    I had the same problem with my Tesla Mobile Connector. At first I replaced the GFCI receptacle with a regular one. Later I installed Tesla’s recommended home charging solution, a Wall Connector.

    For my Model Y Tesla mobile service did an “A/C Odor Removal (Using Evaporator Foam Cleaner, Replace Cabin Filters)”. The foam used was “ CLEANER, KOOL IT, 6 OZ(1512843-00-A)” Service was preformed on 12/14/2021. The bad smell has not returned.

    You can use the adapter that comes with your Tesla to connect that J1772 plug into your Model 3. Look on Plugshare to see if that charger is listed. If it is then you'll probably have the answers to your questions.

    I bought the Tesla NEMA Adapter Bundle. So far I have used the 5-20 and 14-50 adapters. Charging with the 5-20 is quite a bit faster than the 5-15 (although still not fast).
