You are right. I should have said struggling and not even able to break even.

Please tell me what the model 3 has that no one else can touch? What will make my friends who think my experience with Tesla is a bad one (having to drive to another city for service for example) makes the other choices so bad?

They aren't watch makers. They can see that ICE is on the way out. Do you not understand that Tesla has awakened a sleeping giant? It's not like the car makers don't know this. That is part of why they aren't coming out with more models right now. GM is working with a supplier in Korea as...

Actually, you are more right than he is. It is very unlikely Germany would have defeated Russia even without US help on the western front. By the same token Germany tried to win an unwinnable war by building vastly superior weapons since they knew they couldn't build larger quantities...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

You mean the company that has the highest executive turnover anyone has seen? The facts are that while there can be new pardigms in the market, the big players always adjust. Literally this is a market where small competitors just don't have the muscle to continue to compete year after year...

I was actually referring to some of the projections of the Tesla truck. The model 3 is pretty vanilla other than the missing grill which makes it look more like a Karmann Ghia. I guess I forgot about the Ghia mustache. How many 3s have those wide whitewalls? Wouldn't this be rad with a...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

That's probably true since no major auto maker has said they would have significant EV models until 2022 or so. So it has been true and will continue to be true until they produce the cars.

That's why the 4 hour requirement. I don't know anyone who wants to drive more than a tank of gas without food. No, not true, I know people who travel on energy bars and coke/coffee. Not me, I want a real meal with no rush. An hour is good. What market. There's virtually no choices. Do...

That "games"? The auto makers give the people what they want same as every other manufacturer (by that I mean what sells). What you call "games" is how the dealers get people to buy cars. That won't change either since it sells cars too. People have always had choices. In the 70s they...

Only the 120V adapter comes with a brand new car??

Yeah, in 5 years or so virtually every destination, including local shopping and movies, etc will have enough level 2 chargers for everyone. It might not be free, but will be about the same as parking if not part of parking. Funny how people complain about the "high cost" of third party...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

When you talk about singles or duals, I believe you are talking about the old, 50 kW fast chargers. No one is using those for trips unless they are desperate. Check Plugshare. I did and found at least 4 chargers at each of the 11 stations between Jacksonville, FL and Houston, TX. Each one...

By net profit improving you mean the loss was less, yes, that is true. It was still very significant with no clear explanation of why it was such a surprise. There clearly should have been a warning to expect losses in 2019 before 2018 had ended. I don't believe that is correct...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

Yes, if you are buying an EV today the Supercharging network makes Tesla the only real choice. But going forward that will diminish and in three to five years, about the time every car company is selling EVs, the fast charging network will no longer be dominated by Tesla.

Seriously, you just aren't reading it correctly. Unless the report uses quotes around the text, you have to cut them some slack. They are saying Tesla reported numbers that were less than what FactSet expected. There's a difference between what you have written above and Nobody's a...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Why not??? They have built a whole new line. That gets depreciated over time if the cars are built or not. No small part of the costs. Reasonable, but the devil is in the details. Also very likely is a drop in model 3 sales as the Y fills backlog orders doubling up your hump effect. That...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

They make the S and X on the same line even though they only use something like 20% common parts. I believe they are building a whole, new line for the model Y but it should come up to speed fairly quickly. They are claiming the model 3 line in China will be producing shippable cars in two...

Tesla, TSLA & the Investment World: the Perpetual Investors' Roundtable

Wow! Wish I could get that. I can survive with no A/C during the days, but winter I have to heat at night. I'd do the thing where they heat rocks/water at night and let that keep the house warm during the day. I think most people don't realize the cost of fueling an EV is pretty much in...

That is crazy odd. Definitely not a "base" coat to be covered with another color. Black is the hardest color to cover. A close second is the color of the bathroom walls in my old house. I'll have to drop by next weekend when I'm up. Watch the paint dry. Heck, I can do that whether or not...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

Once GM gets real about EVs they will kill them both. They also have a major autonomous driving effort going on. It's just early days. Remember that the first to market of so many devices often do not turn out to be the winners. In five years you won't be able to keep track of all the EVs...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

Who says they will give you a new screen? My understanding is they still do not consider the yellow/brown border to be a warranty issue and so will not replace units unless ordered to do so by arbitration. My local service center does not have the UV machine and didn't offer to help me find...

    Rivian Vs Tesla

Tesla has said they would share their charging network if the others will help build it. Because of the different standards this will be a tricky thing anyway. There will be some sort of shake out at some point. It is looking like in the US it will be Tesla vs. CCS. Given that Tesla will be...

    Rivian Vs Tesla

I'd like an electric truck, but not the monsters they are designing. I used to have a T100, slightly smaller than the original Tundra but larger than the "small" pickups they are making now. Give me 350 mile range and I'll be good. That will mean I can actually use 280 miles or so. Still a...

Only the 120V adapter comes with a brand new car??

I tried that last year and found the hotel chains aren't quite up to speed on the charger thing. While they will let you select all sorts of things about your rooms and the hotel having a breakfast, swimming pool, etc... they don't let you screen locations based on having chargers. So you have...

Only the 120V adapter comes with a brand new car??

You mean they found out half their customers were using the adapter. That would tell me to keep including it. Lol, the idea that Tesla is worried about wall unit sales is funny. They make next to nothing on these units. The competing units that provide less current and fewer capabilities...

Only the 120V adapter comes with a brand new car??

Too bad everyone doesn't have an electrician uncle. That was my point. Very few people know you can't draw 15 amps "continuously" from a 15 amp circuit... which is not really true. You can and the circuit breaker won't blow... every time anyway. If it does blow it will take a long time...

In this case the stock price of TSLA is purely because of what Tesla does. You can view price history graphs in many web pages and compare it to the markets. There are plenty of times when Tesla does it's own thing and plenty of times when it is just following the market if at an amplified...

I think the updates should be fewer between with smaller impacts to the UI. We need to consider who has bought the cars to date and the overwhelming masses who haven't. When people ask me about the car's interface and operation I tell them it's not so much a car with smarts, as it is a cell...

I'd like to have a sexier car or even one that says something other than "Hey, me too!" My X does not stand out in a crowd until I open a falcon wing door. If by the 2% battle you mean among the EVs, then that battle has not yet started. What Tesla did was what a start up EV company would do, go all in on EVs in every way they can think of, design, charging infrastructure, new sales methods... Tesla has no tie to the ICE status quo so they had no...

We really need something like that in the US where people just walk away from their jobs for a week or two. I worked with a French company once and around Bastille day they were shut down. Not one day, the week! I guess 4th of July is like that for us, but we really only get one day off work.

Only the 120V adapter comes with a brand new car??

I don't know if it is important that 10-30 circuits are more common than the 14-50. 240 volt outlets accessible to the car are few and far between. A friend I sometimes visit said I could pull in his garage, snake my cable through the back door into his laundry room which should reach, but...

Almost 15% range loss Model 3 Awd

Wh are measured, miles are measured. Where does the "rating" come in? I don't understand how you are using this term. The rated mileage is just a number you use for approximating based on a specific course. Are you just trying to compare your mileage to the "rated" mileage?

Plug in solar- legal in US?

Ok, I get it. I'm familiar enough with the code to know extension cords are not allowed for permanent installations. Otherwise they are fine used singly. I don't know, but I would expect the "rapid shut down" to either be internal to the solar system or a separate switch easily accessible...

Lost 40 miles range on a 11mile regular journey?? New Model 3

I've lost the gist of the conversation so it doesn't matter to me what anyone was saying. I was just trying to make the point of quoting so people can figure out who is responding to what. Here even that is not always enough since the forum only automatically quotes the previous guy and...

Not trying to rag on you, but I always find it interesting that people try to excuse behavior because others do it. Wasn't it one of the first things your mom taught you? "So if everyone was jumping off a roof you would do it too?"

Only the 120V adapter comes with a brand new car??

Really? Decades??? By whom exactly? I seriously doubt even 1% of the general population know even what volts or amps are, much less how many amps you can draw from a household circuit. Actually, yes it is Tesla's fault for not educating their customers when they are buying a car or...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

This makes Tesla's competition very, very happy. I have said before that Tesla's big advantage is their technology. Everyone else's advantage is that they've been making and selling cars for many, many years and know both cars and their customers and how to treat them. Especially given that...

Yellow screen? Force Tesla to Replace it!

Yeah, it's so, so disappointing to be ignored by Tesla. I feel ignored for a number of service issues that I have documented and they still won't fix because they can't be bothered to explore for the cause when it doesn't manifest in front of their eyes. I reported my brown screen the other...

    Superchargers Doubling in 2019?

Superchargers are seldom installed in residential areas. They are installed in commercial areas where electricity usage goes up nearly every day. It's hard for me to remember a commercial area which doesn't get a new Wendy's or gas station or any manner of big box store at some point during...

Plug in solar- legal in US?

I'm pretty sure that unless something is installed in the circuit breaker panel, or in this branch line entering the panel, there is no practical way to sense the current in the wire. On the other hand, the only way to have an overload in the wire is if the solar panel were plugged into an...

Plug in solar- legal in US?

If I had clear view of the sky from my roof I would consider a small solar installation like that. I'm on TOU service which they won't allow me to combine with the net metering. I guess they are worried I'll get too good a deal pumping electricity to them at nearly $0.40 a kWh in the late...
