The wiring for your 2022 Model S does look entirely different. I just logged into service.tesla.com and I can see that the electrical diagrams are totally different for 2021+. Perhaps you can log in and look at those diagrams for more information. I know they are difficult to follow though.

I personally prefer to keep the trailer wires in the trunk to keep it out of the weather and avoid corroding the connector. It also saves having to drill holes to the outside of the car. The liftgate seal is soft enough that it doesn't damage the wiring.

The liftgate module on mine (2015 85D) was just behind the wheel well on the right side under the carpet liner. The 12V power wires were the thicker gauge ones and were coloured: I used quick connects to connect the wires as show in the image.

For the new x7201s, the bumper support and reinforcement is not reinstalled. It would not fit even if you tried. The older (and less strong) x7201 is designed to have it reinstalled on top like xxaarraa said.

@2022S-LR I don’t used a brake controller as my trailer has hydraulic surge brakes. I don’t know if the Model S has the same plug as the Model X but I would guess that it doesn’t. You can always install an aftermarket brake controller though.

This should work on your car. The refresh they are talking about is the new refresh in 2022 (not the old refresh in 2016). So pre-refresh for Torklift is the 2012-2021 models. The x7201s is definitely the better hitch to get. It is also stainless steel and won't rust.

This behaviour has been noted several times in this thread and other threads. You can solve it by using the "tail" wires from each side and making an AND gate with a relay. Or you can just keep the tail lights on while trailering. See my post on wiring here.
