Spotify Bitrate Measured at 160kbps. …and 128, and 256, and… well, let’s talk about it!

Thanks! I haven't listened to a Model S sound system, but I wasn't impressed with my 3LR sound system. When I first got it (end of 2019) the Spotify streaming was terrible, but the system hardware also sucked. I find the bitrate now is good enough, but I wasn't able to live with the stock...

Spotify Bitrate Measured at 160kbps. …and 128, and 256, and… well, let’s talk about it!

TL;DR The streaming bitrate for the Tesla in-car Spotify app appears to be variable, averaging around 128 to 160kbps. Disclaimer The testing and results I’m describing here are intended to provide some rough estimates for the streaming bitrate of the Tesla in-car Spotify app. They’re not...

    Uneven tyre wear

I'm at nearly 65k and on my second set of tyres. My front tyres always wear very evenly. No problems there at all, but the rear tyres are tricky. The factory alignment specs call for too much toe in on the rear, which causes the very inside edge to scrub badly. I've almost completely solved this...

Light bar upgrade in Aus: suggestions & where have you mounted your switch?

Actually I never ended up installing lights. It was turning into too much work for the amount of use I'd get. I was planning to hide an isolation switch in the footwell. There is a hole in the plastic cover under the steering column, and to the left. It could be used to mount a switch, while...

    Pocket Lights

In case anyone is interested in how I installed and activated door pocket lights in my 2020 3LR: I ordered lights from Tesla and wired them into the original wiring in the doors (the ones that were cut off from factory). They didn't work automatically and Tesla were unwilling to activate them...

Yes it came with the 13-pin outlet. I was planning to re-wire it to 7-pin, but ended up just getting an adapter instead.

I got a genuine Tesla trailer ECU and tow bar from Norway. Can confirm that it's plug and play. Works 100% no problem. The only thing it doesn't do is give you trailer mode. Trailer mode isn't that great anyway. Kind of a pain tbh.

Model 3 Performance sound system upgrade

It's absolutely possible and heaps of people have done it. It's no more difficult or complicated than a "normal" car, except there are a few minor differences. Search these forums and you'll find tons of info. I used Travis Llado's blog as a main guide. Link below. The main things you need to...

    New headlights retrofit

The ride height sensors are in EU spec cars, not US. Apparently a regulatory requirement in EU. They're suspension position sensors on the LHS front and rear suspension. They measure the ride height upon closing of the doors, then quickly adjust the height of the headlights (see here >> ). This...

"Almost all input is error. Car should do the right thing automatically."

I think this is where Elon gets it wrong. He can't seem to comprehend user preference. I fully expect they'll one day put the HVAC temperature control behind a menu. Personally, I want all the HVAC controls visible and one-touch all the time. Most people probably don't. I get that. I don't like...

Bike Rack - Roof vs Trunk vs Hitch

If anyone's interested; I use a hitch mounted rack on my 3LR. Just before xmas I did a trip with 6-7hrs of driving, 2 bikes on the back, and loaded to the brim with camping gear. Efficiency was down about 10-15% from normal. I think I've heard people losing 30+% on the roof....?

M3 Premium System EQ Bands and Sub Level Control

I was playing around similarly a bit over a week ago using Android AudioTool. I'm not 100% sure, but I had concluded that the EQ still affected sub. Your thoughts?
  15. corndog

Some of us want to hear our Subwoofer more than we hate road noise.

Only the mids are odd (3ohm), but there are a couple of good aftermarket swaps available (focal or JBL, which is actually a rebranded focal, but cheaper). The woofers and sub are pretty normal.

Spotify: Bluetooth vs Tesla built in app

I also want to add that, while it would be nice to know the actual bitrate, it doesn't really matter. What matters is how it sounds to you. Pick the source that sounds good for you.

Spotify: Bluetooth vs Tesla built in app

I would normally agree with you, except that over the last couple of years, there have been several SW updates that people have claimed made the sound better. Each time I would check, and each time it was extremely obvious to me that it was still terrible. I won't claim to be able to pick the...

Spotify: Bluetooth vs Tesla built in app

Our cars use Spotify Connect, which comes from Spotify at 320kbps (Spotify Connect Stream Rate). As of 2021.36 (or maybe earlier) it appears that Tesla are now allowing that full bitrate in the cars. This was first noticed by Green on twitter (). The difference between in-car Spotify and...

    Has Spotify bitrate increased??

Yep that's what I've done. I'm convinced that it's streaming at the full 320kbps now, which is better than bluetooth (256kbps). Tidal should only be better if you download tracks in your car.

    Has Spotify bitrate increased??

Go with what you think sounds better. It's possible that it's different by region, so you'll have to go by your own assessment.

First Australian-made Seat Covers for Model 3 - Neoprene

I wouldn't. For that I'd probably get some of those seat hoodie type things that kind of just drape over your seats. These seat covers have velcro straps that need to pass under the seats, which is probably a bit too much hassle for just a weekend trip.

The Stealth Hitch is now complied in Australia thanks to TOCA!

I've concluded that they just don't give a sh!t. Sales are already outstripping demand. We're a small market, so it's not worth the hassle for them. Also, no, what scomo said is not true at present, and was not true when he said it. This suggests to me that they've given up on the towbar idea...

Actually EU tow bars are already accepted under ADR. So there is literally no red tape. There is exactly zero extra regulatory approvals to do, as the car is already certified for towing in Australia.

Spotify: Bluetooth vs Tesla built in app

Has anyone else noticed that in-car Spotify sounds better than it used to? Green mentioned it on twitter a couple weeks ago, so I had a listen myself, and I agree. When comparing against my bluetooth stream, I find it very hard to tell the difference now. I think Tesla have finally uncorked the...

    Has Spotify bitrate increased??

I don't use immersive sound at all. I always have it off. I doubt it's anything on Spotifys end, since Spotify Connect already streams at 320kbps by default. The consensus is that Tesla have likely been throttling it to save data. Now it sounds like they've lifted the restriction.

I haven't seen anyone talking about this, apart from @greentheonly mentioning it on twitter recently. This morning I checked for myself, and I think he might be right! For context; I stop short of claiming to be an audiophile, but I am pretty picky when it comes to music listening. I always...

Any SR Owners Wired Up Map Pocket Lights?

Waking up this old thread! I'm planning to get door pocket lights working in my 2020 3LR. Model 3 headlights adjustable?

Over 20 months of ownership I've learned a lot about how the headlights in the Model 3 work. I've got Yokohama BluEarth-GT AE51 on my 19in wheels. I'm at 37,000km and expect to get around 45,000km total. My only complaint is that they don't have that thick rubber lip to protect rims, so I'm getting stone chips on the rims edges. They corner like the car's on rails, but straight line...

It's second hand from a wrecker. It was $800 for the tow bar and $500 for shipping. If you go this route, pricing will depend on the seller. I also found that many sellers won't ship outside of EU.

M3P - Who switched from a (true) sports car?

M3P - Who switched from a (true) sports car?

I lowered my 2020 3LR a year ago (Eibachs about 1inch). Light bar upgrade in Aus: suggestions & where have you mounted your switch?

I'm after something very discrete and don't need a lot of extra light. I just want the highbeams to shine wider for country driving, so I'm planning to add 2x 30W LEDs into the air intake. They're about 20mm diameter, so similar to a bike light, but more than 3x as bright. It will all be very...
