Roadster JVC radio won't turn off

Yeah Lou, it really was a good experience. One thought I had that was unexpectedly refreshing was that when I met Rich B. in Shrewsbury, he knew I had a Roadster, but he didn't say anything about co-owning a garage with a former Roadster technician. He just let me figure it out on my own. I...

Roadster JVC radio won't turn off

I hear you Walla, I have doubled up on the poison bait boxes in the garage, even though I think most of the damage was done when the original owner had it. I'm normally pretty humane, but when they start eating your Roadster, this means war!

Roadster JVC radio won't turn off

I've restarted this thread because finally the time came for me to replace my original factory JVC radio. The ipod to iphone adapter had stopped working ("Unrecognized device" was the message) and the bluetooth stopped working as well. It would sync for about the duration of one song and then...

How and where to pull plug / power to the VMS?

I also just had the "VMS-VDS comms fault" error. Everything was dead, I couldn't even open the door without using the hidden keyhole. At long last, I bought one of the OVMS modules from Medlock and Sons. It arrived yesterday, and I'm still getting it configured. But Medlock was kind enough...

Got it, Thanks! The annoying message is gone now.

How to turn off the “Maintenance Service Required” message

OK, I've been searching the forum for an hour and I can't find anyone explaining how to access the Diagnostics menus. It seems like it's something everyone but me knows how to do. Apparently there's a PIN for it, but I can't figure out how to be prompted for it. The wrench button reveals...

Coyote vs. Roadster - Some Lessons Learned

🤣 I can laugh about it now that it's good as new. After I went back to the accident scene, on the way home I saw more dead coyotes in the northbound lane, making me think they were a pack that was chasing one-another. No roadrunners!

Coyote vs. Roadster - Some Lessons Learned

Thanks Lou - Sad to hear about Watertown not being an option anymore. Once they loose their one guy whose been there since the beginning, they lose the capability that's essential to us. South Connecticut is a long tow truck ride if something serious goes wrong. Hope to see you out there!

Coyote vs. Roadster - Some Lessons Learned

I was heading to golf early one warm morning in November, doing about 75 in the left lane of Interstate 495 in Mass, when this dog-like thing came rocketing out of the grassy median right in front me. I didn't even have time to twitch. I felt the thud, then began to hear the crackling of carbon...

Error 56 and 1496, PEM Fault. Tow Mode Not Working

I had the same error a few months ago, and my Tesla SC was able to find me a new PEM, probably from all the old Roadsters that are being traded in and cannibalized. Not cheap, so prepare yourself for that. Gruber is probably less expensive, and I might have more faith in his rebuild over...

    Porsche -Tesla Ride today

I own both these cars. I intended to sell my Boxster when I bought my Roadster, but I didn't expect the Roadster to make me appreciate the Boxster more. The Porsche is a lot slower as almost all ICE cars are, but I didn't appreciate the time engineers spent on the little things until I drove a...

I haven't tried one of these yet, but Carl used a 3-D printer to create a wedge for the under dash tray that supports a phone mount. Other solutions are included there also. Link to that thread is below: better roadster phone mount

Proud New Owner of #432 in Glacier Blue!

Congratulation! I pointed that car out to someone else on the forum who craves Glacier Blue, but he passed. It seems like a great car at a fair price. His loss is your gain! Welcome aboard!

    Today's Roadster Orphan

Actually, that's Electric Blue. There's a Glacier Blue that is much lighter, and an Arctic White. I suspect you can't drive it because it's been salvaged, so they don't have it registered. Before you jump in on this, you should talk to a customs broker who routinely imports Canadian cars...

    Roadster 501 Traded In

I bought an old Boxster several years ago when I needed a fun car and I had 2 kids in college. I spent only $12K on it. It's been bulletproof but I always yearned for a Roadster. This year I finally bought #201, and I love it! But it also gave me new appreciation for the Porsche. The Roadster...

    Has anyone done the Unthinkable?

I wasn't actually thinking of doing this. It's just that everyone's battery will die someday, and many already have. I was wondering if anyone with lots of skill and free time had gone to this extreme to get their car on the road again.
  30. Bill_Baron

    Has anyone done the Unthinkable?

Yeah, I get what you mean. It would probably be much easier to remove the Elise bodywork and attach the Roadster panels. I'm sure there are some things that just won't fit though, and would need to be modified.
  31. Bill_Baron

    Has anyone done the Unthinkable?

I've read on here how, for many different reasons, dozens of Roadsters have been bricked over the years. Faced with the huge expense of a replacement battery (if you can even find one), has anyone said "The heck with it, I'm putting a gas engine back in this thing" and then done it? Is it even...

    Roadster 501 Traded In

I hate to say it, but I think you're right. It makes good corporate policy to be seen as being responsive to servicing surviving Roadsters as Tesla has recently, and every car they buy back is one less they have to provide service for, plus it creates more spare parts for them to keep the...

    Roadster 3.0

Actually that works out to be exactly the range loss rate I pulled out of my ass. If you were losing 5 miles in range per 10,000 miles driven, I would have expected you to lose 13 miles of range in the 26,000 miles you drove.

    The Wrecked Roadster Registry

If 468 has a clean title, you might prefer to hold onto that one in spite of the lower range since SCs usually won't touch or sell parts for a salvaged Roadster. I'm surprised you've gotten as far as you have with 933. When i bought mine, it had the TPMS fault. The SC placed an order for new...

    The Wrecked Roadster Registry

Congratulations! 140 is a great number given all those miles. It gives us all hope that our batteries will still be in that kind of shape when we get well over 6 digits. Let us know when you hit 200,000! By the way, are you still planning to get #933 fixed, and if so, which one will you keep?
  36. Bill_Baron

    Roadster 3.0

Definitely, 177 is a great number for a car of this age. Mine's down to 163, but it's a 2008. The psychology of being a Roadster owner is something you'll grapple with. Unlike cars with engines, Roadsters degrade the more you drive them, and you'll find yourself weighing whether or not a...

Holding on to your Roadster. . .

So I asked the SC about keeping my old PEM, and they told me there's a $2000 "core charge". (PEMs don't have cores, but OK.) So the new PEM is actually $11,000, but I get $2000 off for leaving them my old PEM. It's likely that I could save $ by hiring Medlock or Gruber, even with the...
  38. Bill_Baron

Holding on to your Roadster. . .

That's a good point, it should help offset the cost. Curious, do Tesla SCs let you keep old parts like other car companies do? It seems like PEMs and old battery packs would have significant value.

Holding on to your Roadster. . .

$9000 for the part. I asked if refurbishing my existing PEM was an option and he said that's not something the SCs do because of the extensive labor involved. Replacing it should just be a 3 hour job.

Holding on to your Roadster. . .

I just joined the Roadster fraternity in July, and I remembered reading this post and thinking "I ought to get that done". Then I forgot. The other day I happened to be walking past the car in the garage when I heard the 3 beeps it gives when there's a problem. The screen said "Drivetrain...

I think this one is still going. That pic of the odometer shows a well charged battery. I bet the range isn't much at this point given the mileage. I wonder how it ended up in an auction pit, the pics don't show any obvious problems.

Roadster JVC radio won't turn off

Yeah, my radio had loads of slack on the wires, enough for the radio to sit on the floor and still be fully connected. But you'll have a lot of splicing ahead of you. There's inputs from all sorts of non-radio related sources. I'm just happy my old radio is fully functional again and I no...
