Headlights always on after windshield replacement

I had two windshield replacements. Both times one of my headlights was out. First time SC replace the headlight assembly and also applied a new FW (not realizing that the two could be related). After the second windshield replacement and another non-functioning headlight they just re-apply the...

Charge Port No Longer Locking with Car?

I also can unplug my Gen 1 HPWC charge handle on my locked 2017 MS FW v8.1 (2017.28c528869) but the car has to be in energy savings mode ("sleeping"), no key, and no charge port light. After I pull out the handle the charge port door automatically closes.

    Farewell my "Classic" Friends

Same here. My good old Sig to be traded in a few months for a P100D. I miss it already.....(maybe I will keep it).

    Firmware 6.2

Just updated from v6.2 (2.4.136) to v6.2 (101.36.2) on my P85 Sig. New? "Model S will now display charge time remaining when you are Supercharging or CHAdeMO charging".

Just talked to John on the phone and am ordering a pair as well. Thanks for all the great info!

    HPWC kapoooooooot!

Good point. That would be the proper way to diagnose the circuit.

    HPWC kapoooooooot!

A blown fuse in the HPWC can/will show proper voltage. Only a resistance measurement will tell you if it is really blown. I am not saying that it could not be the relay but statistically the fuse has a higher probability.

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

I also used an infrared thermometer (Fluke 68) besides the FLIR. Anyway...details, we agree it gets really really hot. TIG welding anyone:)

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

Never have I had the handle get to 170F, even when the ambient temp was 90F.
  12. S

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

Ambient around 82F. Handle temp 125F. SOOW cable for 130F-170F (you can guess the hottest spot)!!

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

Charging at 80A is some hot stuff.

    Firmware 4.5

Same here but the drivers side front always seems to extends on touch....

    Firmware 4.5

I was referring to "pause" ie. "mute". I know for sure the Radio does not stay "paused" all the time but now that you guys mention Slacker does...I will have to recheck. Thought I had the same issues there but maybe not...

    Firmware 4.5

Interesting...the Radio (any audio source) coming on automatically when entering the car (not every time BTW), when put on mute on exiting, is definitely new for me with .61. I can not say I remember the fog lights ever coming on unlocking the car but I can not be certain.
  17. S

    Firmware 4.5

.61 brought about a few new bugs for me: Radio does not stay muted on re-entering the car. From time to time when actuating the door hadles with the keyfob the fog lights will come on.

    Model S Software/Firmware wishlist

No way...I will have to check it out tomorrow. I have bought weathertech for many years and these just looked the OEM.

Model S Technical / Mechanical Issues

Here is kind of a funny one (FW 1.33.59): While parked I entered an address into the NAV to see time and distance. About a minute or so later I hit cancel navigation.....all doors made an unlocking sound and the passenger door opened. Tried to replicate but could not. Keep you posted....

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

Thanks for the info. I wonder how they will know who is properly fused? Anyway one can just over-ride the 60A in the mean time. That is how I have been blowing fuses. Hurry hurry I need a quicker charge....:)
  24. S

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

The retrofit kit depicted by cinergi in my opinion is a good design. Easy to install, good fuse spacing, and hopefully effective in what it is trying to achieve.
  25. S

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

Frankly I believe that theory is wrong. There are many reasons for that. Conduction is the main mechanism for heat transfer here. Also the system is enclosed. Now because of that the temp could get high enough to cause a problem....lets see how the new fuses hold up.
  26. S

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

Just as an FYI. You can get the new fuses (JJN-200) to work with the original bus bar in the same orientation if you cut away some of the "ribbing" on the inside of the HPWC housing. This gives just enough room for the larger fuse. Also I would place some insulating material (teflon, Kapton...
  27. S

    HPWC kapoooooooot!

I would still think one of the internal fuses is "blown". Are you sure you have the new JJN-200 fuses? Turn the breaker off. Open the HPWC and see which ones you have. If they are the old TJN-100 fuses, then more than likely that is the problem. Remove the fuses and measure the resistance. Of...

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

cinergi: .... you are right, looks like brackets should be removed, etc. FlasherZ: .... thanks for your explanation. Makes sense. My concern with the 200A rating was on the component level. But then again I have not really looked at the components:)
  29. S

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

Thanks cinergi: How are the attached brackets suppose to fit our generation HPWC or are you suppose to remove them? (Going by memory)... Also they are rated for 200A. Is this safe? Spec: Product Information for Bussmann JJN-200 Bussmann UL Class T Fuses, JJN Series Item# JJN-200 - FUSE, 200A...

Model S - HPWC (High Power Wall Connector)

Same here. Been that way for a while never had any issues until two days ago. A charge from an almost empty bat @80A, the garage being in the high 90F. One of the HPWC fuses blew. Awaiting updated fuses. Maybe next week.

    Firmware 4.4

It seems to me that Tesla does not have the hardware consistency to guarantee universal software fixes. This is rather typical. In my career, I have had many instances where hardware vendors chanced specs which brought about unexpected software issues. etc. To date my Google map issue has been...
  33. S

    Firmware 4.4

Not sure if this was mentioned yet... Two more changes I noticed are: 1. Google Maps now refreshes the whole display when changing from night to day. 2. Fan speed now responds instantly after selecting. Headlight preferences are still not stored (maybe intentional they always go back to Auto).
  34. S

    Firmware 4.4

Just installed 4.4 (1.31.11). I now get the message that I have an old HPWC and should not charge above 60A, etc. It can be overwritten however...

App climate control. How long will it stay on?

Aaron, Are you sure? I read somewhere 1 hour regardless of temp? Could be wrong.... Cheers, Willem

    Is ambient light buzzing resolved?

Still buzzing. No way this will be a SW fix. Screen or LED driver/power electronics replacement sounds much more plausible.

High Power Wall Charger - Tesla recommends temporarily cutting amps

A little off topic. I bought a five pack from automationdirect.com, here: TJN100 They seem to have pretty good prices (same Edison brand as is in my HPWC).

Power drain while idle (Vampire Load)

Very informative tezco! It also shows that yobigd20 static losses are way too high. I still do not understand why there would be in increase in "kWh-Drawn From Wall" with decreasing temperature. If we can believe TM that thermal management is not enabled, so what causes this? I am somewhat...
  42. S

Power drain while idle (Vampire Load)

There is so much we do not know about the actual charging process and static loads... We are told by TM that when the cars is at rest, the battery's thermal management is at rest as well. We can reason that when the temperature drops the system re-calculates the range based on that new...
  43. S

Power drain while idle (Vampire Load)

yobigd20, those numbers are absurd. Not sure if you posted earlier but have you contacted TM tech support or your local service center? It would appear there is more going on here than the "normal" parasitic load we are all seeing.
  44. S

Power drain while idle (Vampire Load)

Even though I would have to agree that "Power Off" will have some energy savings (15 mins before auto-shut down) and those savings would certainly depend on the frequency you do a complete power up / auto-powerdown, for longer term it has no practical effect what so ever. Personally I do not...

Power drain while idle (Vampire Load)

I definitely saw quite a bit of variance with temperature. I discarded those data points for this discussion (there were 6kWh days). I am also running 4.3 since it was released and in a week or so will post if I see any definitive improvements. We need sleep mode...!!!
  46. S

Power drain while idle (Vampire Load)

Initially to a 50A/240V outlet but the last three weeks or so to the HPWC (i.e. 80A/240V) - - - Updated - - - Did not get any winter tires and still have a PU for the winter months + we got ALOT more show in MA then anticipated.... Indeed the power drain is NOT good. Was going to take...

Power drain while idle (Vampire Load)

My P85 has been in the garage for the last 2 months, always plugged in. The garage is kept at approx. 40F. Of that time I have been data logging for about 32 days. The average power consumed in a 24H period is 3.6kWh. Just wanted to add another data point to the thread.... Cheers.
