Gridserve Charger Sites in UK [megathread]

They’re usually cheaper without the subscription. The question for a non-Tesla is how much cheaper the superchargers would for them with a subscription ie how many kWh do you need to charge to save the 10.99 a month. That’s about 80kWh or two-three significant charges on a supercharger.

Really? Tesla is no different to any other publicly quoted company. It's beholden to its shareholders who expect a return.

Tesla is pricing low to attract business from other networks. Odds on it would increase the price to manage demand if the network was overwhelmed. It's a commercial business after all.

Gridserve and the rest. Instavolt and BP Pulse already have more rapids than Tesla. MFG and Osprey also pushing hard. There are a good half a dozen or more networks aiming to be the biggest.

I subscribed for the last two months and, no, you don't give any details about the car. You pay, you charge.

You plug in, select the stall in the app and click start charging. It doesn't know the vehicle but it does what any other rapid does and reports the state of charge in the app.

It's good value for money. I drove to the south of France mostly on the supercharger network and it was just as quick and easy as when I did it in my SR+

You also have to use an app on those without card payment. I'm in France right now in an MG4 and I failed to get a charge at a supercharger twice, once because all the superchargers literally disappeared from the app for an hour or so and the second time because the app randomly changed my...

I'm pretty sure Musk said not long ago they were aiming for 10% profit on supercharging. Most of the non-Tesla networks are making a loss on charging a lot more. Who knows what the Tesla maths actually is. It's not transparent for sure.

The regulations on contactless payment do apply to existing rapids. You have 12 months to comply once they come into force.

Why talk down Instavolt? They've been around long enough. I was using them when I had a Leaf, which is going back more than five years. They are now bigger than the supercharger network in the UK and expanding faster than it. All that with great reliability 🤷‍♂️

Maybe, I've always managed to pay with a card at Instavolt. There's a reason they are consistently voted the best public network in the ZapMap polls.

Tesla will have to get its act together if it's really going to clean up. There are 150+ non-Tesla rapid charging hubs in the UK (six or more devices) and they are growing faster than Tesla. Supercharger expansion in the UK is currently running at half the pace it is in the likes of France and...

It's interesting to look at what's happening in France where more than 60 sites (probably more than two thirds of stalls) are open to all. I follow the French forums and you never hear of issues. I’ve not tried it yet. I’ve mapped some journeys I might do. I’ve seen posts of Brits with non-Tesla’s charging in France. I’ve not seen anything to suggest that there are any restrictions as long as you live in one of the countries with open superchargers. Where have you seen this?

I’ve used the car park regularly over many years to pick up and drop off. I’ve never bought a ticket for that and never been fined. From my observations, the car parking is enforced by a camera on a patrol car, not cameras at the entrance and exit.

    Bonnet now has IONITY

Not sure about that. I'm thinking there's a decent saving to be had on my drive down to Italy in the summer by using Ionity with Bonnet rather than superchargers. We'll see how well Bonnet does but, if they can pick up Instavolt and Gridserve too, they'll have an even stronger offer.
