Came out to a broken screen

My 2013 center console burned out. I was just over 50k miles. 4700 bucks to repair. I fought tooth and nail to get the center console to salvage the parts, they wanted to keep it as they are rebuilding/reselling them. You get a used part but they don't tell you that up front.

Reality of upgrading battery packs (60kw -----> 100kw)

    1. I have a 2013 40kwh configuration. 2. I have 50k on the car 3. They wanted 12k to get the full 60 kwh range even after 50 miles 4. They offered me 22k for trade in. I think I could get over 35 on Ebay 5. They refused to let me gut a salvaged 85 and there is no one else in my area that can do...

    Monopoly on repairs

I have a contact with a model s with a lot of upper level damage, likely repairable at high cost Battery charges I looked into pulling the battery and computer to swap with my MS. This would upgrade me to a newer larger battery for a reasonable cost. Tesla informed me that it can't be done...

Death of a center screen / touch screen after warranty

As ingineer suggests it's likely that < 5 % of the entire unit is bad. They replace one module or flash drive and give the rest back to you.

Death of a center screen / touch screen after warranty

I was able to drive, but I was not able to charge the car when I got home. Seems like one might want to move the flash drive to an external location so that it could easily be swapped out. My problem happened when I was doing a soft reset using the two scroll buttons on the steering wheel. I...

Death of a center screen / touch screen after warranty

It's more than a screen but I agree. My top of the line 17 inch lap top cost less and I bought it new not refurbished. I thought I had more pics but this is what the back side looks like. I'll try to post some more over the weekend.

Death of a center screen / touch screen after warranty

Just as an FYI up to this point I have been very happy with Tesla service. My guess is this started when they were replacing screens under warranty which is fine, but they carried it over to those early adopters who have had the misfortune of loosing a center screen out of warranty. They need...

Death of a center screen / touch screen after warranty

51k miles and center screen went black after a reset. Tesla called and said the center screen was dead. Cost 4300 for screen around 4900 after labor and taxes. After some Tums I swallowed that, but the following issues were worse. 1. I requested that the broken screen to be returned to me...

    100' 110v extension cord - 10 gauge or 12?

Charging in the cold I think the guy said it was 100 to 150ft run. I'm guessing it's not a connector problem but rather he should have used a larger guage of wire. Initially this didn't seem to make sense as I thought a wiring problem would be an issue every time regardless of temp if the...

    100' 110v extension cord - 10 gauge or 12?

Charging 110 volt in the cold I'd say you're likely to have problems charging with an extension cord given the recent software updates from TESLA. I spent 1000 bucks to run electricity to a parking lot light at work to charge. It worked fine until the recent software update. Now it does not...

Ordered 60kw and having some doubts now.

My round trip is 70 to 100 and I have a 40kwh car With the money I saved buying the 40 I spent 1k to run a 110 volt to my parking space at work I could have spent 1800 for a 240 volt charge at work. My employer let's me charge for free since it costs them almost nothing (less than a cup of...

Cabin and Battery Warming before a long drive

You don't need a smart phone use a tablet or IPOD I use an IPOD but I suspect any tablet with wifi near by will work. I have wifi access at work and at home that's all I need.

Charging in High Temperature environments 13A vs 32A vs 70A: cost of air conditioning

Mark, is this energy usage from start of charge to end of charge or over a fixed time If I drive the car in 12 hours and it takes 12 hours to charge with the 110v 13amp and 3 hours with 240v set up are you calculating energy use over 12 hours for both or over 12 hours for the 110 volt plug and...

    40kwh Model S canceled

The point is the people who ordered the 40 already decided they didn't want to spend 10k for a 60. So why would they spend it now that it is offered again? If you offered them a discount now I suspect many would take the deal now which would inject Tesla with much needed cash.

    40kwh Model S canceled

That's my point, why wouldn't it sit well? 1. If they accept it the company that backs their car is stronger. Why would they be upset someone else got a better deal. I just don't get that mentality. It happens all the time. Why would they be upset with Tesla, it's not like Tesla set out to give...

    40kwh Model S canceled

40 kw buyers comments 1. Car dealers offer incentives all the time. I purchased a volt and then they lowered the price 4 months later. That's life, you can buy a lot of stuff cheaper if you wait. 2. 40kwh buyers are getting more than they are losing but it's not a total win. My insurance will...

Tesla to be profitable in Q1, both GAAP and non-GAAP

The news tomorrow will definitely be Gen III They cancelled the 40kwH Model S, and instead are giving 4% of reservation holders a 60kwh pack. Initially I thought that the 40kwH performance was too close to the 60 (ie the 60 had better range and efficiency than predicted based on the 85kwh) and...

    Winter Driving Experiences

Weight This depends on if you are on a steep incline or on a flat road. On a flat road the added weight puts downward pressure on the wheel and increases traction. On a steep incline the added weight does this to some extent but it also increases the force needed to get the car moving...

    Winter Driving Experiences

I think this has to be a tire issue. I've lived in areas with a lot of snow since age 16. Tires ,weight distribution, clearance, and driving technique are what count. I seriously doubt they "mucked" up traction control.

    Poor Man's Model S

Get a VOLT 1. My rec - Get a VOLT or a civic hybrid or a prius or a fusion or cmax or cruze etc. Then you have only one car. You don't need 2 cars. Debt is a cancer that can consume all that you have. The Tesla is a sweet car but you'd be much better off buying a cheaper car now that can do...

Warranty/Servicing - official Tesla responses (incl GeorgeB)

The issue is cost 600/12,500 miles = about 1000 bucks a year for me. The only warranty I'm worried about is battery, PEM, charger, computer - I can service the rest. Now given this is a new car what sort of service do these elements need. Well according to the VOLT and Leaf maintenance...
