lot of times I don't. But it's just a fun game for me to play. It's not so much fun for others on the road...

Correlating Wh/Miles with rated and actual range

So while driving, I tend to stare at my Wh/Mile rating and wonder about how the numbers correlate. I've noticed that to even get close to the rated miles, I have to hover around (a bit below actually) 300Wh/mile. But a back-of-the-envelope calculation says that to get my rated 260 miles at...

    That was so close!

Out of curiousity, what made you choose the Michelin Pilots over the Continentals? I'm at about the mileage where I need to plan out my tire replacement (12k and gonna add another 1k this weekend) and I'm curious what my options are.

Capped regen even at below 90%

So it's getting colder in the bay area these days and perhaps that's the reason but I've noticed lately that my regen is capped at ~30kW or so nowadays (seems inconsistent) at various battery charge levels. Previously, it'd only be capped if I was at 100% or close -- which made sense, you can't...

    Firmware 5.8

In the new Nav, is there a way to revert to the behavior where a search list is returned after searching for something? I notice that here in Mountain View, when I search for "Peets" for instance, it'll auto-navigate to one in San Francisco instead of the nearest one. I can push the refresh...

California / SF Bay Area: Detailer recommendations

So I've tried washing the car myself and despite my best efforts, I get the feeling I just cannot clean the paint as well as a professional detailer. Can anyone in the SF Bay Area recommend a detailer that will do a good deep clean with a clay bar? Perhaps apply a coat of finish after along...

    Model S Software/Firmware wishlist

Something I've noticed when connecting my phone via bluetooth (Galaxy S3) is that the microphone built into the car only works when making a call. Using Google voice commands on my phone, for instance, will not work. When connected via bluetooth, my phone simply won't hear anything I say...
