Octopus Energy, including Intelligent and go

A 10kW electric shower will cost you £973.33 to run per year taking 4 x 10-minute showers a day: (10/60) × 10 × .40 × 4 × 365 But... we're meant to be forsaking fossil fuels. A better solution would be an immersion hot-water cylinder that you run between 11:30 pm and 5:30 am (the cheap and...

    Extra Uses For Off-Peak Electricity

Goodness, a programmable thermostat would pay for itself in literal weeks.

Octopus Energy, including Intelligent and go

(.40 − .075) × 5kWh peak usage × 365 = £593.13 per year I've no idea how much a 5kWh battery would cost, but my average consumption seems to be around 10kWh per day.

    Extra Uses For Off-Peak Electricity

That’s pretty high. Worth checking out. I’m in a 5 bedroom 3 storey house and I’m in IT so have a Synology NAS, Unifi wifi access points and network switches, a couple of Intel NUCs running VMs, 5 or 6 Sonos speakers plus fridge etc, and my baseline is 200W. So 400-500W for someone not running...

    2022.20

When I received my M3 (Nov 2019) if I had invested £5,800 in TSLA, it would've been worth £105,000 in Nov 2021. I'd be happy without any dividends.

    TeslaMate [megathread]

    Anyone gone from a 2021 M3 to a 2018 MS?

I own a M3 but have had MS loaners a couple of times. The MS feels like a plush luxury car compared to the M3. Whereas the M3 has a short bonnet and incredible visibility, the MS feels like you're sunk really low and surrounded by "stuff" (pillars, dashboards, screens) and peering through a...

    TeslaMate [megathread]

These are the instructions I followed to upgrade Postgres 12 to 14. Be very careful that you understand each step because the process is: create a backup / destroy the old Postgres / install a blank new Postgres / restore the backup. My TeslaMate runs in a VM so I was able to take a snapshot...

Wiki Everything you wanted to know about Intelligent Octopus But Were Afraid To Ask

I have to back into my driveway to plug in, but I live on a busy road which makes the reversing part difficult when I have cars behind me as I approach my driveway. So I only do it when I need a charge (which isn't that often because I don't drive that much).

    TeslaMate [megathread]

I think you need to clean everything up and start fresh. You are running two instances of Grafana and two of TeslaMate. And you are running Postgres 14 which may not be compatible with TeslaMate (I'm running version 12). You are also using the /volume1/@docker directory which isn't correct. You...

    TeslaMate [megathread]

They ran docker-compose ps rather than docker ps -- I assume docker-compose only shows the things that are under its control. So somehow they've managed to get two extra containers running, which will cause all sorts of problems.

Random delay when charging - New 2022 charge point regs now in force

Random delay when charging - New 2022 charge point regs now in force

Electricity grids have always struggled with sharp demand spikes. The classic old school example is everyone (nationwide) getting up at the end of the first half of a televised match and popping on the kettle. All Teslas (and probably most other EVs) will have their clocks set to atomic time...

    Tesla UK T0 Tyre Directive

100% agree. Unless you are buying all 4 new tyres, Costco is too much hassle, they have some very weird holier than thou mentality that I just don't get. The last time I bought new tyres from Costco it was for my Golf GTI (front wheel drive) and I only needed one pair of tyres. All four tyres...

    Nav/Map update EU-2022.12-13877

So yesterday I got the map update, and now the whole UI on the right is *much* busier, and for the first time ever (in close to 3 years ownership) I had a "automatic correction because you are drifting out of your lane" big red alert on my London zone 3 road (20mph limit)! So it's like the map...

    Window washer fluid low

I’m surprised to hear it is 3.2L. Mine’s been nagging for a couple of weeks, and when I refilled it it only took ~1.7L (it could just be the foam came up and I panicked and stopped). I use Sonax concentrate which is very foamy.

100% with you on all this. There’s also no visibility of how full it is so you inevitably overflow when refilling.

    Nav/Map update EU-2022.12-13877

This in practice turns out to be incredibly annoying, as it won't even allow you to set TACC at even 1mph above the HGV limit (which is 10mph slower than the speed limit for everyone else). Was my number 1 frustration while driving in Scotland last year.

Since 2022.12 I am getting regular occurrences of "please tap the key card to drive" when I hit the brake pedal (to trigger PIN to drive). So far I've been able to dismiss it, re-press the brake pedal and get the PIN to drive prompt and drive away.

Elon Musk: A future worth getting excited about

Just mark those roads as "too narrow/unfit for FSD". A car without a steering wheel would simply decline to drive you somewhere that could *only* be reached by one of these roads, just as today there are roads/paths that are unfit for a car but are perfectly passable for a tractor. Obviously we...

Hi there, Is it possible to get rid of the popup that appears when hovering over a link? I find this popup incredibly annoying. Elon Musk: A future worth getting excited about

Although I don't disagree, intuitively it feels like your chances of dying go down as the speed limit goes down. So even if street level FSD never works, but motorway FSD works flawlessly, wouldn't you say that's a goal worth pursuing?

Octopus Energy, including Intelligent and go

For something that has (I'm guessing) a 10+ year ROI, I don't know how useful the specifics of any existing schemes are (unless they are something you can lock into for said 10+ years). Just think how much the energy landscape has changed in the last 2.5 years (since we all started buying Teslas...

Huge amount of wasted energy caused by undesirable sleep patterns using smart chargers

This may be your problem. There is no way that Ohme knows what is better for the car than Tesla does. Tesla needs the charger to do as it's told ("please give me the 32A you said you are capable of") and to behave in a predictable way, so if it isn't (eg the behaviour of being there but having...

Scheduling a start and end time for octopus go

Without needing a smart charger or smart app controlling the car, you have to work it out yourself and set the Desired State of Charge in the car or from the app. You need to know two things: 1) How much % increase do you get per hour (it is 10% per hour on my M3LR) 2) What is the current State...

Huge amount of wasted energy caused by undesirable sleep patterns using smart chargers

It sounds like you aren't using scheduled charging (in the car)? From what I gather, the car is below its desired State of Charge (SoC), and can detect a charger is plugged in, but the charger is not supplying current. So perhaps this causes it to wake up more frequently to see if the charger...

How long can it sit at 100%

Unless you're heading to darkest Wales (very few superchargers I hear) it is unlikely you need to set off with 100% anyway. As long as you can comfortably make it to a supercharger I wouldn't bother going over 90-95%.

    Don't want model Y anymore.

Would you expand a bit more on the idea of never flying again? I find myself really missing travel after two years locked down. UK weather being so unpredictable makes it really tricky to plan/enjoy a "staycation" with a high chance of being rained out (or rained in as the case may be).
