Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

I got my mobile service for the rear trunk harness recall. For the heck of it, I threw a complaint about camera glare to the request to see if anything would happen. Expectedly, I got the whole 'intended design' spiel over text. Whatever. The day arrives and the technician informs me they would...

Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

I really do not care for the performance of the blinder-view-popup or the sideview camera view (partly because V11 is so badly designed that my hands block the view when it's relevant anyway), the problem is if it affects FSD, which I have paid several grand for and seen next to no return on...

Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

You articulated it absolutely brilliantly in your messages - really, you did it way better than I did. I went through the same hoops and escalated it via email. I essentially got told the same thing. I emphasise how utterly infuriating it is for them to lie through their teeth to you while...

Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

Hey all, It looks like we might be seeing tesla replacing repeater cams free of charge. Someone on reddit posted this: More noteworthy is what they said about the experience: "Took my 2020 model 3 in for windshield replacement and the service rep told me they would also be replacing my...

Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

In my on-going saga with Tesla support I received this reply back after providing evidence (receipts and communication) of service appointments of other owners receiving warranty replacements (read: not goodwill replacements as they tried to argue) for this issue: "Good Afternoon [Scotty]...

Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

I think that would be the required step from us to get blog-o-sphere attention onto the issue. The official Tesla Owners UK group has picked this up and is now tweeting about it: I hate to suggest it, but Tesla only seems to respond to outcry once it hits regulators or the media. Doing a test...

Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

The goal post moves again from being able to identify what the NN sees to how the NN processes it. The NN isn’t a magical entity which expends zero computational effort to completely mitigate all forms of noise and visual artefacts

Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

update: @rice_fry has affected repeater cams & the ability to pull raw imagery from the car. We'll wait and see if he decides to compare images with & without glare.

Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

The blindspot indicator popup is completely irrelevant to this issue beyond making it more obvious the problem exists. We were all seeing this on our dashcam footage, and it existed before we were even able to inspect dashcam footage coming from the cameras. They can remove the pop-up if they...

Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

Totally agree that the RCCB raw feed from the cameras that the NN receives will be different from what we see on the dashcam or the blind-spot popup. Saved clips are definitely at a low bitrate and the raw input won't have post-processing applied to it. I've attached some images of my own...

Update on AP Camera Update for Older S/X Vehicles

You’ll have to ask @Lowchrg about the part numbers but you got given old defective designs of the repeaters. Did you pay for these or was it part of the replacement programme? Either way, I think they just played you

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

I completely agree with you on all points there. I've been vocal here and where else I can. What I've found surprising and absolutely frustrating is that on the Tesla owners uk group the response to me outlining the issue is general apathy and - shockingly - defence of Tesla on the issue...

Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

We'll see eventually how big of an issue this is I suppose. I'm just speaking from my experience with motion tracking that this issue raises major red flags to me. Maybe there's a regulatory loophole that allows them to reduce the blinker rate for additional data, maybe the issue gets superseded...

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

FSD-owners-only replacements would be likely given that's what happened with HW3 and the S & X replacement programme. Speaking of - I googled the S & X camera upgrade programme just to reconfirm and found reports of a recall for S, X & 3 repeater camera recall due to "defective printed circuit...

Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

Ah no problem! It's definitely interesting. I would be surprised if these conversations weren't being had by FSD devs at Tesla. I posted a reply in another thread which touches on some of the same points you did. I'll paste it below: I strongly suspect they will have to replace these cameras at...

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

I strongly suspect they will have to replace these cameras at some point for FSD. I have been told at a service centre that if needed, Tesla will replace cameras for FSD to function (and have evidence of such). In a couple of discussions people defending Tesla on this issue claim this won't...
  19. Scotty7

Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

That's very true, and would be a solid reason why they don't see the benefit in upgrading the cameras now. I would be much more satisfied with Tesla if their response to this issue was "we will replace the cameras as needed for FSD when the time is appropriate if need be" rather than "nothing's...

Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

It's really insulting actually given those working on the cars will know it's BS, and whoever made the high level decision to have the "characteristic" wording sent out will know it's BS. By the time these cameras become the lowest hanging fruit to tackle to improve FSD performance there'll be...

Update on AP Camera Update for Older S/X Vehicles

It's hard to judge in a garage given light is reflecting off the walls / car. Could you go into your recents on the dashcam and see if you have any footage during the night?

Glare from side repeaters in blind spot camera?

I've made a dedicated thread for this, based on @Tevo Solutions 's video: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/repeater-camera-defect-identified-will-affect-fsd-performance.255546/ I think we'll have more success arguing this from a FSD perspective. It will absolutely degrade the quality of...

Suspected repeater camera defect that affects FSD performance

The repeater glare seen by many people here has been revealed by the channel below to be a design flaw with the circuit board of the camera. The PCB has three holes which allows the indicator light to leak directly onto the image sensor, bypassing the front of the lens entirely (aka, it's not...

Update on AP Camera Update for Older S/X Vehicles

So, there's an issue with the repeater cameras that might end up throwing the whole replacement for S & X vehicles into chaos. Many users have reported seeing glare in their repeater cameras when indicating. You could see this in dashcam footage previously, but the new repeater camera popup...

    FSD Timeline Promises (summary)

if we end up getting HW4 replacements for our HW3 computers I think that would be a big admittance of failure. HW3 would’ve served essentially no purpose, other than displaying bins, and Tesla would’ve spent millions replacing them in thousands of cars. I feel a looming sense that whatever...

Software downloads bugged - update notifications disappear when on wifi

I've had a software update pending to 2021.24.4 since getting my Model 3 back from the service centre a week ago. It asks me to get on Wifi to download it. As soon as I get on wifi, all the relevant prompts to download it disappear and the car says I'm already up to date (it's the same behaviour...

Residue / moisture / dirt causing Model 3 dash cam footage to be degraded, hazy and blurry.

The dashcam quality footage for me has significantly degraded over the last month or two. I believe some sort of residue / moisture has become trapped behind the windscreen, in-front of the cameras, distorting the image (and affecting autopilot performance). I am fully aware the images are...

    UK Owners with v10?

Sr+ with fsd but not advanced updates. Nothing yet. I’ve been holding off opting in for early updates as I’d rather not drive on early software, but the considerable amount of praise for V10 AP’s better / safer driving is tempting me to ask via chat tomorrow. Plus it’d be nice to not be...
