2021 Tesla Model Y Long Range FSD

I can't speak to how long a bank would take to release title, but when I sold my model 3 this year (title in hand), the buyer sent me a picture of his cashier's check shortly before we met, I called his bank, provided the check number, and had them verbally verify to me that it was a legitimate...

Software update 2020.48.26.x update, font size problems

The font change doesn't bother me much, but I am really annoyed that the visualization pane was enlarged and the map was made smaller. Personally I would love to see the road visualization removed completely and have the map take up the majority of the screen. Or at least have the visualization...

    Post your Garage charging setup!

Those of you who have installed a HPWC without using a conduit on the wall, can you explain your choice of wire? I'd like to mount my HPWC on the wall a couple of feet from the electrical panel in my garage and was planning to cut a strip of drywall to drill the studs and run wires through them...

WTB: Gen 2 HPWC Wall Connector/Charger

I just moved and have a silver 24' gen2 which I haven't put up yet because I can't find the low profile bracket. I would consider going to a gen3 because an 8' cable would be plenty for me. Where are you located? I'm in Knoxville TN. Alternatively if you are interested in selling the low...

    WTB: HPWC low profile bracket

I just moved and need to reinstall my gen 2 wall connector, but I cannot find the low profile mounting bracket. If anyone has one they are willing to sell, or willing to trade for a top-entry bracket, please let me know.

Recommendations, please: kayaks, trailers, hitches, advice for Model 3

I stand corrected; that looks like a pretty well designed trailer. Would certainly be easier to load/unload than a roof rack. You'd still have the challenges of taking corners, backing up, and finding places to park with all that length, but certainly not impossible. I could be wrong, but I'd...

Recommendations, please: kayaks, trailers, hitches, advice for Model 3

I used to haul two kayaks on the roof of my Mazda 6, and this picture from a google search confirms that it's also possible on the 3. The roof rack is supposed to be good for 150lb and two standard kayaks with mounting hardware would be well within that limit. I'm not sure I would risk it...

    Wild thought about HVAC

If you happen to have an electric water heater in the garage like I do, you could consider upgrading to a high-efficiency heat pump water heater like this. Saves money in the long run, and will cool down your garage as an added benefit.

    Anything I'll miss upgrading to "just" a M3 SR+ from Audi A4?

The only thing I really dislike about our 2018 Model 3 is the wind noise. Tesla is miles ahead in almost every other department, but the car is way noisier at highway speeds than practically any other car built in the last 5 years that I've driven. I haven't driven an Audi recently, but our...

Will you buy FSD before the $1,000 increase on July 1st?

Same here. I'm a techie and might stretch to $2000 just for the thrill of being on the cutting edge, but $4k is a good bit of cash and I can't imagine spending it on something that really won't be of practical use for years, if at all.

30% tint all around, too light, too dark, or just enough for the back?

I did llumar ceramic 30% front and 15% rear windows. Very happy with it. More comfortable in the back, but it's already hard to see out the front side windows at 30% (especially with the dimming side mirrors), so I wouldn't recommend doing darker than that.

    Alternative to Sentry Mode?

1mi/hr equates to ~230 watts or so? I agree that's pretty inefficient to record from 4 cameras. A typical dashcam uses <5 watts. It would have been nice if Tesla had thought that through and included some low-power cores on HW3 to run Sentry without draining the battery so much. That said...

Model 3 taken in Dwi case

Apparently he's not the only one lacking judgment and discretion.

Model 3 taken in Dwi case

Exactly. Those of you who feel worthy to cast judgment, maybe reserve it for one of the 99% of drunk drivers that haven't been caught. This guy lost a $50k car, got a record ding, skyrocketing car insurance, etc. No need to kick him again. That said, OP, I'm sorry for what you're going through...

    Non tesla chargers

Just to clarify, NEMA 14-50 is a type of 220v receptacle, and in order to use one, you need your own charging connector like the one that comes with the car. Although NEMA 14-50 is capable of up to 50 amps, the current generation mobile charge connector which comes with cars only supports 32...

    Non tesla chargers

Your car should come with a J1772 adapter which looks like this. Use the Plugshare app to see local charging stations. Anything listed as J1772 will work with this adapter

temporary runaway car after stop autopilot?

Now I'm curious, what happens if you hold the park button at high speed? I'd like to know, because some cars have a button at this location which activates the windshield washer...so it's conceivable a Tesla novice might play with it inadvertently while driving. I once tried holding up the...

Roof Crack Issue - Tesla refuses that its a stress crack. Any advise?

I love my model 3, but seeing this makes me wish that they offered a plain metal roof for the car. I may be in the minority, but I would actually consider that an upgrade. I have no interest in having the sun on my head while driving; I kept the sunroof closed on every other car I've had, and I...

    2 Tesla Charging setup

What about changing the NEMA 14-50 to a pair of 6-20 outlets? This would require minimal additional wiring and you could keep the same circuit breaker. The downside is that each charger would be limited to 20a. I'm sure I'll get flamed for even mentioning this option, but you could...

Model 3 SRP on order over 1 month, would like to start a sticky thread for "needed accessories"

My car is 1.5yrs old with 15k miles. Never had any coatings, just a wash monthly or so and about 3 waxes so far with $4 walmart turtle wax. I have a few tiny rock chips on the bumper, but the car has held up just fine. That said, if you live in an area with a lot of dirt roads, etc, some type of...

Sentry Mode used 18 miles of battery overnight.

I just leave sentry mode turned on and exclude locations where I park in a garage. It has never turned on in my garage. Sentry does seem to use a good bit of power, but my guess is that most of it is running the computer for motion-detection and recording. Cameras themselves probably only use...

Vendor Window protection for your Tesla

Actually I was thinking that if a thief is willing to break a window, rather than try the wind window at all, they would preferentially target the larger window where they can see whatever they want to take. Breaking the wing window would necessitate sticking one's hand all the way forward in...

Droning/humming sound when turning at low speeds

I also noticed this once when turning left while going uphill slowly. It felt like a grinding noise/sensation. Bad CV half-shaft came to mind, or something like the tire rubbing against the fender, but I haven't been able to reproduce it since.

    Preheating Noise Changed

Thanks, I was wondering what that high pitched noise was. It's actually useful; I just follow it when I'm trying to find my car in a parking lot.

    AP/Cruise problem

Same here, it consistently slows for a second if I let off the pedal right after engaging AP. I hadn't made the connection with the latest update, but it must be since it didn't behave that way in the past. Not a big deal...I'm sure it'll be fixed with the next update.

Anyone From TN Buy Used Tesla from Tesla?

I don't see why you couldn't drive to FL and pick up your car. You would have to pay the TN rate for sales tax, but I don't see why you would be forced to pay to get it shipped. I purchased my model 3 from private party out of state, then drove it back and registered it here in TN.

Bought used, but original order was placed 6/29/18, and I appear to have the free connectivity.

I recently took a trip from TN to MI, and had no charge for the Lima OH supercharger. 8 slots sitting in a Hampton Inn parking lot.

    Front bumper damaged from collision

As CharlieBC stated above, I would only be concerned about the ultrasonic sensors and the radar behind the bumper fascia, and if autopilot works and you haven't seen any errors pop up on the screen, I would assume you're good to go. Also, if you haven't already, don't even mention anything to...

    Front bumper damaged from collision

If that were me I would not bother fixing or getting insurance involved, assuming the sensors are working OK. Buff and wax the bumper and move on. I'd bet the service center would be happy to recommend replacing the bumper for upwards of $1000. Would not be worth it to me, especially with the...

Model 3 7 day return and auto park

This is a good idea. My driveway is a bit sloped and summon does not work; I get an error message saying summon is unavailable because the grade is too steep. Luckily my garage is spacious enough and I have no trouble driving it in myself.

    Model 3 Performance vs Model S 75D

The main thing I don't like about the back seats on the 3 is the angle which makes you sit so upright. I noticed this right away coming from a 2016 Civic. I've never been in a model S, but the backseat angle of the 3 makes it feel like I'm sitting straight up; not sure I could take it for long...

Default charging reverts to 5A at 48A home charger

I have a similar issue when using local public chargers. The charger supports 40A and initially charging speed ramps up to 40/40, but after a few minutes my car will randomly drop to 38/40 or 36/40 and fluctuate. Not really an issue but I'm wondering if it's the wall connector doing that, or the...

Price Check - Selling my '18 M3 AWD w/FSD (Florida)

Great price, should be a quick sale. If you ordered the car before 7/1/19, would specify free premium connectivity as a perk.

For Quick Sale - M3 LR AWD w/FSD

Great price and love the color. Would have jumped on this if I hadn't already picked up a white model. If this has grandfathered premium connectivity (ordered before 7/1/18), may want to specify that as a plus. Also, for quick sale you may want to list at onlyusedtesla for more exposure.

    Insurance data points

You may be right. Progressive is amazing. I shop around every year or two, and their rate is less than half of any other company's. I had one minor accident a few years ago and paid for it out-of-pocket so as to avoid risking a premium change.

    Insurance data points

Kept everything the same. Liability, comprehensive, and collision all went down a bit. It seems that Progressive considers autonomous features heavily in their rates. Before getting the M3, my wife and I both had identical Civics, except one with sensing and one without. The one with sensing was...

    Lost FM Radio

This happened to me at least three times in the past few weeks. Got the spinner icon when selecting FM, while everything else worked fine. I don't think I even rebooted; just listened to something else and it worked the next time I tried. Nice to know I wasn't the only one.

    Model 3 headrest

Thanks for the tip; I needed that! The two things I missed coming from my 2016 Civic were the steering wheel material and the way more comfortable headrest. Always feels like I'm leaning forward or too far back, and the neck is always uncomfortable even after buying a neckrest. I'm pretty sure...

MASTER THREAD: USB drives that work with Sentry and TeslaCam

I had been using a Samsung Endurance 64gb microSD, and this was working for several weeks up until I started getting recurrent errors about accessing the drive. Coincidentally this was around the time I got the V10 upgrade, although I can't say for sure that it didn't start below. I reformatted...
