Power trunk retrofit causing car awake

Absolute insanity. Imagine this happened out of warranty and then they revealed after thousands and thousands in repairs that it was the retrofit.

Power trunk retrofit causing car awake

So when that happened, the version was 2024.3.15. A bit later the car got another update, which said 2024.3.15, and after installation it said 2024.3.14 in the display, but TeslaMate/app are showing 2024.3.15 Car still doesn't sleep. Going to disconnect it again.

Power trunk retrofit causing car awake

I plugged the connector back in mid downloading of the update and the update vanished lol
  4. J

Power trunk retrofit causing car awake

Doesn't seem to cause any other ill effects. Definitely not worth keeping the car awake 24/7 and possibly causing other issues.

Power trunk retrofit causing car awake

Could be a situation like mine too where I didn't have issues for months after getting it installed. Then I decided to wait for a firmware update since that's what they told me to do before looking in to it further. Just all around awful service and communication from Tesla, as usual.

Power trunk retrofit causing car awake

Really appreciate this thread. I got the retrofit done last year around october and didn't have any issues till near the end of February where the car all of a sudden stopped wanting to sleep. I never saw any of the errors, but I did put in a ticket with Tesla who only told me it was a known...

    Car for Storage

Yes, but not immediately. I think there is some buffer like 1-3% before it will top off the charge.
  8. J

    Pre-Conditioning kWh Usage

Probably don't need to precondition anywhere near 41 mins. I've never had the cabin take more than 15 minutes (probably even less tbh) to get up to temp from below freezing, and unless you're doing it to melt snow it's probably just wasting energy. Preconditioning the battery for increased...

    Car for Storage

Set charge limit to 50% and plug it in, should be fine. If you can't leave it plugged in, charge it to 90% and turn off everything, probably including mobile access.

    Rear defroster not working

It honestly isn't wasting any of my time. Mobile service came out and fixed it while I was working, and I barely drive now and situations requiring defrost aren't so common during those few times that I do drive which is why it took me so long to figure out that he didn't actually fix anything.

    Rear defroster not working

Mine currently doesn't work. Mobile service came out and supposedly fixed it but it still doesn't work.

    TeslaMate Super Thread

I would try to get some logs from it. Try stopping it so it doesn't restart and then starting it up attached. docker-compose stop teslamate2 docker-compose up teslamate2

Formatting got butchered... might fix later but make sure you space it properly Back everything up before you try this, but I would imagine... A new teslamate section like so services: teslamate2: image: teslamate/teslamate:latest restart: always environment: - DATABASE_USER=teslamate -...

    Model 3 “running” while parked

I read this a lot on here, but there's no way it does this. The energy required to do this would completely drain a full battery in a day or two. EDIT: Thinking about it a bit, that may be a _bit_ of an exaggeration, but the energy expenditure would be quite a bit more than even running...

    ICBC New Rates???

I pay $3200 for a 2019 LR, leisure use. This was at 43% discount.
  16. J

    Model 3 losing charge quickly

It's 50 degrees out, what do you set your cabin temp to? If you're using the heat, using 74 rated miles for 55 miles of driving is not unheard of.
  17. J

2021 LR not getting 250 kw at V3?

20 minutes of freeway driving will probably not produce not very much waste heat, unless the driving was rather spirited.
  18. J

Does the model 3 AWD use both motors for regen?

Yes in some situations, no in others. In a typical moderate speed scenario with good traction, it will use the more efficient rear motor.

The default docker-compose.yml makes use of docker named volumes. These are managed by docker and I believe are stored in /var/lib/docker/volumes. These are only deleted if you explicitly do so, they won't be destroyed when the container is updated or deleted.

Tracking the car from the Tesla app not updating car position when driving?

You could always just tell her to check in on you on the teslamate UI. I've never watched it while driving but it is a websocket so I'm assuming it's live.
  21. J

Tracking the car from the Tesla app not updating car position when driving?

Well you can disable the streaming API and go back to the old poller. Should be a single switch in the settings.
  22. J

Tracking the car from the Tesla app not updating car position when driving?

Are you using TeslaMate by any chance? Any one of these logging apps that hooks in to the streaming API will cause these symptoms. Doesn't happen with TeslaFi IIRC because they don't use the streaming API.

    Car Wash Mode - Instructions!

That's a good point, I've never actually tried that. Making instructions for myself idiot proof is something I always forget to do, and it often backfires :)
  25. J

    Car Wash Mode - Instructions!

You don't have to put the car in park first to put it in Neutral, just hold the stalk down while in Drive and it will go. You can even do this while it's moving if you want to cruise down a hill without feathering the pedal.

    No, *I’m* being too picky

While I tend to agree, those buttons can't function in the reverse direction like lock/climate can so it doesn't really bother me.

Daily charging vs every few days

This might be true on older S/X vehicles that can charge at 80 amps (I don't actually know, I'd assume not though) , but any of the newer vehicles which max out at 32/48A probably won't taper until well past 90%.

Premium Connectivity cost $9.99/month for many Model 3 versions

Yes, but that works even without premium connectivity. Sometimes I swipe around the map to look for congested routes to plan my trip.

Premium Connectivity cost $9.99/month for many Model 3 versions

$13.99 and the only thing I really use is live traffic vis.. definitely going to have to think about this.

  34. J

    TeslaMate Super Thread

Right, that happens to me too. Uninterrupted sleep for about 2 days then 2-3 hours of awake time. At first I was concerned, but after having the car sit for weeks following this cycle, I noticed the 'vampire drain' is more or less consistent with what I saw prior to having any kind of data...

Unfortunately without Teslamate I wouldn't have a way of knowing. My car does seem to wake up every ~1.5 days and stays awake for about 3 hours though.

    TeslaMate Super Thread

Cool. You're much better at this than you let on earlier ;) You can not change Traefik to use 80/443 or 1443/180 because they're all in use, by unraid and nginx respectively. What you'll want to do is remove the traefik stuff completely. It's probably actually easier moving forward using the...
  38. J

    TeslaMate Super Thread

Okay, a bunch of things. 1) I have no idea any specifics on Unraid, so you're on your own for that. 2) Letsencrypt is just for securing the webserver(s). Is your unraid setup available from outside your home network? Is it working with a valid certificate? 3) The ports 4000 and 3000 are not...
  39. J

    TeslaMate Super Thread

The docker-compose setup is using traefik to terminate the SSL traffic, as well as serve the challenge file for letsencrypt so it's configured to use both 80/443. What are you using nginx for? You should probably just add the reverse proxy setup to your nginx conf.

    TeslaMate Super Thread

It's not really about the stats for me, I didn't make grafana available externally, just the TM app. I found myself losing huge chunks of drives due to the sleep cycle settings and the car's inconsistency on whether or not it'll sleep on the first attempt. Now I have the ability to confirm the...

    TeslaMate Super Thread

Yeah, but it's not that bad. Easiest way is to buy a domain and use some kind of dyndns setup to keep your Public IP up to date. Port forward is simple enough in the router, and the simple auth and SSL encryption are detailed pretty well in the setup docs.

I have this running on a CentOS7 VM. Very easy to do just the basic install. I also set it up to be accessible outside, the httpd guide on the repo is decent, but I chose to run it in another docker container rather than running it on the host itself.

AC and seat heat battery drain

55 ambient and 'AC' set to 73 means you're using the heater. That's what's using the energy. The seat heater will be almost unnoticeable by itself.

Battery heating while charging with Wall Charger

I found this exact same thing. My solution was to charge in big chunks, especially now that I never drive due to social distancing, etc. I will charge my car up to 70% and then immediately lower it to 50% (you could probably automate this via mosquitto tie in with Teslamate, I've been too lazy...

    Is Phantom drain a hoax?

I've gone away for over a week and my car has lost 3%. I've also let it sit overnight and it's lost 5%. It is completely inconsistent and the fact of the matter is you just can not park it for extended (2+ months) periods of time unplugged without worrying about it.

    Busted Charging/Precondition Myths

Is this actually possible? IIRC the battery merely provides the excess that the wall power can not provide. How would the wall power going through the battery work anyway? It can't exactly charge and discharge at the same time.
