    autopilotAutosteer STRIKES RULES???

This strike system is garbage. Its sealed the deal, no more teslas for me. It if can't detect that I'm holding the wheel, what is the point of it?

Model 3 poll - have you changed battery

No, next time I'll drive for an hour to an SC to get one - except next time I probably won't still have the car.

"Proactive" 12v battery replacement - good idea or overkill?

According to mobile service, the 12V configuration change is not enabled in the UK, so we are stuck with Tesla supplied Atlas batteries. At least I only paid £108 including fitting. (plus having now a spare Bosch battery, which I suppose I can use on the lawn mower at a push)

Model 3 poll - have you changed battery

Update, the battery type selection might not be available on UK vehicles (according to mobile tech), so the only option is the Atlas battery (or equivalent with ~600 CCA - mobile tech wasn't very helpful there). Somehow my estimate is now £108, which is not too bad (but I have a spare Bosch...

Model 3 poll - have you changed battery

Similar game here, only I will be driving to Toulouse in a couple of weeks so I accepted the £212 quote. Waiting for mobile service to turn up (since 7:30)

Model 3 poll - have you changed battery

So they want to charge me £70 for a new battery, and £100 labour to fit it.... They seem to believe that they can operate a monopoly on battery supply, and that a contract negotiated in this way is binding.

Model 3 poll - have you changed battery

Mine gave the same. I requested a remote re-configuration of the battery type, and had these added to my request:

Model 3 poll - have you changed battery

I reset mine, charged the battery and put it back - faults came back within hours. I think there is a periodic on-load test of the 12V, which might also depend on the state-of-charge of the battery. Back on the old battery for now (no faults so far). It makes sense that any testing is marginal...

    Run-away I-PACE, really?

No links, except the presentation I linked earlier. A broken software path is sufficient, demonstrating it is not a necessary step from my point of view. The software is closed making reverse engineering and injecting ram faults kind of tricky. We know that logic faults occur in CPUs, people put...

Model 3 poll - have you changed battery

I fitted a Bosch battery about 2 weeks ago and got a battery failure warning on Friday. Disconnecting the LV (after disconnecting the battery first) and re-connecting it has cleared the faults, but I still can't change the battery type (its set on Atlas, I think the Bosch matches the Clarion...

    Run-away I-PACE, really?

You didn't understand the Toyota situation then. Sensors were fine, but the software stopped checking the sensor information, and the failsafe didn't work. Pulling the handbrake is assumed to have been a workaround, this should have triggered an independant failsafe, but nobody would expect...

Error message on screen - should I be worried

I put in a service request since the car won't accept a change of 12V battery type, Tesla added replacement of the front harness (water ingress) and the one in the boot (camera, I believe there was a recall on this). No cost information yet since I am out of warranty.

"Proactive" 12v battery replacement - good idea or overkill?

Service booked for two wiring loom fixes - even after clearing all the faults it would't accept the configuration change.
  15. T

"Proactive" 12v battery replacement - good idea or overkill?

The two fault notifications are just that the battery is no good. I wonder if this in itself locks out the configuration change because a reboot might not be survivable. Will try and swap in a nice hot 13.6V battery to clear them tomorrow, otherwise I think I might need a remote diagnostic.

"Proactive" 12v battery replacement - good idea or overkill?

I got into service mode fine, and unlocked the gateway, but the change type request fails. I'm struggling to find any reference to the error: Failed to update twelveVBatteryType configuration` There are currently two battery faults set - I wonder if I need to put the old non-failed battery back...

Error message on screen - should I be worried

I also had this, but I assumed it was due to a 12V battery issue (replaced with a Bosch battery 2 weeks ago, and the car has decided it won't hold charge).

    Residuals / Depreciation

I was looking at Autotrader, since I will need to swap my '19 model 3 for a french registered vehicle in ~1 year, and £20k seemed reasonable for mine with 40k miles now.

"Proactive" 12v battery replacement - good idea or overkill?

Just another datapoint. Replaced (with no warning) the battery in my UK '19 model 3 with a Bosch 158 (£80) I think 2 weeks ago, since I have a long trip coming up. Warning yesterday about scheduling a service appointment, and lots of warnings this morning about sensors (which makes me think the...

    Uk plug charging now 13amps?

The current limit will probably be determined by the sense resistor in the cable, and the UMC firmware. I think it unlikely that the car can update the UMC firmware (or even that the car knows it is a Tesla UMC which it is connected to).

Auto Express Interview with Moto Chief Executive

Our office is in the process of installing about 20 7kW chargers (for ~3000 staff, many of whom walk or cycle to work) which will go a long way towards providing an option for those who don't have their own off-street parking at home. It will be cheaper than public DC rates so should also remove...

Auto Express Interview with Moto Chief Executive

I use 12 hours of rapid charging in a year (mostly in Europe, so a massive over-estimate for UK typical trips). That is (roughly) one rapid per 1000 vehicles? at 10,000,000 EVs on the road, it makes 10,000 rapids total. However, if I look at my UK supercharging, it comes to 2 hours a year and...

Route planners with waypoints and battery level thresholds?

Of course, it is working now (after re-linking my car), and has some pricing data which I hadn't noticed before (although not up-to-date, I think). Will test it out in anger next week.
  26. T

Route planners with waypoints and battery level thresholds?

Is ABRP still the only option? I'm getting super frustrated by it being mostly broken in different ways every time I try to use it (the UI was never intuitive, so maybe I'm just using it wrong). Departure time, SoC, live data, all not behaving as I'd expect... Annoying since one of my frequent...

Model 3 poll - have you changed battery

Surely a better question for the 3 year plus cohort is when you plan to change the battery if you are keeping the car. I still have warranty till November, so I guess I will change my 12V before the winter trip to France (i.e. at ~4 years).

Advice On Granny Charger For Use In France

I have a Tough Leads Schuko to Comando adaptor, 10 or 15m of Comando extension and the UMC comando adaptor (which came with the car when I bought it). Also a Comando to Sucho from a DIY store in France just in case I need to press it into service for domestic use. Also a 13A to comando to use in...

    Question for Solar Charging Guru's

Disappointing news about the installers since I was also planning to install solar in the south of France. I suspect that unless you can find value in most of the generated electricity (car, house or export), you won't have a very cost effective solution (although I don't know what prices are...

[UK] Hands free (Level 2) driving has arrived

This behaviour seems quite predictable, and isn't something I find particularly problematic to work around. The reduced workload on a long journey is a real benefit, I'm less convinced that AP would safely bring the car to a stop if I passed out whilst driving. I do find the 'hands on' detection...

Instant impression plants next to charging wiring

Even the pyracantha that I planted in the ground struggled with the lack of water last year. This one looks quite big for being in a pot. Cut away the worst of the dead bits, it may still recover.

    Possible BP Pulse scam

What is to prevent some malicious person from sending out the same email (since the text is now public) to steal people's banking credentials (since EV drivers are high value targets). If you don't see a problem, you should re-take your corporate cyber-security training.
  34. T

    Possible BP Pulse scam

Just received an email from (not checked the headers but) BP pulse. SMS with a link to sign a document digitally will follow. Smells bad to me, although it looks kind of genuine. Just flagging here because nobody should ever do what they are asking.

    fantasy charging system

Batteries are pretty good for scaling. It seems like almost everything else is quite bad. Maybe there is a way of storing low quality heat, extending the thermal mass of the building into the subsoil (the traditional name I can't find now, and from Wikipedia it seems maybe not all that efficient...

2 EV Household - what else you got?

Fiat 500 as a learner's car (nor passed, so we no longer need to supervise the driving to and from work), i10 to complete the set. Taking gears out of the equation for learning seem to have made a big difference. Not just for the task loading coming up to junctions but also removing the...

    Bonnet now has IONITY

Except that we also have 35-45kW sort of charge (labelled 50kW), and many vehicles which max out at this sort rate too. The supermarket sort of rate where a supercharger would make for a rather rushed trip (e.g. Le Mans SC). Based on my recent trips to France, even 11kW is usable as a 'whilst...

    Bonnet now has IONITY

This is basically how investment works. A large proportion of ideas fail, the winners need to win big enough to offset the downside of the failures. As a consumer, there is no clear benefit of being an early adopter. For european trips, I can see some advantage to an additional PAYG network...

    12 volt battery insurance/backup plan

I think the issue is that the window between this message being triggered and complete failure is sometimes around a day. I'm tending to think more along the lines of preemptive replacement though since the cost is probably 1 year in 4 of the replacement battery (with the added hassle of...

    Bonnet now has IONITY

My ABRP strategy so far has been to blacklist the expensive networks - seems Bonnet might break that strategy. In practice, it seems to be either Superchargers are suitable, or there is no choice (depending on route).

Tesla open up the SuC network [in UK]

possible first time long distance + wrong side of the road. Tips? Mad?

Yes, had one, plus a 10M extension, but parking was in a layby down the road. Schuko was used when we had to share a borne with someone else, and it only offered one each of type 2 and type 3 (or Schuko on each side). 3rd party RFID tags are all very well, but only when the provider networks...

possible first time long distance + wrong side of the road. Tips? Mad?

I wasn't expecting superchargers to be off the motorways (although I should really have anticipated this. Typically they were at hotels and not too far from a junction). Twice, I think, we got caught out by the navigation being a little pessimistic and throwing in an extra stop (which could be...

    Third party charging in France

What's the current recommendations for cards in France? I have a Schuko/comando adaptor, just need something for the non-supercharger points. Kind of hoping that contactless card works on the rapids now, but will I need an RFID for the more remote areas? Destination this time is Genolhac if...

    SMET2 meters

+1 on the nonsense above being FUD. I have the 'gas can't talk to electric' problem, and with EDF on their EV tariff this means no remote reading (due to their software thinking smart is all or nothing on that smart only tariff). Will see what happens back on standard rate next month... The...

Solar Panels UK - is it worth it?

I calculated my 4kW system saves about £500 pa at the rate I was offered a fix last week. Including FIT at the current rates would make for about £800, I think - so probably worthwhile even neglecting any 'free' charging which I could get if I wanted to chase the days with clear skies. All too...

Non-Tesla recommendations for 2nd cheaper EV

Wireless android auto works on the 500 from my phone (Oneplus 8T), but none of the other phones in the family - we have a screen in the car, but no satnav. Non-Tesla recommendations for 2nd cheaper EV

We ended up getting a Fiat 500, and it seems pretty good - except for the software. Numerous early bugs, which is expected, but we're still waiting to actually get an update done. Dealer had the car for a week, failed to update - but still charged £20 per day for insurance on their loan car...
