10/21 Munich Tesla Event with Elon Musk

Hotels Yosemite Valley There is a 7kW J1772 EVSE at Yosemite Village. The EVSE is upgradable to 16 kW if they come up with the circuit. Of course, a 16 kW EVSE at the Ahwahnee would be a welcome improvement.

J1772 Charging for the Tesla Roadster

Yes, J1772(tm) charging stations are usually 30A.... but there is a 48A J1772(tm) in San Ramon, and a 75A J1772(tm) in Auburn. The new J1772(tm) standard goes up to 80A, and there are cables and connectors available at 75A. The ClipperCreek CS-100 supports the 75A cable and connector. See...

J1772 Charging for the Tesla Roadster

We need to keep the public small-paddle chargers for some time to come. There's no practical way to convert a RAV4 EV or other inductively charged vehicle to J1772, short of carrying a 70-lb charger around.

I tried to follow your directions for finding your user-created maps in Google maps, without success. I used the search options pull down for "user-created" and searched on "Tesla," but got no hits. Do I need to be in a specific location or area in Google maps first? What's the secret...

That's true of non-metallic cable (Romex) and other building cables, where you will see designations such as "12-2 W/G" (12-2 with grounding wire), but it is not generally true of appliance cords. See, for instance, http://www.awcwire.com/ProductSpec.aspx?id=Type-SOW-SO

J1772-2001 versus J1772-2010 J1772-2010 is the latest version. In that version, Level 2 goes up to 80A, with steps at 56A, 64A, 70/72A, and 80A. Level 3 has been divided into AC quick charging and DC quick charging. The SAE quick charging standards are under development, not yet...

Tesla Charging Stations in the wild

secret location I received an email from Doug. The so-called "secret" charger is a TS-90 (70A delivered) at an undisclosed residential location. It's faster than the one in SLO only because it's 240V rather than 208V. No mystery, really.

EVCM/EVCN have been leaders for years in GPS technology. Have you checked the "Precisifier," for instance? With some limitations, EVCN/EVCM work on iPhones via Safari right now. We plan to do some tweaks to improve stability and functionality. It is possible to submit real-time reports...

You can already ask your GPS for the nearest charger. GPS files are available on request. Automatically and regularly updated is a different story, however. For true automatic updating, we need network-enabled chargers. People are working on that.....

NEMA14-50: How much current can you pull?

There are no NEMA 40A outlets. I don't find anything in the Code that prohibits installting a 14-50 receptacle on a 40A circuit. It's fairly common. It's OK to install a 15A receptacle on a 20A circuit, but it is not OK to install a 20A receptacle on a 15A circuit. The 80% rule applies...

It's a little late in the life of the product to be making such a change, but the driver could easily modify the delivered product if desired. Roadster owners are not the only buyers of these boxes. The Roadster driver can set the a lower value (30A or 32A -- I'm not sure which) from the...

Sorry, I misunderstood your use of the word "paddle." Usually, the Avcon connector is called a "claw," and the inductive connector is called a "paddle," as in "large paddle" or "small paddle." I thought you were looking for an adapter from an inductive charger to a 14-50, which would be...

Avcon inlet to 14-50 adapters The main use of the Avcon inlet to 14-50 adapter would be road trips within public Avcon territory, by Roadster drivers who have some form of MC-240. I've seen reports of use in places like Santa Cruz, Monterey, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, Malibu, Rohnert...

    Fewer AVCON charging stations

Avcon inlet adapters Why do they say "don't bother buying them?" If they don't want them, let's get them into the hands of folks who will use them. The Avcon inlets are getting scarce.... Many Tesla drivers (including JB and other Tesla employees) have found them quite useful on long trips.
