    Supercharger - Taupo NZ

I hadn't seen this thread before, so it's cool to see the construction history of it, especially given the current events. Unfortunately, I do wonder what future this site has if the damage is enough. Rainbow Point is just down the road now and is a 9 stall V3 site so investing a whole lot into...

    Supercharger - Dunedin & Nelson

Two new Supercharger sites, Dunedin and Nelson have popped up in the South Island today with a target of Q3 2024. Interestingly, at the time of this post, Dunedin is still an option to vote for on the "Vote for a Supercharger" poll. Dunedin: Nelson:

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

Ok, so I guess it's the latter of the two options. Since I assume nearly everyone else understands how RUC in petrol vehicles is tied to emissions, I'm going to move on from your deficiencies... No one here is arguing that EVs shouldn't pay RUC. However, the government should not be...

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

So you're just going to ignore the math above? The math that shows you how a lower emission petrol vehicle contributes less to the cost of road maintenance? How that goes against that everyone should pay their fair share? Either you're playing dumb for some stupid agenda or you really just...

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

How do you not understand how it does though?? Take a RAV4 Hybrid with a fuel efficiency of 5.3L/100km, or .053L/km. The RUC component of petrol is $0.70, so if you apply that to the efficiency, it's 3.7c/km Take a Ford Ranger Raptor (petrol version) with a fuel efficiency of 11.5L/100km or...

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

JFC it's not a hard concept to grasp lol. Because petrol vehicles pay RUC via the tax component of petrol, the amount they pay is determined by the fuel efficiency of their vehicle. The less fuel they use, the less tax they pay which means less RUC they pay per km. The amount of RUC a petrol...

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

Yeah, they do. It's the fuel excise tax component of fuel and it's the equivalent of RUC for petrol vehicles Once again, as per the above, the RUC that is paid by petrol vehicles is tied to emissions. So I'll ask again, why do you think emission generating vehicles should pay less towards the...

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

Since we're talking about slow people, you seem to have missed that currently RUC is tied to emissions for petrol vehicles. They are rewarded with lower RUC costs if their vehicle has better fuel efficiency/lower emissions. However, they are still generating emissions Please answer why you...

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

RUCs at $76/1000km puts city cars like the Leaf in the same weight category as a Ford Ranger than has a GVM 1.5 tonne heavier. At the same time, a comparable Hybrid vehicle is going to be paying half the rate as that Leaf. Based on the current governments plans for vehicle taxes over the next 3...

    Supercharger - Kaikōura

Construction has started at Kaikoura and is indeed at the new pin location above. (This pic isn't mine)

    Supercharger - Christchurch Hornby, NZ

Fun tidbit about the Hornby install...they accidentally supplied a pedestal with a NACS connector rather than CCS2. It's now bagged off while it's replaced with the correct CCS2 connector

    Tesla Wellington - WOF?

Going to Tesla would be the recommended option, at least for the first WoF. They will also do any recalls at the same time and any other warranty related work before it expires next year.

    Supercharger - Kaikōura

The Kaikoura pin has been updated on the "Find Us" map to be where the chargers are actually going - the carpark of Bernie's Diner

    Cybertruck RHD(Japan) confirmed

This doesn't confirm RHD. Tesla sells the Model S & X in Japan in LHD only - it's possible if they sell the Cybertruck there then it will be the same. LHD vehicles cannot be sold in NZ (unless there are very specific conditions met, which the Cybertruck doesn't meet)

Third party chargers are now in the navigation as of the 2024.2.x update!

It doesn't seem to be including all third party chargers but it's definitely a good start! Great for those of us in the South Island who can't rely on the navigating to a Supercharger trick to get the car to precondition for other chargers.

It seems New Zealand and Australia will have the least restrictive Autopilot in the world

Europe has had restrictions on Autopilot for some time now, with limits on how much it can turn and for EAP/FSD it has longer time outs between changing lanes and distance limits on summon. Thankfully, we've never had these restrictions here. Now the US is getting restrictions with more...

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

I quite liked the way NZ did it, compared to what many other countries have done. Rather than making tax payers pay for the subsidy, which is unfair to those who don't drive, those who decide to buy high emission vehicles were the ones who funded the subsidy. So those who cause the damage, pay...

    Supercharger - Blenheim

tbh, I'm surprised that this site ended up being a V3 stall site considering they've started going with V4 stalls in Australia now. Maybe the Hornby site will be V4.

    Quality Issues WOF

When mine had a lot of its suspension done last year (both front and rear) at its first WoF it wasn't really showing any signs that there were issues. All tyres had even wear both between them all and across each tyre.
  24. M

    Quality Issues WOF

Thankfully, no issues with mine this year. The Christchurch SC had the WoF done for me in under an hour too
  25. M

    Supercharger - Christchurch Hornby, NZ

Haven't seen anything yet. With the Q1 2024 date I'm guessing not much will happen until late Jan/Feb based on other sites that have been done recently.

Tesla Model 3 potential export to NZ from UK

NZ has a lot of imported Model S/X from Japan but also the UK. Tesla has helped those owners and changed over their SIM cards and changed the map locations for them so you should be fine there. You will give up any warranty that you might have remaining though - Tesla does not transfer...

    Model 3 AWD Tyre Life

The Hankook's definitely seem quieter when on everything except rough chipseal. I don't think any tyre can do much to improve that experience haha

    Model 3 AWD Tyre Life

I've now done two sets on my 2019 Long Range Performance. The first set was done at 47k, the second set was done just last week at 45k. On both occasions, all four tyres had even wear, despite not bothering to do any rotations on the second set. The first set I replaced with OEM Pilot Sport 4...

    Quality Issues WOF

Mine is about to go in for its second WoF after having a lot of suspension work done on its first WoF last year. I'm hoping it's smoother sailing this time around. If the parts that were replaced last year are now having issues again this year then that should be covered under the warranty for...

    Charger vandalism

At least that front cover is only decorative. The main EVSE portion looks ok.

Electric vehicle rebate and 'ute tax' killed off in December 2023

Which is what the government has already been doing for the last decade or so lol. Excluding Tesla Superchargers, most EV chargers in NZ exist because they received a subsidy from the government.

CCS Type 2 local recommendations for BYO Cable?

Some people like to spend $300 on a plethora of accessories like wheel covers, HUDs, etc etc...I'm quite happy with putting money towards actual QoL improvements. I usually use my Type 2 cable at least once a week.
  35. M

    Supercharger - Rainbow Point

I wonder if this new Taupo site means that Turangi has fallen through. Both wouldn't be a bad thing, though... I also wonder if it means they'll decommission the old V2 site
  36. M

CCS Type 2 local recommendations for BYO Cable?

It doesn't just open the flap. Having it on the cable means that it can also send the control signal to stop charging and to unlock the charger port. The remote on Aliexpress can't do that, it can only open the flap.
  37. M

CCS Type 2 local recommendations for BYO Cable?

Hadn't thought about single phase chargers. There's a 32A version too
  38. M

CCS Type 2 local recommendations for BYO Cable?

If I didn't already have a Type 2 cable that I got from Tesla, I'd skip the local options and order this one. Unlike other cables, it has a built in Tesla button so you can open the charge port with and stop charging when you're done - just like a Tesla Wall Connector or UMC cable.

    Supercharger - Blenheim

Finally, a new site for the South Island! This is in addition to Kaikoura, so once it's completed, all Tesla's should be able to get from Dunedin to Cape Reinga using just Superchargers. This Blenheim site will also have 3 ChargeNet Hyperchargers which can charge 6 EVs, so it's a bit of a...

Yeah I was actually talking with my partner recently that it definitely feels fixed to me. It's been a while since it picked my partners profile when he was standing at the passengers door...I guess they remembered that RHD is a thing!

Tesla is advertising for FSD testers in New Zealand!

Based on these two job adverts in Auckland and Christchurch, it looks like Tesla is looking to start validating FSD for New Zealand (and maybe RHD in general) https://www.tesla.com/en_NZ/careers/search/job/vehicle-operator-test-driver--202582...

The worst of all worlds - Police to use BMW i4s

They don't get purpose built cars...they buy cars at wholesale and then have them fitted out post-build. There were probably just as many Holden Commodore Taxis as there were Commodore Police vehicles lol. There are also many police forces internationally that have started putting Model 3 and Y...

The worst of all worlds - Police to use BMW i4s

I'm assuming they went with the BMW option because a few Aussie states use BMW highway patrol vehicles, which makes it easier to find someone close to home that is familiar with fitting out a BMW for police use. I'm wondering if this trial will find that the 590km of range in the i4 well...
