    Model 3 car cover recommendations

Been meaning to say thanks for the good info. Turns out I should be able to leave the car in the garage after all. So holding off on the cover for now.

    New Zealand Road Trips

Last year we took a five week relatively unplanned road trip from Auckland ending up in Bluff and lots in-between of course. Mostly South Island. No issue with finding chargers anywhere we needed. The only place we worried we might have a problem was Wanaka to Franz Josef over Haast Pass and...

    Model 3 car cover recommendations

Anyone bought a car cover for their model 3 they like? We're heading away for awhile this winter and the car has to stay outside. Thought I'd look into covers. Was thinking of this one... any experience? Alternatives...

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

Software updates come when they come. People get all fired up about them having to wait or whatever. But just relax and they happen. I've had my car for 2.5 years and still love it. Over that time an average of about 2 weeks between updates. Many minor ones, some big ones, and lots of new...

Is it ok for other makes to use a Tesla supercharger?

They were plugged into the CCS cable. Couldn't tell if they were charging but assumed they were. No real reason they needed the parking space as it was Sunday and there are hundreds of free spaces around it.

Is it ok for other makes to use a Tesla supercharger?

So how does this work? Saw it yesterday at Whangarei. I thought the SC communicated with the car. Does Tesla open up its superchargers to other cars in NZ? And how does that owner pay or are we subsidising them? Or maybe the owner saw the EV charging sign on the side of the road and thought it...

    zipcharge yay or nay

Now that makes sense. I hadn't thought about it that way

    zipcharge yay or nay

Yeah, I came across this and thought the same thing. To keep it even remotely handleable it doesn't have much capacity either. Seems like a solution in search of a problem to me.

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

getting off topic, but I got a streamer for home a few months ago and that's what got me interested in Tidal. Enjoy...

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

BTW: have you tried Tidal? I've had a Tidal HiFi subscription for awhile and it sounds great in the car. Much better sounding than Spotify in my opinion. They've got a $2 trial going... give it a try if you haven't already

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

Maybe I'm a change addict, but I quite like v11. Took a little playing around to get the hang of where things had moved and we just got back from a long drive which helped. It's fresher and more modern looking, especially in dark mode, and being able to customise the app area for each driver is...

Vector EV charging app for Android gone??

Might be the version of android you have. I've got Android 11 and it's still working on my phone
  13. J

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

could it be poor connection from the car? I've seen a few failures like that recently with other functions when the car doesn't have good coverage. seems the new version of the app doesn't handle it as well. funny errors and reverted settings

    TeslaMate Super Thread

Me too. Followed those instuctions with just a few tweaks and was running it on AWS but sometime ago Tesla started blocking AWS, GCP, etc They probably don't do that anymore but at that time I just moved it to a tiny server I have sitting around at home. Essentially same setup for that and I...

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

point updates have always (or at least since I got my car over 2 years ago) been this way. I don't recall any that release changes and they have the same release notes as prior point releases. that's the way most software dev works that I'm familiar with but it would be nice if they published a...

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

Be calm...it's common for all software companies to roll out updates in stages. Sometimes by config, sometimes geographical and sometimes a mystery

    Tesla app for Android

yeah, the widget doesn't interact yet but I like it so I don't have to open the app and wait for it to connect to the car to see battery %, whether it is locked and if sentry is on. I think the value it shows is last time you were in or near the car but not sure on that.
  18. J

    Tesla app for Android

Actually the buttons (unlock, open frunk, trunk) when you swipe down on the notification have been there for a long time. The widgets are new though
  19. J

    Tesla app for Android

yeah, thats's right. Widgets weren't in 4.1. I confirmed I was wrong about the schedule. You can adjust regardless of being plugged in.

    Tesla app for Android

I thought so but now I'm not certain. Will give it a try tomorrow. Also I just noticed I had 4.1 and so downloaded 4.2 now

    Tesla app for Android

I've got 2021.36 and I like the way the app handles scheduled charging. I think it's easier to understand than what's in the car although the function is the same. You can do scheduled charge or scheduled departure and switch on/off preconditioning and low cost periods/weekends. The car has to...

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

I suppose you might get this to work if you are streaming over Wifi but not on LTE. And RHD is a config setting in the car, among a great many, that you can't change. I know this from the leaked access to internal diagnostics a few updates ago nd I went and had a peek to quell my curiosity. BTW...

Tesla Model 3 Delivery day - New Zealand - 2021 model - experiance

I agree. Before that came out I wrote a little app that used the Tesla API and sent a push notification to my phone if car was parked and doors or trunk/frunk was open. It worked pretty well but I decommissioned it when it became a feature of the car

Tesla Model 3 Delivery day - New Zealand - 2021 model - experiance

Yeah, congrats on the new car. I hope you enjoy it as much we've enjoyed ours

Model 3 early NZ adopters feedback

I didn't do either when we got it because I figured it's just a car and I never did any of that before. After we got back from the road trip (car was about a 18 mos old) I took it to get it's first, and only so far, professional detail. After all the rough roads, zillions of squished bugs, etc...

Model 3 early NZ adopters feedback

We've had ours for 2 years too and still look for reasons to go for a drive. Lockdown has only been a problem because I can't drive my car. 🥲And I still grin every time I do drive it. Last summer we did a 6k km 5 week road trip that was fantastic. Can't wait to do it again. No significant...

    Yet another bug fix update

People complain about releases that introduce bugs and complain about releases that fix bugs. Maybe it's a good thing to have an extended period of bug fixing before releasing new stuff

    K-Road Supercharger

And if you are heading further north, the supercharger in Whangerei is really easy in/out. You don't even have to back in 🙂

    K-Road Supercharger

Vector 50kw chargers are free (still I think). There's one on Hobson just south of Fanshawe if that's near where you will be

Yeah, shout out from me too. Thanks Navak! I've got both a gen1 & gen2. Both are awesome and great solutions. Once you make more let us know so we can pass the word around.

Could "Smart Shift" be a software update to old cars?

Not too long ago I had a VW car and Toyota van and they had their wipers and turn signals on opposite sides. I was always in one or the other and the wipers would come on whenever I was making a turn or changing lanes 🤔

    Speedometer Accuracy?

GPS dynamic speed accuracy varies depending on several factors including antenna type and location. UBLOX (common automotive GPS chip maker although I don't know if Tesla uses them) indicates real-world dynamic speed accuracy 68% of the time between 0.1m/s and 0.8m/s which is 0.22mph to 1.79mph...

Phantom Braking vs TACC in Late 2020

Just got back from a 5800km road trip with nearly all on 2 lane narrow and winding roads. Used TACC a lot of the time. Had a few unexpected slow downs (not jamming hard on the brakes though) and each was related to coming up to the top of a blind hill with a truck in the oncoming lane. Something...

Recommendation for detailing and windscreen repair in Auckland?

We just got home from a 5 week 5900km road trip around NZ (nearly all on the South Island). What a great trip in an EV. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and really sorry to end the trip. But with all the gravel and dirt roads we went on the car needs a good detail in and out. Anyone have a...

    Strange visualization tonight.

I've had the same thing happen once. Started the car and whenever it was moving I had this visualization. When I stopped the red proximity arcs disappeared and then reappeared as soon as I moved again. Nothing else in the visualization as you can see below. I finished driving and after getting...

    Anyone using Homelink in NZ?

Thanks and good to hear it's possible. I've got a 1/2 wavelength wire as an antenna on it now and only need it to open when the car is pointed at it as it closes on a timer. When you get back, if you can post a photo that would be appreciated. Enjoy the rest of your holiday (we're away too)

    Anyone using Homelink in NZ?

I bought one of these to use Homelink on an existing opener: HomeLink Receiver – 2 Channel – Tessories The unit works and the transmitter that came with it works well with plenty of range. But Homelink only works sometimes (maybe 50%) and only from very short range (a couple metres). Homelink...

Tesla Software Updates for Model 3 New Zealand

I agree, the reduced map size makes no sense to me and is very disappointing. The visualisation area is now just too large with most often just empty space. New car angle looks nice but takes up more space and has same ability to open frunk/trunk/charge port. I don't mind the symbols down the...

Phantom Braking vs TACC in Late 2020

I don't have any significant issues with these things. Rain sensor works well for me. Every now and then I need to press the button on the stalk but generally only when it is barely raining. I use TACC frequently on the highway and it's been fantastic for me, especially when stuck in traffic...

    Auto profile selection chooses incorrectly

I agree. Too many people with the same problem. Anyway, I've got a service appt for something else in a week and added this to the list. Not expecting a fix but maybe it will raise the issue

HPWC is no longer incuded ?

weird... how do you guys get to the NZ Tesla shop? When I goto my account it isn't there. I select manage my car and hit back and a shop link appears for a few seconds. But clicking on that takes me to the US store

How many Tesla's in New Zealand

Just guessing but perhaps Audi is paying for these product placements? Tesla of course wouldn't be paying
  45. J

    Auto profile selection chooses incorrectly

Yes. It was mostly wrong before but not always. Now it's consistent and predictable. And since I drive most of the time it's probably better this way for us until it gets fixed
  46. J

    Auto profile selection chooses incorrectly

Let us know how that goes. Sounds encouraging. I'll give that a try too
  47. J

    Auto profile selection chooses incorrectly

I've given up and finally done what was suggested by Anubis in this thread... I switched my wife's phone to my profile. Most times, I drive so optimising for that case. But it means she will always have to manually select her profile. However, it is wrong so often we were both doing that most...

    Auto profile selection chooses incorrectly

got 2020.40.4 today and confirm it makes no difference for this issue
  49. J

    Auto profile selection chooses incorrectly

Sigh.... I was hoping this update might be a good workaround. I also talked to the mobile service tech in October or November of last year. It was first he heard of it, but said it sounded like a bug and he would report it. So maybe it's made its way onto a bug list somewhere.

    Auto profile selection chooses incorrectly

Still same for us too. But there might be hope... I read that 2020.40.3 has "Priority Bluetooth Device" and maybe that will work for profile selection too. But haven't received this update yet to confirm. 2020.40.3 Official Tesla Release Notes - Tesla Software Updates
