FIRMWARE UPDATE! AP2 Local road driving...and holy crap

I can't relate at all to most of this thread (and so many others). I am perfectly satisfied with my purchase, I loved my car from day 1 (even with no AP features enabled), I love TACC, I am excited to get autosteer for my regular driving soon, and I am excited for it's abilities to improve...

    8.0 (2.50.185) caution using TACC/Autosteer features

I get the impression when TACC is not turned, it does not show other vehicles in front of you when you are under 5MPH by design. Not sure if this is always the case, but it seems to stop showing vehicles when I drop under 5MPH most of the time.

Initial 1000 HW2 cars getting AP software 12/31/16

Agreed. He didn't state outright, but I assume they will wait a bit after activation. His tweet indicated shadow mode followed by activation with easing of the restrictions with caution after they have data.

    Firmware 8.0

The wiper/auto-lights issue is specific to AP2 cars. I should have explained that in my post. It is related to us not yet having rain-sensing wipers. Instead, we have dumb intermittent settings where pre AP2 cars have rain sensing low and high sensitivity settings. It seems they forgot to tie...

    Firmware 8.0

In my case, the lights did not turn on with the wipers on either intermittent setting but they did with the wipers on the constant settings. They also remained on about a minute after turning the wipers off. I do not know if they would have turned off after a minute with the wipers on an...

Airbag Recall is here for Tesla

The point is 2012's don't have AP1 hardware nor ultrasonic sensors so there is nothing to replace.

Initial 1000 HW2 cars getting AP software 12/31/16

It means the AP2 software will be running in the background while you drive so Tesla can validate it across the entire HW2 fleet.

Scary moment after software update 2.52.120 on HW2 model. Car would not charge

30 minutes after my update to .120, my car showed charging complete with -3 miles added. I didn't pay attention to the other details or bother to snap a picture.

Initial 1000 HW2 cars getting AP software 12/31/16

I did, and I don't regret it. I knew what I was getting. Any differentiation between the EAP and FSD packages is not likely for quite some time, and I doubt the car will ever be able to drive without me in it. Nevertheless, I am excited to be on the cutting edge for years. I do expect it to...

Initial 1000 HW2 cars getting AP software 12/31/16

Anyone with the new 2.52.120 build? It looks like it is going out to AP2 cars. One entry on ev-fw.com notes the release notes just say improvements/fixes. No idication as to whether on not they are in the initial 1000. Teslafi.com shows 1 car with the update and it's an AP2 in CA.
  13. N

Initial 1000 HW2 cars getting AP software 12/31/16

Not yet. Tesla is being cautious and will eliminate the 35 MPH restriction when they have more data. AP1 never had a 35 MPH restriction. There was a restriction to AP1 that wouldn't allow anything over the speed limit on undivided roads. That restriction replaced the previous +5MPH/+10 km/h...

Initial 1000 HW2 cars getting AP software 12/31/16

Ev-fw.com is showing one 2.52.36 to an AP2 car. My guess is .36 is the update expected Monday and has only just started rolling out (5AM timestamp). If so, we should find out shortly!

Next Gen Seats are very uncomfortable for normal sized drivers

I'm 6'2" with an athletic build and I find the next gen seat perfectly comfortable. They fit me better than my 911 did.

    The Cost of Super-Charging

Sorry to be pedantic, but this is a far too common mistake. You wrote kw/h when you meant kWh. A watt is power. So a watt per hour is a rate of change in energy and not what you meant. In fact, unless you are indicating some very specific characteristics of a system you will never need watts per...

Initial 1000 HW2 cars getting AP software 12/31/16

But this would be software for testing in their isolated AP shadow mode sandbox and have no impact on the vehicle's operation! This is my third Tesla and I think they would if they think it will accelletate AP development. Tesla often speaks of the AP2 hardware as sandbox at their disposal for...

EAP HW2 - my experience thus far... [DJ Harry]

Your message seems contradictory. Judging from Elon's wording, I took his message to indicate a higher confidence than the initial rollout. My assumption is that this new update will fix/improve the reported problems and there is a higher confidence that the rest of the fleet will be activated...

Initial 1000 HW2 cars getting AP software 12/31/16

We don't know what the shadow mode entails, but we do know it's Tesla's intention to test AP2 software in the background of the entire fleet. It's has not been explicitly stated to my knowledge, but it's possible shadow mode is already running. I am on .180, and the HW2 fan runs consistently. If...

Initial 1000 HW2 cars getting AP software 12/31/16

It is possible Tesla has the ability to push to HW2 without an update. I have wondered if Tesla would start doing this to enable rapid testing in shadow mode. This would let them test as many revisions as they need throughout the fleet without having to have customers take update after update.

Being told I "have to" take premium seats

I'd ask your delivery specialist when yours is scheduled to start production. I got a very accurate answer to that question before it was even confirmed.

    Ehanced AP

Not for the AP2 hardware. The delay is just that Tesla is still working on the software for the new hardware platform. It's going to be a wild ride, but your patience will be worth it!

    8.0 (2.50.185) caution using TACC/Autosteer features

EAP HW2 - my experience thus far... [DJ Harry]

Looping through your video, most of the wiggle is next to the car and becomes greater the further back. It looks like there is a small wiggle up front and that is being amplified as it projects the line further back. Interesting... my hope is it will soon use side and rear camera data to improve...

EAP HW2 - my experience thus far... [DJ Harry]

It's continuously redetermining where the line is and coming up with different estimations. It's expected as long as it always quickly averages out close enough.

HW2 Autopilot - is it just me? or....

I expect sometime this year, FSD cars will start getting features EAP won't. I could easily be wrong.

EAP HW2 - my experience thus far... [DJ Harry]

If I were designing this, I would filter out the jitter. Personally, I would prefer to be able to see it, but I understand why it's alarming to some. I think preferably I'd like to see indication of uncertainty in the form of wider lane lines (stabilized over a short duration).
  33. N

EAP HW2 - my experience thus far... [DJ Harry]

The jitter is also very similar in to the line jitter of the raw Tesla Vision line estimations shown in Tesla's self driving demo videos!
  34. N

EAP HW2 - my experience thus far... [DJ Harry]

I wouldn't jump to that conclusion. You are comparing the visual representation of two different systems. The jitter here comes from Tesla Vision and may be no worse or even better than uncertainty in AP1. I would bet any small uncertainty is just filtered out in AP1 until it becomes so great...

HW2 Autopilot - is it just me? or....

I sold my classic 18 months ago and waited on the sidelines for AP2 hardware. I don't expect it will ever be FSD, but I think there is a reasonable expectation it will eventually be safe for me to fully relax for a portion of my commute. I will even be pleased if all they ever achieve for my car...

Initial 1000 HW2 cars getting AP software 12/31/16

I think they need a larger, more public group that comes after beta so they start rollouts with more accepting customers and avoid public complaints like the ones we see here.
  38. N

Initial 1000 HW2 cars getting AP software 12/31/16

Tesla needs to set up a volunteer group to take the updates first. I would gladly join that group with the understanding there could be bugs.
  39. N

AP2 Software update start rolling out beyond the initial 1000?

There have been a steady daily stream of new .185's on TeslaFi.com all 9 of which are in California. It's a small sample size, but definitely doesn't show anything outside of the initial rollout despite 1-2 new installs every day.

AP 2.0 - Lets log our experiences

I am pleased to see a video demonstration of autosteer working well. I am a bit disappointed it doesn't display vehicles in the adjacent lanes. I would be blown away to see it display vehicles next to the vehicle (other than ultrasonic indicators), but I know that is likely months away. Judging...

  42. N

Initial 1000 HW2 cars getting AP software 12/31/16

I'm sort of flabbergasted. Yes, the two methods cruise control conflict, but the whole intention would be to only have basic cruise control while TACC is calibrating. If your point is that it can't be done without modifying the basic cruse control software, you are most likely correct, but why...
  43. N

Initial 1000 HW2 cars getting AP software 12/31/16

I think common sense is enough to assume the cameras can calibrate with a basic cruise control.
  44. N

Being told I "have to" take premium seats

I think they are very close in comfort, but I prefer perforated and ventilated (although I found the ventilation to be a bit lacking).
  45. N

Initial 1000 HW2 cars getting AP software 12/31/16

I see no reason this is true. Most likely, no one foresaw the failed calibration problems and didn't think a few hours without cruise control was worth the trouble of implementing and explaining the temporary basic cruise control.
  46. N

Being told I "have to" take premium seats

I was hoping to get the premium seats but ended up with next gen. Oh well.
  47. N

Initial 1000 HW2 cars getting AP software 12/31/16

I think Tesla needed to deploy the hardware to bake the software. Welcome to a new age.

How do you wash your Tesla?

I use a reverse osmosis aquarium filter to fill a barrel so my water is spot-free and I don't have to dry the car.
