You can switch from FSD to Autopilot while driving if FSD is not active (I have done it a couple of times when I got frustrated). You need to put the car in park to go back in the other direction.

This is not correct: it was not activated without the driver's consent. Just like those nifty Terms & Conditions one clicks OK to when installing/updating software on your computer, one must acknowledge that it is okay to activate FSD.
