Modern Spare for Mod3 -- unused -- Portland area

My time is amazingly bad right now. I still have the spare but I will have a hard time delivering it myself. I live near Canby and could meet in Wilsonville for example.

Phone as a key stopped working suddenly (April 2023)

My phone does not unlock once every month or two. Most of the time, turning off Bluetooth and turning it back on (on the phone) fixes it. I have traced most issues to something going on with the phone, Pixel 6A, but it is not common enough to be more than slightly irritating. The card is your...

How pervasive is the HVAC “smell” issue in the PNW?

I live just South of Portland (near Canby) and park outside. Model 3 purchased Aug 2019, traded Jan 2023 for Model Y. So, over 4 years of Tesla experience with no issue. I did have the air filters changed on the Mod3 about 2021 when it was in for other warranty work.

Phone app was connected but Card Key needed to start the car

For several months last year the current update (of the car software) caused this to happen all the time in the 2019 Model 3 I had. I have never had a problem with the Model Y in 3+ months I have owned it. Over the last nearly 4 years most of my similar problems (but for the time last year)...

Anyone have a 6MT car in addition to their Y?

2008 Forester XT 5MT. Skid plates, STI front brakes, short throw shifter, better anti-roll bar. Can't bring myself to sell it although I have come to hate driving it on the freeway in stop and go.

Anyone Having Issues with Tires Rubbing When Turning?

Never felt that. I would look at the tires just after you have felt it. If it is happening I believe it is a problem that Tesla should fix.

Noob snow driver here - when do I need chains in snow?

In April, you should get snow only near the tops of the passes, so you will probably be ok. And even then it will only last for a few hours. The "traction devices required beyond here" signs are up either all season or all year in Oregon. It is up to you decide if that is required. I would...

Noob snow driver here - when do I need chains in snow?

Last I checked, in Oregon you need AWD and a tire with the snow flake on it -- generally called all weather. Normal All Season and All Season M&S do not have the snow flake. https://www.tirerack.com/upgrade-garage/what-is-the-threepeak-mountain-snowflake-symbol That said, the CrossClimate 2...

Wall connector, or J1772 Wall Connector?

This is the smallest Tesla to J1772 I have seen. Looks nice but I haven't used it. I was thinking, if I were to get a wall unit, I would get the J1772 one. But with something this small, I would definitely stay with the Tesla plug (and cheaper) plus this...

Modern Spare for Mod3 -- unused -- Portland area

Just changed from Model 3 to Model Y. My Mod3 Modern Spare "Complete kit with carrying case" was never used and never removed from the case. Carried in car on longer trips, otherwise stored in heated garage. Current price = $470 + $48 shipping. $375. Will deliver anywhere near-ish Portland...

How accurate is trade in value?

$31.4K. Purchased Aug 2019. 44K miles. FSD which they claim is part of the offer. Just looked up the intial offer and was surprised to see it was lower than I remembered: $28.7K - $32.1K, so they paid near the top of that. A few months ago the offer was up in the low 40's but that was...

question on home wall connector and mobile connector

My recent experience: UMC (mobile connector) ordered 12/22, Model Y ordered as well UMC shipped 12/29 via UPS UMC arrived 1/3 VIN assigned 1/13 ModY picked up 1/17 I agree the UMC is the cheapest and most flexible choice. I have one permanentlly plugged into 6-50 at home. I have another in...

Tesla Model Y does not show USB flash drive

This smaller $10 one works fine and fits more conveniently in the glove box. I use one SD card for the dashcam and one for FLAC music. The one for the dashcam has to have the correct subdirectory on it. Warning: I have not tried the UI formatting on this setup -- not sure if that would...

Tesla Model Y does not show USB flash drive

Just moved from my 2019 Mod3 to a 2023 ModY. Was disappointed to find the console type C connectors are charge only. I was using this in my Mod3 and it works fine in the glove compartment of the ModY: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ARAH6O0/ With 2 of these plugged into it...

    Incredibly fast delivery

They lowered the price in my existing order to the new numbers within about 24 hours of their announcement. So, what a ride. First hoped to get $7.5K off last year but expected that to be unlikely given 12/22 order. But it's ok because I will get the Gov $7.5K in 2023 Q1. Then I won't get...

Tesla almost left me stranded - again.

I dial in my next destination when I arrive at the Supercharger. As I charge, the nav system tells me what my arrival SOC% will be and continuously updates as I charge. I run the charge until arrival reaches 20%, unplug and leave. Isn't that what you want?

How accurate is trade in value?

I just did this, trading my 2019 Model 3 in for Model Y. They gave me a range before the order because I asked for the estimate. When I actually ordered, they asked me again if I wanted to do a trade. When I said yes they asked for a picture from each side of the car and one of the inside...

Model y when does dual motor activate

My understanding is slightly different than this. Early on, Tesla tried to develop a 2-speed transmission to maximize acceleration and efficiency, but they failed -- too much torque broke it. Now (or at least as of a couple of years ago) they design the rear motor for maximum acceleration at...

    Premature Tire Wear

Approximately related question. I'm picking up a new Fremont ModY LR on Tuesday. My 2019 Model 3 came from the factory out of alignment (which I did not catch for a while). Can I expect new cars from Fremont to be better now or should I expect to need an alignment?

    Font size?

Making the font size adjustable is not easy to do reliably. Once the screen layout is settled for a given size and the data it presents, making the font larger means that the layout can easily be mucked up by longer data (just an example). I believe it would both substantially raise the amount...

What features do you wish the Model Y came with (Dec 2022/Jan 2023) Wishlist

Provide 240VAC split phase power to my house -- would have been very good just today. And I would be happy if the car just provided DC from the main battery to an outside 8KW inverter so that extra stuff is not carried in the car. More distant (sadly): Drive me home from happy hour being...

"Charge port latch not engaged" only for scheduled charging

Mine is doing the same, only for the last 3 weeks or so. I plug it in and get the warning that it is not engaged -- and I don't hear it engage when I plug it in. I have it set to charge at 1AM but can start charging normally any time despite the warning. Apparently it just engages when I...

Why choose Model 3 over Model Y if you can have more trunk space?

I expect to be OK with the Y. I have also been waiting for the supposed +16% range from 4680 cells. 330 x 1.16 = 383 would be excellent. It's beginning to look like they won't go that way any time soon, however.

Why choose Model 3 over Model Y if you can have more trunk space?

Well, there is also the extra 5+ inches of seat height above the ground for the Y. I love my 3 but my wife complains about the height (we're in our 70's) and my Mother (90's) simply cannot get out of it without great difficulty. That sticks me driving her garbage Buick Encore when I take her...

car is bricked without key card

This occasionally happens to me because my phone updated some things and either 1) turned off bluetooth or 2) killed the Tesla app. i.e. caused by the phone, not the car. I always carry the card. I can put the wallet on the car without removing the card from the wallet. I don't understand...

6’6” tall. Is the M3 for me?

The internal structure of the dead pedal is foam. It can be removed which gives your left leg more room to stretch -- very nice for us tall people. The outside is still there which sticks up a bit and I'm sure people who care more about appearance than function would not like it. However, I...

6’6” tall. Is the M3 for me?

I am over 6'6" and have no problem with my Model 3. The Model S (which I have had on loan a couple of times during maintenance) is much worse getting in and out due to the forward position of the B pillar. I have removed the foam inside my dead pedal (per other posts on these forums) which is...

Does the charge port not open when car is in sleep with the UMC?

Most of the time the following works for me: Push, release, push. It acts as if it is waking up on the first and then unlocking the charger on the second. But, fairly rarely -- maybe 3 times a year, I need to open the door or use the app to wake it up.

Winter tires for MYP - PNW folks ?

And there is the option of "all weather" such as Nokian WR. They have the snowflake so they meet the traction tire requirement for winter roads here in Oregon -- probably WA too. I put those on my wife's Volvo and my old Subaru (but run the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 on my Mod3). I like having at...

    Nema 6-50?

The Universal Mobile Connector (UMC) that comes with the car is limited to 32A, so the car will never ask for more than 32A. I use the Tesla 6-50 adapter to the UMC every day without difficulty. Not being used for 5 years does not wear out or otherwise seriously affect the connector. Worst...

Can Tesla mobile charger gen 2 be used with j1772?

When my Son got a 2020 Bolt, I bought him a Tesla UMC and the adapter -- TeslaTap, I think. He uses that all the time with a Y on his dryer plug, being careful not to dry and charge at the same time. That adapter allows him to use Tesla destination chargers and to charge at my house on my UMC.

    When will you upgrade?

26K miles and now driving a lot more again. I really like it but my Mother (92) can't get out of it (so I have to drive her in her horrible Buick SUV) and my wife doesn't like getting out of it. I want a Model Y, with 4680 cells, structural pack and about 400 mile range. I would also like...

Over 70 here, cataracts done quite some time ago, bifocals for a long time. I am also a pilot and have always, as a result, set the bottom lenses to focus out to fully extended arms length -- the distance of the instrument panel in a plane. As a result, the TM3 screen is perfectly and...

Range differences with Pilot Sport All Season 4 or CrossClimate2 vs Primacy MXM4

I have never seen that bad and my tires have only about 1600 miles on them. In the last 2 days of 50 degF dry roads I have seen about 295 wh/mi for trips that (as I recall) are in the range of 260. That's less than 15%. My current observations are between 10% and 15% but it's not real data --...

Range differences with Pilot Sport All Season 4 or CrossClimate2 vs Primacy MXM4

2019 Mod3 with 18" wheels. I got 19.6K miles from the original tires. Late last year I replaced them with Pilot Sport All Season 4 which I like. I hope for only a 10% range reduction. So far it looks closer to 15% but: - I have less than 1.5K miles on the tires so they are still pretty new -...

Will I notice going from 19” to 18” wheels?

Bigger wheels = less efficiency and less range, primarily due to aerodynamic drag. The efficiency/range difference may or may not be important to you but it is significant and important to me.

    Regen Braking Question

If you leave your car plugged in (as Tesla recommends) overnight, you can turn on the inside heat 30 min or so before you leave using your phone app at breakfast. That also warms the battery and substantially reduces the grey dots (regen limits) -- and is warmer for you too.
