    Tesla Model 3 in Australia

Hi M3 owners, I've had my M3 LR for over 4 years now and a few weeks ago removed the frunk bin. I found corrosion on what I believe is a steering component. I asked the question in the worldwide M3 thread here. (So if interested you can view the few replies.) I scheduled a service centre...

    Mechanical Faults and fixes

Some feedback on this issue. I raised a service with Tesla service and sent a photo of the corrosion as well. They got back to me to say this is surface rust and further, this part is not a steering component. Service call cancelled. I'm still not sure, so I plan to visit the service centre...

    Mechanical Faults and fixes

Brilliant. Thanks for finding this. It certainly gives me the language and understanding to communicate more effectively with Tesla service. As I note it’s an issue in the MS/X forum, this is a problem that most owners won’t see creeping up. As yet there seems no reference in a Model 3 forum to...

    Mechanical Faults and fixes

Recently took out the frunk bin and noticed rust on what appears to be part of the steering assembly. Note this is a RHD M3 with 62500 km and just out of warranty. Can anyone tell me what these parts are called so I can get appropriate service?

Model 3 Performance Replacement Tyres - Cost and Durability

Yep, 18 inch. I agree, but that’s why I found an alternative! I did get a cheaper quote but not in stock. I’ll report back in this thread after a significant number of km with a progress report.

Model 3 Performance Replacement Tyres - Cost and Durability

I changed my tyres yesterday at 62500km. I’ve been really happy with the Michelin PS4 my M3 LR came with but at $550 per tyre and limited availability decided to go with the $240 Kumho PS71EV tyres. I’ll be paying a lot of attention to how they compare with the PS4. (Now need to play around the...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

yes, although that doesn’t affect drivability for me. I have noticed since 24.2.2 that locking when leaving is uncertain. But another “security” update downloading now - 24.2.3. Hopefully to fix that.

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

Cautionary tale: I thought I’d would be home earlier so this morning I delayed an update till 1 pm. 15 min later after 1 I’m now sitting in my car in shopping centre car park waiting for update 2024.2.2.1 to complete. Very slow. Edit 1: Didn’t see a notification as I was heading back to car...

Insurance is getting out of hand

I recently started my 5th year of ownership and NRMA reduced my max sum insured to an unacceptable amount (no claims) and increased my premium by 17%. For me Apia had a much higher sum insured ($78k) with a premium lower than the others.

    AGL’s “Night Saver Energy Plan”

Thanks for another great analysis @Vostok. I was never tempted due to my use case as I have peak usage I can’t shift, let alone the ethical considerations. But you’ve prompted me to resurrect my spreadsheet to check out the new landscape.

Hardware 3 vs Hardware 4 (Video)

@louco73 you’ve done about 1k more than me. But unlike you I’m more interested in the way the car performs. I recently had to drive manually on a motorway as the wipers were going crazy and I was reminded how much AP relieves a lot of the cognitive load. I want it to work better.

Hardware 3 vs Hardware 4 (Video)

Yep. Quite a difference. I wonder if they’ll make an upgrade to hardware 4 for my 2020 M3.

    Model 3 Tyres

Thanks for that link. Now priced at $2,790. That's wheels, tyres and tyre pressure sensors, but not covers. Now that's interesting. I've just received a quote for just the tyres, installation, disposal of old tyres. No mention of balance or alignment. PS4's quoted at nearly $2300 inc GST...

Australian Tesla Ceramic Coating, PPF, Tinting and other Accessories

It’s likely that the chemicals in products like this present a not insignificant hazard to either human and/or environmental health. Read their safety data statements. Eg, http://www.newpages2u.com/attachments/16068185613ba93f202d002a28bf12a2a5c68995b3.pdf

    Multi stop navigation in app

I suspect the OP refers to the phone app- I’ve been hoping for that functionality @DonSi. For about a year now my iPhone’s google maps app does not successfully send a multi stop route to the car. I suspect that’s the car’s fault. It just means I’ve got to futz around with the screen when I...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

I was frustrated with this yesterday. I found for many months prior to 2023.12.1.1 it was working well. Yesterday it missed heaps. So went back to doing a bug report. Unfortunately British English needed several repetitions. Another bug, or my speech is not as refined as I thought. 😉

Mine installed 2023.12.1.1 yesterday and today I drove it with a loaded trailer for a total of 200 km mostly on motorway. Big announcement on EVs & emissions standards coming from federal government this Wednesday

Thanks for that thoughtful analysis @Vostok, something I’ve come to appreciate you for. The thing is, like some here, I'm pretty frustrated after decades of warnings and little govt action. I certainly latched on to this when this thread first appeared, as overblown as it was, and then felt...

Big announcement on EVs & emissions standards coming from federal government this Wednesday

Sorry for my cynicism @Vostok but climate and economic experts tell us we should act now. I’m afraid “Liberal-light” don’t get it either. There has already been too much talk and too little action. I hope to be proved wrong.

Big announcement on EVs & emissions standards coming from federal government this Wednesday

Yeah, “pretty radical”! Fuel efficiency standards are obviously needed to accelerate the reduction of Australian carbon emissions, but also have immediate impact on our health by reducing particulate pollution. Anyway, Nick O’Malley has a mildly scathing essay in the SMH. He says “Australian...

    Tesla Software updates - Australia

I’m still on 2023.2.12 and this issue is happening on my 2020 3L. I feel it’s worse in recent months at night or dusk, but is it due to recent software update or a bug caused by particular circumstances?

Interesting info from Bob Jane shop today. I went in for small puncture repair and they observed I’ll need new tyres in next couple of months. Any point is buying a type 2 cable?

Yes, I've had both in the past, but I agree, lately it's downloaded without prompting. Anyway, .8 tells me that it's offering the tyre reset thingy and that's all. I'm guessing a problem may have been apparent with .7 so they've sent a fix pretty promptly.

    installing EV charger apartment complex

I guess you must need the ability to charge the car fast. I thought I needed that at home and installed a 3 phase Zappi. I’ve needed a fast charge at home just once in 2.5 years. And then I could have gone to a nearby shopping centre for half an hour. Could you live with 10 or 15 amp charging...

Ideal or Cost Effective Home Charging

I also have a Zappi and I’m happy with it in general. Myenergi is continuing to support it with updates and was responsive when I needed troubleshooting. Also the community forum is useful (bit like this one). While @paulp is not 100% wrong, my experience seems better. I don’t have a battery.
