FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I'm not so sure that's fair, at least not when characterized as "far" worse. A bit worse, sure. But if there were a slew of fatalities or something, that would be tough to keep under wraps, especially with the vitriol of MSM and shorts regarding events like that...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

OTOH, we know he's timeline-challenged, but then delivers eventually...which in the case of L4/5, if Telsa finally pulls it off, will have been worth the wait. "The difficult we do immediately, the impossible takes a little longer." Yeah, that's my story and I'm sticking to it...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Good vision. If you know about municipal power companies and solar, I've got that combination and it's 16kWp of battery nightmare. The only saving grace is I'm being good to the planet, if not all that much to my bank balance. We'll never break even, and I'll probably have to replace the...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I'm as afraid of stop-and-go traffic when riding as I am of taking FSD through my funky intersection down the street. The former I avoid like the plague, the latter I bite the bullet and try every once in a while.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

As a rider, this is good info to read about. But I never split lanes (when cars are moving at least). I think it's illegal in MA but I'm not doing it with an RT anyway.

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Good news, now we know 12.4 will at least be interesting. I thought the idea of using idle Teslas' processors to help do training is beautiful. Tesla better pay me for the energy drain, though! lol

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I think the original idea of Dojo was a totally custom designed chipset, but now they've pivoted to using off-the-shelf hardware instead. Why not, it probably saves them money. Whatever "Dojo" becomes, it's just not the same Dojo, but that doesn't mean it won't do the same work or better...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I'm not quite getting your drift, FSD "will have to deal with it" regardless! (If it wants to keep Tesla in business...)
  9. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Why fortunately? FSD cannot deal with it.
  10. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

In the FB beta testers group, some people keep posting how great FSD is, no interventions in approximately forever, yada yada. So that makes me wonder if the intersection down the street (which I traverse approximately 50% of the times I leave the house) would qualify as an edge case? It sure...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I actually don't need a patch on things like ferries (which are moving all the time) and cruise ships (much slower oscillations that don't affect me.) When diving, though, I have used them for 5 days in a row with no side-effects aside from the dry mouth. YMMV, and apparently does, of course!
  12. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

That doesn't engage your vestibular system. LOL. Again, Scope patches for the win.
  13. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

The Scope patches' only side-effect I ever experienced is dry-mouth. Which is annoying when scuba diving, but sure beats the alternative. When the dive boat reached the dive site, I'd have them put me in the water first, and I'd get going on down, and then I'd wait 10 ft below the boat after the...
  14. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Agreed, but I think the issue is that it isn't approved to take over, ever. Even if it would clearly be the only action that made sense.
  15. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

In one respect I agree it's possible for some of us who are motion-sick-prone to train ourselves out of it to some degree. I did it while riding buses as a member of the L.A. City Youth Band. We were bussed to parades all over SoCal, and I really wanted to be able to read a book in the bus. I...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Did you catch my post from a few days ago? Hard braked from 45 to about 3 on the deserted road heading to my house. No other cars. Thank God it isn't doing it to me on the highway, and this was just one time, but PB is what it was.
  17. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Cool, I almost added before that this issue of the brain is probably more likely in folks (like me) already neuro-divergent (ASD Level 1). That seems to be the consensus that I've encountered... lucky us. Oh, and if you're in a bus, especially toward the rear, don't try to look forward, find a...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

For me, Minimal Lane Changes turned on actually works. I curse myself when I forget to turn it on. One out of 4 or 5 initial elective lane changes it makes actually come close to the way I drive. Meaning 4 out of 5 times I forget to turn on the switch, I regret it. I've only ever been able to...
  19. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Yes, focusing out of the vehicle at some distant stationary object works, and as soon as possible after you realize you're not feeling so hot. I spent my childhood not doing well in cars and my parents just gave me dramamine. Funny thing is when I first tracked a car, I didn't understand why I...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

The important question to me is, does it EVER hard brake unnecessarily with someone dangerously close behind? At least since V12? Like, has anyone here had that happen?
  21. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

If I'm following a Tesla and it remains dead center in the lane, except for perfectly smooth miniscule shifts away from large vehicles, I take that as FSD in action.
  22. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Having observed all the back-and-forth here about what L2/L3/L4 and the word "drive" mean, I thought I had it pretty straight. Yet I'm finding myself now involved in a little FB debate over whether L3 requires the human to be "engaged" while it's doing the driving. My conclusion from the SAE...
  23. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

This is why I always turn on Minimal Lane Changes. And why I'm pi$$ed at having to do it manually EVERY STINKIN' DRIVE.
  24. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

But those are all situations you can anticipate and monitor and be reassured FSD knows what it's doing. You can see it coming. Phantom braking is a different story, it just happens out of the blue. I have had no reason to trust it wouldn't happen with a car close enough behind me to either...
  25. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

But I couldn't trust it not to do that when there was someone behind me. And I wasn't about to put myself into that situation to find out if I can trust it.
  26. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

As someone who has published my own software and had total control of revision numbering, I never got past version 1. The first number should represent distinct differences (typically new layers built on top of the foundational parts) in look & feel, and of course functionality. Anything short...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Well, that was disappointing. Letting Nameless drive me home from the first-ever performance of Beck-Ola, a newly-formed Jeff Beck "not just a tribute" band (which killed it BTW), I was on a 4-mile strech of deserted back road near my house, on a straightaway with no intersections, cars, or just...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Well, think about it. The more efficient and cooperative autonomous cars become, the more dangerous (to everyone) it becomes to have human drivers in the mix. The shift will be gradual, but the end point I see is humans driving on tracks, pretty much, or at least closed courses of some kind. Out...

  33. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

With Nameless doing the driving on the back roads returning from the eclipse, the road had a gravelly shoulder you would not want to be jogging on so the jogger coming towards me didn't have a lot of room. V12.3.3 I think it still was did not hint at moving over for her until I had to disengage...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Never in 6 years of FSD has the idea of placing a pin at the destination ever even occurred to me. But now that you mention it, if it were that easy to select a particular target spot I might start using it. Arriving home, the nav is just hopelessly lost (tries to take me into a nearby...

But all you really need is the one ingredient that trumps (now really need a synonym for that word...) all the rest: too much free time on your hands. [EDIT: Which all of us here clearly have...]
  37. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

My hypothesis: the directionals in V12 go on based on angle of the trajectory, and ignore navigation info totally. If anyone immediately knows I'm wrong, please share. And ignore the rest of this post. I've been testing my funky intersection down the street (anyone from L.A. remember Seymour on...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I'm not feelin' it. It didn't just go wide like that, there'd have been time to see the "Oops" and correct it before wide release. My take is that it was purposely enabled for everyone as either some sort of brazen display of confidence or as a strategy to have more people experience it even if...
  39. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

The recent release note saying "FSD has been enabled in your car" may have something to do with that?

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Haha, I'm 65 and I still haven't set foot in a "Gentelmen's Club" (or even a strip club).
  41. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

On the back roads of New England, that's Standard Operating Procedure. If I use V12 (pretty much any V12) it means hovering over go. I'm about at the point where most of the time I don't have the patience for it anymore. I have to be in what I think of as "dedicated test mode" but for just...

Not that I'm aware of, I just said I'm looking forward to it because I don't expect versions prior to that will have had more NN training.
  43. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Had the closest I've ever come to a zero-intervention trip today (was still on 12.3.3, although 12.3.4 just finished installing a minute ago.) My only intervention was hitting the go pedal early on in the trip on the highway when it really didn't make much difference and I was just impatient...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

No doubt, eventually. I'm OK with getting the safety level way up before adding more convenience features. To have it drive for us at all is a massive convenience feature already...when it isn't making me look like an idiot to other drivers. So job 1 is to make it stop embarrassing me, then job...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I didn't use V11 off the highway long enough to find out lol. Amen. Absolutely atrocious. I remember when I once had warning of lane changes and plenty of time to cancel. AFAIK that isn't even an option any more and hasn't been for some time? I feel I've been validated now, this is so my...
  46. lzolman

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

I never sit by when stuff like this begins to happen, I disengage immediately and then my #1 priority is to do whatever it takes for the other (wronged) driver to be able to relax. Sometimes that means gunning it to get away, other times just ceasing all turns and lane changes and being stable...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

OK, so what's the full story about "crowd sourced map data" ? As this has the potential of being such an 800 lb. gorilla in the room, why have I heard essentially nothing about it except an occasional mention here on this board? Someone posted recently that they were able to go in and update...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Good thing. Has anyone reported the wiggle happening with a car in the blind spot in the direction of the wiggle? I mean, FSD should see there's a car there and at least not "do the wiggle" when it would be cutting off another vehicle...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Even if there are 300K lines of code, latency isn't directly related to codebase size. It's related to what the code is doing. So, switch of topic here to minimze number of posts: Something I've seen 12.3.3 do a few times is troubling me. With "mininal lane changes" on, as I approach an...

FSD v12.x (end to end AI)

Fallen way behind again, of course. Busy with eclipse. Nameless did most of the driving for the 7-hr drive home from Jackman, ME to just north of Boston. It did OK, meaning it was the cause of no fearful events. I had my wife with me and fearful events are a no-no. So FSDS did its now...
