What would you choose?? M3 LR Decision Time!!

As always it depends on your use case. I’m commuting Into London a couple of days a week with a lot of driving time on EAP-enabled roads and am thinking of an upgrade to make life easier given it’s a 1.5 hour drive each way. But if you aren’t doing motorway miles you need to really like being...

How do you listen to music in your Tesla?

If I’m listening to music it’s normally Radio 6 on the DAB. Mostly I listen to podcasts on Spotify through my premium connectivity subscription. I used to listen off my phone, but I felt it was dangerous messing around opening it and searching when I’d finished my first one. Slight...

Stop calling Elon Musk "Elon". He's not your mate and you aren't related to him.

Meh. First name just shows a particular level of notoriety. Like Boris, or Maggie.

[Poll] M3 SR+ Heated Read Seats

I had no idea this was a thing until I saw your post, but I’ve just gone for it. I was a bit unsure at £300 but vaguely thinking about it. At £180 I think it’s reasonable for the utility. If they did the same discount on EAP I’d go for that too.

    Your Cars Name?

Roach, inspired by The Witcher. Next one will be the same.

    Clipped a curb this week

I clipped mine for the first time within an hour of delivery, having never done that before. Agree with the others - leave getting it fixed until it’s time for the car to go back, then get a professional to do it.

How many people pay for Premium Connectivity?

I started subscribing a couple of months ago. I’m now doing a four hour or so round trip once or twice a week and listen to a lot of podcasts. I felt trying to move on to the next after one finished using my phone was just too unsafe. Having the satellite view is a nice bonus.

    Auto-Pilot - I give up, it's downright lethal

the phantom breaking seems to be a lot worse with the latest update or two. I’ve never really had an issue before, but recently have had a couple of instances of the car slamming the breaks on when it sees cars stopped and waiting to turn onto the road I am on. I’ve also seen left turning being...

    FSD subscription [contains fake screenshots]

Interesting pricing. At £200/month I wouldn’t spring for it in a million years. even EAP at £100 is too much to be sensible.

Who is getting this low frequency rumbling with the M3? Is it the Heat pump or something else? Poll

I get this too, on my 2021 SR+. It sounds like it comes from the back of the car too me though, and I wondered if it might be motor connected. It never happened on my old company car which was an LR.
  11. M

    2019 LR or 2021 SR+

I actually had a 2019LR on lease in my last job, and bought a 2021 SR+ when I moved to my current one. The SR+ is great, of course, but I do miss the 4 wheel drive, acceleration and extra range. On balance I’d rather have the older LR, but there weren’t any available when I bought my current car.

Poll - 14 day EAP trial!

I quite like EAP, but don’t do enough motorway miles to justify spending 3.5k on it. I’d subscribe for a reasonable price, which probably in the region of £30/month or me.
  13. M

    EAP [enhanced autopilot] is back

I’m kind of tempted, as I’m planning to drive most of the way to work on the occasions I go in once we are allowed back, but £3.4K is a lot of money in one lump and I think they are going to move to a SaaS model which is likely to be much more cash-flow effective.
  14. M

FSD Free trial for 12 weeks

It definitely isn’t. I ordered from stock and had to wait three weeks for the boat to turn up.
  15. M

48.26 UI Changes - thumbs up or down?

Mostly I like it, except for keys info like speed being on the far right of the screen and pretty small. Makes it hard to see, and I feel like I’m peering over my left hand which almost but not quite blocks my view of it.
  16. M

London TfL Congestion Charge / AutoPay

If it’s a one off just paying is easiest, and it takes up to 10 days to process the discount so you are too late to apply now anyway. @ParHunter, you could try asking your lease company for a copy of the V5. Mine let me have one and the discount went through fine.

    Bad luck [kerbing alloys]

I think a lot of this comes from the tyres on a Model 3 with Aeros. In a lot of cars the rubber would extend beyond the wheel and take a minor scrape, but the Aeros seem to be inline with or even slightly protrude beyond the rubber.

    [UK] 2020.48.x

I got it overnight. 2021 SR+ no FSD

Features we didn't know we wanted?

I don’t think that can be right. A friend gave me a lift in his Range Rover about a month ago and he was getting camera warnings. Plus you get them on google maps, waze and the like.
  20. M

Did supercharger network influence your buying decision

Definitely. I rarely do really long distances but knowing that there will be working fast chargers on route was crucial. Particularly given many non-Tesla chargers seem to spend most of their time broken. There are four public 7kw chargers in my village and it’s rare for more than one of them...

Alloy Refurb and jacking car up

I had mine refurbed and the guy didn’t even need to jack it up. Width of the tyre gave him enough room to work I guess.
  22. M

Features we didn't know we wanted?

Well they would. If they said it would be more cost effective to subscribe there would be a big drop in sales of FSD. For a long time when it was unprofitable every penny counted and cash in, even if booked as profit, made a huge difference. Anyway, I’m not saying they will sell a subscription...
  23. M

Features we didn't know we wanted?

yes, but this is software. The price of development is fixed, and the question for the developer is how to balance subscriptions and price for maximum return. If they get three subscribers for FSD at £75/month they are better off than one at the£200/month which has been talked about. And I...
  24. M

Features we didn't know we wanted?

It depends. I’d probably go for £30/month for enhanced autopilot and maybe £75 for proper FSD.
  25. M

Features we didn't know we wanted?

Enhanced Autopilot / FSD on SaaS would be amazing. I’d definitely pay a sensible monthly fee for either.
  26. M

    Enhanced Autopilot (EAP)

I used to have the two lane issue as well, but it’s been a lot better on the last couple of software updates. Pretty reliably picks a lane now.
  27. M

    Enhanced Autopilot (EAP)

I don’t think current owners would see a change, only new ones.
  28. M

    Enhanced Autopilot (EAP)

I was thinking of it moving to an “enhanced autopilot” package, as suggested by the screen grabs above.

Car adjusting speed for Speed Limits ?

Mine M3LR with FSD will slow down and speed up as the limit changes (albeit some distance after for both) on autopilot but won’t change speed on NOA even if it knows the limit has reduced (eg on the 50mph limit motorway from the M25 to Blackwall Tunnel).
  30. M

    Enhanced Autopilot (EAP)

Honestly I think that all of these software things are going to turn into a SaaS product as soon as they work properly. It’s way easier to get people to pony up a cancelable £100/month than seven grand as a lump sum. Slightly concerned about the possibility of TACC leaving the base autopilot...

Price difference for stock car M3 with tow attachment

Looking on the Tesla website, it seems that buying a stock car with tow costs £2k more than the base price, rather than £1k for a custom order. Is this normal? I was thinking about picking up a car from stock but if it’s an extra grand for the tow I might just order and wait.

Thanks. In England unfortunately, so that’s not an option for me.

    Alternatives to Tesla finance

I wondered if anyone had any experience of PCP providers for Tesla’s other than Black Horse / Tesla itself? I’ve had a google, but most of the options which come up seem to be leasing rather than PCP.

    Current M3 Lead Time?

Does anyone have recent experience of whether getting the tow hitch is still leading to big delays in delivery? I’m changing jobs, so have to give my leased M3 back and am hoping to persuade my wife to let me buy a replacement.

    [UK] 2020.32.x

I’ve just downloaded 2020.32.3 as well. Model 3LR with FSD. Nothing too exciting In the notes, just the unlocked door/window notification and close windows on lock option.

    Dartford Delivery experiences

I picked up last October. There was a lot of hanging around and it wasn’t clear what was happening/when delivery would take place or even who to let know I’d arrived, but once the handover started it was fine. Demo didn’t really add anything to the videos I’d watched online, but they gave me...

    Self Park / Park Assist

In fairness the self-parking is so hopeless you don’t really have it even with FSD. I think it’s worked properly once in 9 months for me. Tech specs require a 10ft wide space for reverse parking and I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of those!

Long drive on Navigate on Autopilot

I find it best to hold the bottom right corner of the wheel and rest my arm on my leg. I hardly had any nags yesterday using that approach
  39. M

Long drive on Navigate on Autopilot

I did circa 150 miles mostly using NoA yesterday, include the motorways from the M25 to the Blackwall tunnel and out to the M11 on the other side as something was happening at the Dartford Bridge. Mostly it was a really solid experience, and in particular I was impressed that when a lane split...

    Scuff marks inside drivers door

Hi I’ve got a fair few scuff marks on the plastic on the inside of the drivers door, I think because of catching it with my foot when the door can’t be fully opened. I wondered if there are any products which are good to remove them? All advice gratefully received (except the one about being...

Seconding the pod point - cheap and reliable. I also like that you can easily wrap the cable around it to keep things tidy.

Elon Says Level 5 by the end of the year....

Ahaha haha haha. The mention of roundabouts on the FSD summary is still missing in action. And the damn thing can’t even really park itself. Maybe, maybe L3 over the next couple of years, but something that can take the kids to school and then drive itself home is a loooooong way away.

    FSD Price increase in UK

Also, auto park doesn’t even work properly! It needs a 10ft wide space according to the manual (good luck finding one of those) and if it does pick up a narrower space for some reason it’s incredibly slow and normally stops with the nose a foot outside the line so you have to manually reverse...
  44. M

FSD - Change lane without NOA

I find auto lane change doesn’t work at all except on NoA, even with FSD. Quite annoying as there is a 10 mile stretch of dual carriageway near me I often drive, but NoA doesn’t kick in until just after my turnoff.

    Model 3 Jacking Puck

Hi, Does anyone know if Tesla actually sell jacking pucks in the UK? I can’t see them in the online shop. I’m a bit reluctant to buy a cheap one from Amazon, but getting an Abstract Ocean one from the US would be the best part of $50 with sensible shipping.
  46. M

    Phone unlocking - slow

I had the same issue yesterday when I went out to collect a take away. Was fine at the house, but when I returned to the car with my pizzas it wouldn’t unlock until I unlocked my iPhone. Currently running 2020.20.12

Rear passenger side window opening/venting slightly?

It’s happened to me a couple of times but not regularly. Bit concerning, and has left me with a damp interior.
  48. M

FSD "may" come out as a subscription service?

It’s an interesting question. Elon said that buying it outright as an option should be cheaper, which would imply north of £160 a month based on a three year ownership pattern. But you’d need to use it a lot to justify that spend.
  49. M

    Premium Connectivity Model 3 SR+

Definitely. I’d pay a bit for satellite maps and traffic visualisation, but don’t care about the other things. A tenner a month is a bit much for what I’d use.

    Tow hitch bike racks

Moderator comment - thread merged from "Bike Racks" Can anyone recommend a good tow-hitch mounted bike rack for the M3, ideally one which can carry three bikes? It might seem a bit optimistic now, but I’m planning to take the kids out for a few decent rides once lockdown has been relaxed...
