FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Continuing my thoughts above, since I waited too long to edit the above post... IMO, I think they're going to have to come up with two different ways to teach the machine: 1. Learning by example, which would be the thoroughly discussed "train it with a bunch of clips of people doing it right"...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Exactly. It'll be interesting to hear what they come up with to handle these events and situations. And there's so many of them, too; I don't think this is a matter of "chasing the long tail of nines," but rather how to handle common situations that just don't lend themselves to "do it by...

Phantom Braking getting worse - any ideas on how to stop it?

Since Tesla has removed the "Report" button, every time I get a phantom braking/phantom slowing event, I disconnect the system. When I get the "tell us what went wrong" prompt, I just narrate it with "Phantom braking." I'm hoping that if we can get Tesla enough clips of this happening, they can...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Hmmmm. Maybe I'm wrong on this, but I thought the "no teaching" thing was limited to rules, ie, the car will stop at red lights because it has seen thousands of clips of other cars doing so. But in order to do this, the car will still need to be able to identify objects; it will need to be able...

5 years worth of subscription = buying it

Two years later, and FSD is still doing this. OP, your logic is flawless. Wait for FSD until the juice is worth the squeeze.

2023 Model Y Cameras Black, No Autopilot Functionality, HV Contactor Randomly Clunks On and Off

Yes, that is what you're hearing. When your car detects a "key" (most likely your cell phone) within range, it will close the high voltage contactors and start booting up. As to you camera problem, I wish I could be of help, but the only thing I can think of would be to turn on Sentry Mode...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Aye, it was a long read, but well worth the time. Sorry... the family is on a Pirates of the Caribbean movie marathon. Only three nights remaining. Seriously, though, that was a very well done post.

how can we encourage tesla to give better audible alert of AP status: full, distance keeping, or off

Thank You!!!! That worked! What an odd little bug. I've literally never touched the Joe Mode selector. Really strange that an update would decide that off was on. I hope the guy that wrote that code wasn't responsible for other on/off logic in the car.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I highly doubt that Elon meant that as an all-encompassing, this-is-ALL-that-humans-are kind of statement. I read it in the context of how humans work as it would be applied to driving a car, and ONLY driving a car. Yes, even then it overly simplifies it, as we are also detecting G forces and a...

how can we encourage tesla to give better audible alert of AP status: full, distance keeping, or off

That point is what people need to keep in the front of their minds when considering this issue. I see too many “Well, that could NEVER happen to me” responses when we need to be thinking about everyone driving these vehicles. We need to be lowering the chance that it could happen to anyone. And...

how can we encourage tesla to give better audible alert of AP status: full, distance keeping, or off

Fellow major airline pilot here, and I just wanted to chime in to say that I completely agree with everything MarcMerlin has said. One addition: The last update has made all of the aural beeps and boops (including turn signal) so quiet that not even my teenage kids can hear them. And no, I do...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Every time Elon says “Two weeks,” you need to picture the movie in which the young couple is renovating their house, and every subcontractor (I forget the name of the movie right now. Someone help me out) says “two weeks.” Or you can imagine the scene from Total Recall where Arnold’s head...

    FSD Beta v11.x

From what I've understood so far, the foundation of v12 is a "no rules" approach; all of the hard coded rules are now gone. Instead, the system will be trained from the ground up by watching training clips of drivers "doing it right," with very few (if any) hard coded rules. The system will...

  16. Phlier

    FSD Beta v11.x

Exactly. And one reason why hard-coded rules will fail. A lot. I'm not saying that they'll actually be successful with their "no rules" approach, but it does at least appear that it's the correct rabbit to chase at this point; there's just no way they'll be able to successfully pull off all of...

    FSD Beta v11.x

Same. And 11.4.7 is SO good at it, it's predictively slowing down for traffic that won't be on the road until tomorrow. Yes, our old friends "Phantom Braking" and "Phantom Slowing" have come back for a special guest appearance in the latest release.

    FSD Beta v11.x

I’ve gotten so tired of writing big performance reviews of the latest beta release that I just can’t do another one. So I’m going to summarize… 11.4.7 is so much of a regression in so many areas, the only word to describe it is ”junk.” The last positive thought I can muster is that since v12...

5/32 tread depth on 12850 miles

I’ve been here a bit as well. 😉 The tire wear on my Tesla has exactly matched the tire wear on every vehicle I’ve owned in my 56 years; the front tires wear out faster. This is on the Tesla in my signature that I’ve owned since August of 2019. This appears to be a difference of experiences and...

Does location matter for FSD performance?

Unfortunately, route planning is only part of lane selection choice. If you are following a car that is going slower than you, the car will move to an open lane to pass it. It will then move over to the right lane if it can. At some point, more weight is given to route lane selection over...

    FSD Beta v11.x

I’ve posted that same thing so many times on so many forums. I finally gave up. Tesla isn’t running a software industry standard beta test in any way, shape, or form. And they just don’t care. Many people will argue that since FSDb is a special snowflake that standard beta software practices...

5/32 tread depth on 12850 miles

If this is the first time you’ve rotated the tires, it is highly likely your front tires have much more wear than the rears. The manual says to rotate tires every 6,000 miles. This schedule gives you the greatest chance of all four tires hitting their wear limits at the same time. Not...

Does location matter for FSD performance?

Adding another data point to “yes, it matters.” I live in St. George, Utah. FSDb performs poorly here. Yet if I drive down to Las Vegas, it performs much, much better.

    FSD Beta v11.x

My car does the same thing with Diet Coke cans and protein bars. Understandable, at least for the protein bars, as they do look a bit like an unfolded flip phone… from the ‘90’s. That is, if you squint really hard and hold your breath for two minutes. No idea about the Diet Coke, though. Maybe...

    FSD Beta v11.x

There are a ton of stop signs where I’m at. There are also a lot of roads that lack any paint markings at all… no edge paint and no lane paint. Since FSDb performs poorly under each condition separately, and horribly when those conditions are combined, I find myself using it far less than in...

    Roundabouts !

I don’t even bother with FSDb on traffic circles anymore. It gets clicked off before the car starts to slow for the entrance. Then I re-engage it after the… next update.

    FSD Beta 10.69

When I enabled one pedal driving, I thought "I'm not gonna have to replace my brake pads the entire time I own this car," and I typically own my cars for ten years. Then I became an FSDb tester. Anyone know some good brake pads for a 2019 P3D-? Asking for a friend.

    FSD Beta 10.69

I'm glad it's doing better for your roundabouts. Here, it's still a mess. But to be fair, it isn't really the car's fault; our traffic circles are so screwed up that human drivers can't negotiate them correctly. In fact, there's no real way *TO* negotiate them correctly. The road department is...
