    Opinions on two wheel designs?

Will be measuring clearances next week. The GVWR of this truck is a limiting factor on what design aspects can be manipulated...it's heavy AF.

    Opinions on two wheel designs?

They won't be deep on the CT. Also not going on my vehicles, seeking input on the designs themselves from CT owners/future owners for potential production. <edit> That specific image is a -35et and the CT is +58.5et so you're looking at about 90mm variation in depth between the photo and what...

    Opinions on two wheel designs?

These are not made yet, but wanted to get your opinions on the design. This is setup for a Jeep, so the offsets and center cap configuration are different than what they would be on a CT. With the CT specs, the face would be much more shallow than what is pictured. The center cap/hub would be...

2021 Model S Plaid Steering Yoke shaking at highway speeds

Some shops will do it if you ask. Just make sure if you have 19" and larger rotors they don't mount it in the path of the calipers 😂 ... already went through this.

    Tires for Plaid

They're usually cheap because the DOT date is older or the tire has hardened by sitting in a hot warehouse. Usually companies will not lower the price on tires for no reason. I am a fan of the Porsche spec 21" pzeros though. They're extremely soft and sticky but reduce range by a lot & wear...

Second Guessing Tire Purchase - Opinions?

Rolling resistance is sometimes gained by the manufacturer by reducing the depth of the tread/increasing stiffness, which in turn also reduces life of the tire. Don't get too caught up in the almost irrelevant technicalities.

Anyone Else Ordering New Tesla CCB Pads?

$600 for a set of pads is not bad. Heck the OEM pads are probably close to the same if not more.

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

Ok, will check back in when the official data is released and we get to watch what you say is impossible to do does happen.

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

On this point specifically, Tesla uses frequency to regulate motor torque. It's not torque being controlled via speed regulation. They have done this since the early 2000's...and not something most people are aware of.
  11. S

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

    Thanks for elaborating on this.
  12. S

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

I'm sure Tesla never thought about compensating RPM level when the frequency changes. Frequency has more effects on a motor than speed alone.
  13. S

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

The frequency the motor runs on. The HP output is clearly not maxed out, so when the operating frequency is changed, the power can go down and torque up or vice versa, however they want it to. Assuming it will be the same controller as used on the plaid, except mono.

Performance brakes on Long Range - What wheels?

Thanks I hadn't messed with them in a couple of years, but did remember there was a lip on something.

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

No use in arguing with them at this point. Not a single person in 2 years now that has installed aftermarket arms and got an alignment has had an issue, even though almost all of us did prior to that. The only people that are blaming Michelin are the ones still on the factory setup, 4 sets of...

Performance brakes on Long Range - What wheels?

You can use the 18" aero, just need to get the centerbore on the wheel machined to accept the ring around the rotors iirc.
  17. S

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

That type of wear is because of too much toe out and the inside of the tire being dragged/scrubbed on the road as it's moving. Camber isolates that issue to the specific strip you see in the pic. With 0 camber, the scrub would occur across the entire tire. So it's a combination of two...

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Not sure what's funny with that. I ripped all four compression and tension arm bushings on the front, and broke a camber arm on the rear because of an incorrect shop install, OEM toe arms held up fine, they were just changed for precaution because I flog on the car nonstop and we weren't sure...

Anyone Else Ordering New Tesla CCB Pads?

Are you still waiting on those tesla pads? I have a full set from a set of new red calipers I bought from Tesla I can sell you if so. I'm running unplugged lightweight ccb's and their race pads, so I have no use for the Tesla ones.
  20. S

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Toe arm bushings are stiff AF. They're different than the control arm bushings
  21. S

Plaid 21” rear tire woes - factory defect?

Factory toe arms are good and adjustable. I swapped mine out with UP ones solely because they were able to overnight a set to me when the car was down. OEM are pretty darn solid.

Think I found replacement lug nuts for the 21" wheels

And you also need to know the degree and length of taper so the surfaces mate as designed to do. Lug nuts have more to them beyond 1) do they thread on, and 2) will they fit in the cavity.

Model S Plaid Track Package Waiting Room

The ones I'm making are about as good as you can get without looking utilitarian. They'll be able to be pivoted around the grommet to go further out at the top or bottom, whichever area you need more protection from depending on the tire.

Dyno Results for Model S refresh LR?

Go hit it up, not many people with an LR want to go on the dyno. I'm personally interested to see what you put down. Would assume it's right on the advertised numbers since every other Tesla is, minus a random anomaly here and there.

Plaid rear tire wear - going after Michelin again - share your experiences?

This car is going toe out when you launch it. You can easily record the movement. Before I added rear camber arms, the flex was pretty bad under load. the 0.15 toe in I have is on a very stiff suspension and we kinda guesstimate it to end up at 0 or barely positive toe under load. It no...

Model S Plaid Track Package Waiting Room

There's not an excess amount of debris being picked up by a t2 tire. I'd be willing to bet $1k that he has not ran anything other than a t2 on his Tesla so he has absolutely nothing to compare it to. People like to make claims and not have any supporting evidence, then say it's the other...

Model S Plaid Track Package Waiting Room

Ok, you made the claim they are "extra sticky". What empirical evidence is used to make that determination? Because I have data that disproves your 'trust me bro' claims.
  30. S

Model S Plaid Track Package Waiting Room

Yes, it's as dependable of a test as you can do without having a lab analysis done. Durometers are what we use at the race track to gauge tire softness for whatever guidelines apply to that race. You're not going to find similar purpose tires that gauge at 90 that is more sticky than a tire...
  31. S

Model S Plaid Track Package Waiting Room

The composition of the tire compounds is detectable with a durometer. In your words, using a dumb stick test, going across the tread watching the levels on the meter change. I can easily prove your statement about t2's being "extra sticky" completely false, with ease. The reason the T spec...

Plaid rear tire wear - going after Michelin again - share your experiences?

I just asked one of the guys at my shop how they done that perfect alignment and he suggested that they should apply to work for a formula 1 team because he's never seen it either. This was from late last year, I changed it a bit in January, but it's mostly the same on the rear. I like the...

Plaid rear tire wear - going after Michelin again - share your experiences?

This is the first time I have seen a perfectly matched alignment down to the hundredth of a degree between both sides on almost every measurement. Personally, no matter the shop that did this, I'd have to call those results into question.
  34. S

Model S Plaid Track Package Waiting Room

Not really sure where you're going with that statement. You claim I don't know what I was talking about about, even though I have used equipment to measure all three variations of the Tesla spec PS4S. Additionally, I've measured T0 spec PSS for the front (the tire profile I prefer over PS4S)...
  35. S

Plaid rear tire wear - going after Michelin again - share your experiences?

You don't necessarily need these. I have the unplugged camber arms, but the issue is because of too much toe out, not camber. So an alignment by a reputable shop, not Tesla, will most likely fix the problem.
  36. S

Model S Plaid Track Package Waiting Room

It's not difficult, buy a durometer and press it on the tires. Your conjecture definitely trumps my actual testing and knowledge. I also probably don't keep stacks of spares at the house of various t2, t1, white label PS4S or t spec pss laying around either...so what would I know?
  37. S

Model S Plaid Track Package Waiting Room

The Tesla mudflaps help, but they're ugly as hell and they're so long they scrap the ground when you hit bumps at speed on the highway
  38. S

Model S Plaid Track Package Waiting Room

The T2's are no softer than T0 or T1. I have measured all of them with a durometer personally. There may be variations in where the different bands of compounds run, but not by much.
  39. S

Model S Plaid Track Package Waiting Room

I'm working on a solution for this; currently designing an extended carbon fiber mudflap. This is an outline of the ones I have now, am extending the bottom part down another 1/2" and see if that helps. If not I'll do a new one and add another 1/2" or change the corner design. Should be...

Plaid rear tire wear - going after Michelin again - share your experiences?

Probably "within spec" is what he was told. Assuming. Interested to see if he went to a performance shop and they fixed the horrendous factory tolerances. Practically impossible to go through 4 sets of tires and have the same issue and it be the tires' fault. Better chance of winning the...

Model S Plaid Track Package Waiting Room

@MuppetOwl This is the one for those 18". Something like this is what you want from them, you cut along the lines and you have the physical layout of the specific wheel design you want. Green line is recommended caliper clearance once you get outward from the hub.

Model S Plaid Track Package Waiting Room

When I make a set of wheels for someone, I send them a 1:1 printable schematic so they can verify tolerances. The printouts come with different colored lines for the various options I can do on the spoke clearance and barrel design. I recently used this to try to manipulate a set of 18" to fit...

    Plaid 19 vs 21

It takes about 90% of a 1/2 mile run to speed up tp 175, I've done it a bunch. Then you need more than a 1/4 mile on top of that to get stopped. Even if you started at 60-70mph and slowed back down to 60-70mph, you're not doing that in 0.6 miles.

    Highland top speed reduced…

Few things, then I'm bailing on this one Thanks for finally agreeing with me that controllers manipulate power draw by suggesting that we use the controller to limit stall current on an electric motor, since that is the point at which almost every electric motor on the planet draws the most...

    Highland top speed reduced…

Incorrect yet again. I posted that video because I'm involved. I have boxes of burned up motors ranging from 10hp to 50hp. Controllers, and every other supporting part included as they melt coming backwards out of the motor because of being at stall current levels for too long. Serious...

    Highland top speed reduced…

It has to do with what you keep saying is irrelevant. Stall current caused this fire when the weapon stopped and the motor was still attempting to spin at full power but could not. It's actually pretty simple and any mediocre engineer could deduce if they have experience with electric motors.
