    Model 3 Servicing

It was indeed £190, and they did rotate the tyres. They also left a couple of dirty marks on my pristine white upholstery, which I’ve removed :( This won’t of course affect those of you with black pleather ;)

    Alloy repair cost

That’s about the going rate where I live. You’re bound to do it again. And again… I paid for my first repair, then took out three years of alloy insurance afterwards. I think I’ve had a further six repairs in the last two years, so I’ve definitely had my money’s worth. Have you ever kerbed...

What a difference a day makes! We’re in Skye at the moment. This was the view out of the window of our holiday cottage yesterday: And this is today. Somebody has pinched the loch!

    Disneyland Paris

I’ve had GB side stickers on my stick-on plates for a good while, but with the new U.K. sticker rules, and the green EV plates change, I’ve bought these new stickers. I’ve not applied them yet, but once I do I’ll post a photo. UK Green EV / Electric - Car Number Plate Sticker UNION JACK NO EU...

    Two-year Service

Interesting. The invoice calls the item “2 year service at customer request”. The chap who took the loan car key back said ”There are no service intervals, but we recommend you bring it in every two years or every 20k miles, whichever comes first.” I think that’s the first time I’ve heard 20k...

    Two-year Service

That’s a very good question. I obviously didn’t select “Other” then. I do remember writing in the comments that I wanted a two-year service. I imagine I just followed my nose and happened to get the right outcome!

The Towel May Be Going In

Sorry to hear you’ve had enough. I feel your pain. I've been lucky - now two years old and no major problems. I too had paint defects on delivery but they were rectified to my satisfaction. At my age I temper my expectations. While Tesla can be crap, I still think they are way ahead of other...

    Two-year Service

Perhaps check with your lease company to be safe. There is no mandatory service schedule for Tesla cars, but they ”recommend” that they are inspected every two years. It also means the car gets any other precautionary mods done, like the wiring harness, if they haven’t been done previously.

    Two-year Service

Yes, and yes. The app and communication side of things was all perfect. Must be a first for Tesla.

    Two-year Service

I’d not noticed any problems, and didn’t mention it. I presumed it was an automatic service item a bit like the waterproofing of the frunk wiring harness. I’d not heard of the problem, too many threads to keep up with!

    Two-year Service

I suspect it is worth it, although it is something they do routinely in the States. Many tyre shops there offer free rotation once you’ve bought the tyres. As for the 4WD, I suspect it depends on your driving style. About a month ago I had the two rears replaced because they were ready, but the...

    Two-year Service

Invoiced as follows: Correction Item: Reseal area around both front upper control arm ball joints with urethane. Two-year Service: Clean and lubricate brake calipers. Check brake fluid. Replace cabin air filter. Rotate tyres. Check and adjust tyre pressures. Top-up washer fluid. ;)...

    Two-year Service

Yesterday my Model 3 LR went into the (relatively) new Nottingham Service Centre for its first two-yearly service, at 24500 miles. Because I wanted a courtesy car my booking was made about four weeks ago. My courtesy car was a 19 plate Model 3 Performance in black, with FSD enabled. This was...

Model Y at Fully Charged Outside

I watched the RSymons walkaround of the MY on YouTube, and it does look a nice car. When he got to the wheels my wife said “The rims still stick out further than the tyres, so plenty more wheel scrapes there…” :) I went to Fully Charged Live in 2019, and from the few videos I’ve watched from...

Wiki UK and Ireland Supercharger Site News

If the Derby site is in the Derbian underground car park, it’s quite expensive. Currently £3.10 for up to two hours minimum. Also the car park isn’t normally open 24 hours. I wonder if they will allow special access to the SCs out of hours?

Chargeplace Scotland - App or RFID card?

I had the email from SWARCO to sign up to the new CPS system on 23 July. As part of the sign-up process I had to set up a Direct Debit. The new RFID card arrived in the post about 10 days later. I’ve yet to try it out, but we should be in Skye again in September, Nicola permitting. Unfortunately...

    Getting tyres changed

Yes, I looked at the Quadracs after reading about them on here. My tyre man said they are a good tyre (and actually slightly cheaper than the Michelins) but he said that they find Vredstein tyres can sometimes be hard to get hold of in a hurry - in the case of a bad puncture, for example. That...

    Getting tyres changed

I’ve just had two new tyres on the rear, just short of 24k miles. I ended up going with the stock Michelin acoustics, and had them fitted at my local tyre place I’ve been using for years, ETS (Eden Tyre Services). £369 for the two, fitted, balanced, new valves and disposal.

    Fully Charged Show

I’ve watched the FC stuff for years, and found it very useful in the early years in learning about EVs before I had one myself. Robert can be a bit Marmite, and does witter on sometimes. I must say I prefer the better FC production values than, say, Bjorn’s output. That said, I’ve probably not...

    Stick on vinyl number plates

Well done for having the patience to read 14 pages ;) I’ve got both front and rear stick-on plates, and they still look perfect after 20 months. As long as the vinyl is thick enough, the hollow under the rear plate can’t be seen. If I were doing it again I’d fill the hollow with a slab of white...

Model 3 (not so!) Long range

Other logging services are available - see TeslaMate. On the charging/not charging issue, at Superchargers I inevitably find the car is ready before I am. I’ll still be sipping my latte and the car is charged. And then there’s the issue of bladder capacity...

Model 3 (not so!) Long range

This time of year in my LR I can easily get 250 at motorway speeds, and nearer 290-300 with mixed driving. The wonderful acceleration is very tempting, but will batter range.

    Chargeplace Scotland CYC

I’m getting the 403 error when I try to sign in to my CYC account to retrieve the card number I need to transfer my details to the new folk. We charged at Jedburgh today. Again, the card no longer works (not sure what I paid my £20 for…) but the app was ‘appy. Got a steady 43kW charge rate.

    Chargeplace Scotland CYC

No email communication here either. That may explain why my CPS card was “invalid” at the Melrose charger yesterday…

    Chargeplace Scotland 50kw CCS??

We’re up in the Borders at the moment (a holiday that we moved from last summer) and while I’d agree that some of the CPS rapids are a bit temperamental, they certainly work fine with my LR Model 3 from 2019. Yesterday we tried the Kelso charger, but it was locked out with an error. I gave up...

Service Centre - Is This Normal?

My own experiences of Tesla service have been great, but I've read enough horror stories on here to know there has to be a major problem. It certainly doesn’t seem to be a lack of staff, but parts supply really seems to be the issue. Elon said ages ago that they don’t want to make a profit out...

    ICE to EV doubts

Now on my third EV. I’d never go back to ICE. Don’t worry about the problems, hopefully you’ll get a good one. Mine has been brilliant over 21 months and 22k miles. It’s a pleasure to drive.

Elon Musk UK visit - potential factory?

My guess is that Elon’s finally realised that we were the home of the Sinclair C5, and on the back of the huge success of that model, he feels the need for a U.K. factory… I imagine he’ll be visiting Hoover in Merthyr Tydfil very soon.

    Boombox is here.

I asked Manchester SC about retrofitting the PWS speaker last week, and the reply was that it wasn’t available in the U.K. yet, but it might be in the future. No mention of free.

    Screenwash

For several years now I’ve always used Aldi’s ready to use screen wash, the blue stuff at £1.99 for 5 litres. No problems, and always good results. A few years ago I did try some much more expensive stuff from Autoglym, but I didn’t really find any difference. In my experience it’s more...

Mr Miserable gets exposed by Marine Traffic

As usual, I’m late to the party… Even though I’ve had my Model 3 for 20 months I still find myself checking @Mr Miserable ’s shipping threads. But then I’m fairly sad. Perhaps not as sad as @Mr Miserable though ;) Thanks, and All Hail @Mr Miserable

Considering Tesla Model 3 as first Electric car

I’m on my third EV. First was a 24kWh Leaf, but we also kept an ICE vehicle for longer journeys. Then we had a 64kWh Kona electric for a year, then the LR AWD Model 3. I’d never go back to ICE now. We are retired, so weekly miles doesn’t come into it for us. We have done some long trips for...

Three years with LV here. Last year’s renewal from LV beat anything I could get on comparison sites and easily beat DL for me. As always, depending on your age and driving history, location and car YMMV!

Continuous indicator does not engage unless excessive force

This could be normal behaviour, it depends how much force it needs. There is a definite indent to pass to engage the continuous indicator. A quick flick up or down will just do three “blinks”. You need to push past the indent to engage continuous.

Poll - 14 day EAP trial!

I’ve now had chance to try the new features on a couple more trips. Continued use of the Auto Lane Change has been generally very positive. The only time is has spooked me was when the car was pulling back into lane two from lane three after overtaking, and there was a lorry ahead in lane one...

Wiki UK and Ireland Supercharger Site News

Pre-conditioning does make a difference, but to get the highest charge rates you need to start with a low starting percentage. I started at 15% and maxed out at 201kW. The charge rate gradually drops as the battery fills up. IIRC we were still getting ~60kW as it approached 80%. To charge from...
