Just come across the phantom braking issue, considering canceling my order

Your research and analysis has been spot on - great work by the way. I recently wrote an article on my experience with autopilot. I wasn't sure exactly what the reasons were but I had my guesses - they were exactly the three scenarios that you pointed out. However, I would add that it wasn't...

Anyone else having trouble with Traffic-Aware Cruise Control?

Wise choice - I am jealous. I wish I had never updated my software. I've lost all the great functionality of autopilot in a single update.

Anyone else having trouble with Traffic-Aware Cruise Control?

You're absolutely right about the situations where it happens. However, this didn't happen when radar was used. So we've basically lost functionality. That too in situations where autopilot is most needed - roadtrips outside the city.

Anyone else having trouble with Traffic-Aware Cruise Control?

If you're driving mostly in the city, you won't have this issue. This typically happens when: 1) No cars in front of you, and 2) Direct Sun. Go on a roadtrip outside the city and see if you feel the same way.

Why I am losing faith in Tesla’s Autopilot (Autosteer)

This is definitely not a hardware issue. It was so obvious that it was right after I updated the software and that specific update was transitioning my car off radar (which I didn't know until later). If you do a search online (TeslaMotorsClub, Reddit) you will see that many people have faced...

Why I am losing faith in Tesla’s Autopilot (Autosteer)

Has to be the version I'm on currently (2022.28.2) which was released September 2022. Since then I'm so scared to update my car software. I'm like - what are they going to f*** up next? I'm so careful now that I wait to view YouTube reviews of all the software updates to see what the...

Anyone else having trouble with Traffic-Aware Cruise Control?

Tesla's decision to disable radar on existing vehicles and remove it from new one's was one of the worst decisions they could make. That's the sole reason for why the traffic-aware cruise control is now trash. A vehicle from the 80's would have better cruise control than what's available on...

Why I am losing faith in Tesla’s Autopilot (Autosteer)

I absolutely love my Model 3. I have had it for just over 3 years now and enjoyed driving every mile of the 42,000 miles that I have clocked till today. Most of the mileage has been on the highway and the remainder was miles that I racked up while commuting for work before the pandemic. When I...

Just come across the phantom braking issue, considering canceling my order

I had a very bad experience with autopilot (2019 M3) after Tesla switched off radar this late summer. You hit the nail on the head and did great research with the 3 things you pointed out, but that doesn't mean its a corner case. Those 3 conditions are very common when you take a road trip. Yes...

    v11 software update SUCKS

The map directions on the autopilot screen (when the main map is hidden) have been moved from the top of the screen to the bottom. So if a passenger is searching for a song, the directions get covered now by the keyboard. This is what happens when user experience design decisions are left purely...

    18" OEM Tire replacement choices?

Hi Scotty, How did you manage to get Michelin to pay for your OEM tire replacement? On their website they specifically state that their warranty does not cover OEM tires for mileage. Thanks!

Model 3 July 1 accident and side air bags

There are a lot of innovations over the last 100 years that were deemed impossible. However, some individual or company led the way and made the impossible possible. Tesla is ab example of this. A car doesnt need to be a tank to prevent major injuries from common highway accidents. We can agree...

Model 3 July 1 accident and side air bags

Ultimately what matters is how much did all the passengers (driver included) suffer as a result of the crash. Whether or not the airbags deployed could be a result of the vehicles computer making calculations. If the computer felt that the impact did not warrant a deployment, then the vehicle...
