Confirmed sales of Signature Model S

Loaded sig perf w/ less than 10000 miles on it for 92k? What is the catch? Accident?

Alas, new problem: Windshield Stress Fracture. Anyone else?

It is probably caused by chips, but chips can stay unnoticed for a while, especially if they are near the edge of the windshield. A change in temperature can then cause the windshield chip to spider or produce a huge crack.

Petition to rollback 5.8s suspension behavior modification at high speeds

One thing this will do is allow for real data about the range increase obtained by lowering the car. I would love to see wht the actual benefit is.

    Defroster Vent UI Behavior

Are you sure that the A/C is not kicking on? I had a Toyota that had a separate A/C button with a light and you could turn that light on or off with the button, but the compressor remained on if defrost was selected. I do not think that this behavior is mandatory though.

    Defroster Vent UI Behavior

I don't know that I have been in a car that allowed the windshield vents on without the A/C kicking on. It might be a safety feature as that setting could create condensation on the inside of the windshield.

New $5 device easily unlocks car doors

If it is the same "documentation" as this video, then nothing in the video proved that the car was locked initially. If it does work, then they should be able to explain the mechanism. Otherwise, it makes no sense.

New $5 device easily unlocks car doors

A rolling code would not work in this type of system, in a rolling code system uses a pseudo random number generator to create a unique code for every press of the fob button, the fob only has a transmitter and after sending one code it assumes that code was accepted and goes on to the next code...

New $5 device easily unlocks car doors

Obviously the MS, any any other fob based keyless car system cannot use a rolling code RKE security system so what do they use? Would that be easier to break? Harder?

I want to clear up some confusion on CHAdeMo Adapter Pricing

What's more, that station would be more useful as it would be able to charge other EV's.

Just as I thought the P85+ couldn't get any better :)

From Michelin, the PSS's are suposed to increase both grip and tirewear: (I have not seen independent verification of these figures and I assume tire size would change the numbers) Road-holding on dry surfaces: Tests showed a 1.5-second gain on a 2,700-meter closed-circuit track. Braking on...

Vendor Project Chocolat: A Customized Brown Model S

Those aren't factory tires, they are Pirelli P Zero Nero's. Can't see on the pictures whether it is a P+ with the wider rears.

    Goodyear vs. Michelin

There are many summer tires available for the 19" wheels, depends on how much you want to spend, but I have heard good things about the Michelin PS3's.

    Pirelli Winter Sottozero 3

I saw on Tirerack that they had winter tires that were supposed to fit the 21" rims. Has anyone had experience with these? I know I would probably still have to get a second set of 21" rims but this way they could at least be the same rims...

Could the Model S in the future be equiped with an automatic gearbox, for more range?

As was stated in this thread on TOS, Tesla initially tried a 2 speed transmission in the roadster for top speed. The roadster melted the transmissions so Tesla got rid of them. http://green.autoblog.com/2008/01/23/breaking-tesla-has-a-solution-for-their-transmission-woes-get/

The 40 kWh Model S was discontinued to increase the distance inbetween Superchargers.

Humorously, I believe the reason the 40 was discontinued was highlighted by ItsNotAboutTheMoney, and it was about the money. I don't think Tesla was making a profit on them. I bet the 40 pack was more costly than they anticipated, combine this with the fact that people who were ordering 40's...

I want 21" Staggered Wheels for my P85

If you were willing to go with the 20" (I know you said you didn't want to) you would have a lot more tire options and could get better tires for less money. If you wanted to stay with Michelin you could get the PSS or PS3.

ModelS with 85kw battery for 49k on ebay: needs repair work

Yes, but, if it is the car I am thinking of, (from a TMC member), the reason it is unreparable is due to battery damage. If it needs a new battery it is no longer a good deal.

Omni Richmond Hotel ClipperCreek charger (need twin chargers to take full advantage)

Forgive my ignorace (I am still trying to learn as much as possible) but why can't a single charger accept a more than 40A when the voltage is lower? I thought the single charger was rated for 10kW, which would equal about 240V and 40A. If the industrial voltage is lower, why can't the...

    Thoughts on hypermiling the Tesla

Why would the the differential in speeds between you and the vehicle in front of you would be far less if you were inches away vs. several feet? If you are both going 65, there is no differential in speeds regardless of the range between cars. Increasing range just allows for more reaction...

    Display format of imported contacts

Yeah Yagi, It looks like the MS is defaulting to the American standard for phone numbers. I would think that the solution would be for Tesla to take your recommondation and use a more simple number without spaces, parenthesis and dash, as it might be hard to format numbers in all of the...

Adding extension antenna to existing XM antenna/wiring?

From my (admittedly limited) knowledge of these things, you are not going to want to boost the amplifiers, (it will just boost the static as well) you will need a modification to the antenna.

Spots where you have AT&T connectivity on cellphone but not Tesla

Maybe Tesla's deal with AT&T doesn't include "partner networks". Would probably be cheaper for Tesla.

    Model S at Hertz

They are charging that because they think they can get it. Not due to the cost of the car, due to the novelty. If they overestimated they will reduce the price.

Ridiculous Forbes Article - Tesla Model S A Nice Fossil Fuel Car

To add to what JGard said, One main point that these articles miss is the potential change in the future. As long as cars burn gasoline they will produce greenhouse gasses, you can make them more efficient, but you cannot get past this basic fact. Once you shift cars over to electricity...

Nav System after v5.0: wishes, wants, Google maps and more...

Agreed, it would be interesting to talk to someone on the dev team to see if they considered a (obviously highly modified) android system before they chose to implement a linux based system. I wonder what the pros and cons were? Were there other options considered?

    Connectivity: service plan/upgradability/speed

Actually, every iPhone 4s is identical to every other iPhone 4s, they all have the same antenna and same chipset (qualcomm MDM6610) which has the ability to recieve HSDPA 14.4 and HSUPA 5.76 for GSM/UMTS-based carriers like AT&T, alongside CDMA2000 1x/EVDO Rev.A for 3GPP2 based carriers like...

    Connectivity: service plan/upgradability/speed

The Audi plan sounds fair for a stand alone plan, but I can add a tablet to my current Verizon plan for $10 a month (I would not increase my data cap) If tesla had installed a universal chip in thae car like is in the iPhone, the HTC one or many other phones, we would have this option instead...

19" and 21" Tire Wear (informal) Survey

Let me get this all straight. You are saying that you believe that the excessive tire wear is caused by an incorrect "toe" setting, and that it is correctable by a Service Center? That is amazing news!

Powder Coating 21" Silvers to Greys

How the Model S is Made - Wired Magazine

The Fremont plant is massive. Right now Tesla is only using a small fraction of it. When NUMMI was running at full capacity it was putting out 6000 cars a week, and that was without a lot of the automation that Tesla has introduced into the plant. I doubt Tesla would ever build another plant...

How the Model S is Made - Wired Magazine
