    UK Pricing piss take

The US is mega expensive these days, but they earn a heap more and are far far wealthier in general, so actually the cars there look even more generously priced. UK incomes are around where the US was in the mid 1980s. The gap keeps gets bigger as incomes in the US are going up, whereas we are...

New owner here. Got a question…

I had an original SR+ and on sub zero London short driving from 80-20% i was getting 100miles, i switched to a revamped LR. You must be using more like 500wh/m to get 100 in a LFP with heat pump and current weather. Its either broken or your calculating something incorrectly

    Residuals / Depreciation

Part of the problem was dealers got killed paying way too much for Tesla’s during and just after Covid, so won’t touch them anymore. They got hit 10k+ per car in many cases. They hve mot sold that many yet. There are no more Tesla’s hitting the auctions than there used to be BMW 3s etc pre EV...

    Battery Preheat - Down side

Y LR, I am aware if the limitations of V2 etc, just never noticed any real difference in charge speeds from preheating and can’t really see any benefit. It never really hits the max, normally anyway, so battery temp does not seem to matter much. The car charges pretty quickly still anyway. Tbh...

    Battery Preheat - Down side

I never seem to get the fastest charge speeds at superchargers anyway, well very rare anything close to the max. So not sure what I’m giving up with preheating. If I’ve been driving for a few hours the battery will already be quite warm, even in winter.

    Trade in value

On the positive side the first two Tesla’s lost zero over three and a bit years so the fact that the final one has cratered just brings me back to scratch. And I am really looking forward to my £15k Highland in 2025! Now if I had paid full price for a 18month old 3 with 15k on the clock I would...

Slap in the face by Tesla - Trade-in value £20k less than I paid Tesla just 18 months ago.

The combination of higher interest rates and rapid depreciation is going to make Tesla/EV leases a lot more expensive. (Oh and the insurance). At least other brands have different models and specs that differ, spreading the risk a hit wider.

    Tesla Vision

Clearly Elon today is very different from the Elon of a few years ago.The cave thing seemed to be when things cracked, down hill ever since. The reality is being the richest person in the world is misery, his mind has buckled and he is unravelling. It is a slow motion car crash. Tesla vision is...

If the rise in insurance is because of repair costs why isn’t third party cheap too?

You can turn on sentry from The app, which raises the question would having sentry on activate the tracking? Or do you need to set a geolocation challenge based on the pics!
  18. K

If the rise in insurance is because of repair costs why isn’t third party cheap too?

Ah, must be me being stupid then. It would seem to be something an update would fix and I would guess Tesla could see where it is?
  19. K

If the rise in insurance is because of repair costs why isn’t third party cheap too?

But it does if you open the app to see where it is, so it is trackable.

If the rise in insurance is because of repair costs why isn’t third party cheap too?

I presume they also get a chunk back from the additional premium they charge on the CAT D repaired vehicle for the rest if its life!
  21. K

If the rise in insurance is because of repair costs why isn’t third party cheap too?

The point really was is third party removes the risk of anything EV/Telsa specific, as I am wearing all of that risk for them. If I crash it I have all the costs for the damage to my car. Sure there is a performance element too, but I can insure a 911 for about a third of the price of my Y and I...

If the rise in insurance is because of repair costs why isn’t third party cheap too?

All of the excuses provided by the insurers claim that EV insurance is going up because if repair costs. Fair enough. So i will just go for third party cover so that is not an issue for them. Of someone crashes into me they have to pay, but that should not be reflected in my premium. But the...

Bonnet/Frunk opening of its own accord

My wife went out this morning and the bonnet on the Y was open. Bit weird so I checked the camera and it turns out it opened on its own in the middle of the prior afternoon. Never happened before, wondered if anyone had this happen? I have relocated the cables to the boot!

LV insurance hike - quick sense check

Are there standalone third party NCD policies that will just pay out the increased insurance for a ding? As NCD protection is a very poor return. Or a insurance policy that will chase the insurer of the at fault party for full and complete financial losses, as currently this does not happen.
  27. K

LV insurance hike - quick sense check

When my wife got knocked of her push bike, the all in legal paid by the (at fault) driver’s insurer was 800k, so I take the repair issue cost excuse with a bit of a pinch of salt. It is often not the only cost involved in a crunch. I have also not seem any data suggesting lots of Tesla’s are...

LV insurance hike - quick sense check

Two years ago Peugeot insured my M3LR in inner London for £379, just to put things into even more painful perspective. They’ve just worked out the fuel saving and gouged (I know all insurance is up but Tesla seems more than other premium brands, even though parts problems are fairly...

Anyone in the UK 'upgraded' their Model Y suspension?

It is cheaper to buy another can than deal with the additional insurance premium!
  33. K

Anyone in the UK 'upgraded' their Model Y suspension?

I did test drive ( specifically to see the suspension), it seemed ok. Similar to my 3LR which was really good. But the route was clearly gamed to take you along the smoothest roads in Britain. Also no high speed, which I think is another weakness on how the Y springs are set up (or not set up)...

I sent Tesla a few emails enquiring about the parts for the suspension, to a few different mailboxes, at different service centres. And it might not surprise you to hear that I have heard exactly zippo back.

    Tesla Price Reductions

So we could easily seem some changes in Y interior before exterior refresh then, like the initial refresh of the 3. But the exterior stuff will take longer as they are totally different bits. So end of 2024 early 2025 seems most likely for that to me to bring both into line.
  37. K

    Tesla Price Reductions

I never understood the parts overlap thing as pretty much everything is a different size. They look similar for sure but the Y is longer/wider. I would say its not far off the gap between a BMW 3 and 5 or an Audi A4 to 6, certainly in terms of the increase in interior space. Drivetrain, battery...

    Possible Model 3 Purchase

I would hold out for the refresh on the SR that comes with a heatpump, makes a massive difference in Winter range. You’ll be looking at 100-120 miles from my experience on the one without. But if thats not a problem, great car.

Trade in Values from Tesla (& other dealers)

I wonder how this will impact sales, as based on this forum a lot of demand was people upgrading. I did it twice. But I always expected that merry go round to stop and at that point I would just keep the car til it fell to bits (sooner than I envisaged tue ways things are rattling). Although...

The new aero alloys - reasonable price, look nice and more efficient

These are the first after market alloys I have come across (for Model Y, but they do. The whole range) that actually look good, I was wondering if anyone had actually got a set and, if they had, what they thought? https://www.thenewaero.com/product/tna-razor19-smoothy/ Also wondered what the...

    Numberplates Stolen - Model Y

I don’t undersrand why the DVLA don’t operate some sort of automatic cancellation policy for stolen plates, its not as if its hard to provide new details and it would soon remove the problem as nicking plates would have a useful lifespan if a few hours and at best make it easy for the cops to...

[UK] Anyone else considering refusing delivery by of Model Y? (USS)

The best thing about waiting for HW4 is the car will be a lot cheaper too! And they might have even added back parking sensors by then!

    Pedestrian warning system add on.

I find tyre noise is the first thing i hear, EV or ICE, rather than the engine. Never really understood the EV sneaking up and running you over fears, although obviously reversing is a problem, so UFO sound is helpful. Had not noticed the car made a noise going forward.

    Lots of little niggles...

I think the car is like a PC, it works great when you get it, but over time it gets clogged up, bugs to fix bugs and the updates never seem to clean everything up they should do and create more conflicts. In the end with a PC you just upgrade to a new one, or just wipe it and do a clean install...

[UK] Anyone else considering refusing delivery by of Model Y? (USS)

I presume this is going to be Vision beta for the next ten years? And if you scrape the front or back of the car trusting it in the interim, it will be entirely your own fault?
