Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

A little update, since Jan 20' when I switched to the Michelin 265/40 & 285/40 have been really enjoying the taller sidewall. Hit some really deep potholes and no blowouts. 22k miles and plenty of life left. I keep it at 46-48psi cold and never had an issue. Hope everybody is really enjoying...

Brand new Model Y P needs a battery replacement.

This company is not in it's first or second year. It's been around for more than a decade. The fact that they don't give a rats ass about their customers is insane. I am not some troll, I am on my second Tesla. Model 3 performance to Model Y performance. Both cars are amazing, but excusing poor...

1up 1 UP Bike Rack Super Duty 2" Double (Black) (Model S/3/X/Y)

Hi, For sale is a new 1up Bike Rack. This is the Super Duty Double Black Bought last year, assembled and never used it. Thought, my kids and my wife would take up biking, but they did not. Everything is in new (like new) condition. I bought 1 add-on lock for future expansion (so they are...

    sweet MYP, congrats... looks awesome.

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

It's a non issue on the rub. Don't let it dissuade you from going this setup. You will never notice it and it doesn't damage anything.
  8. Q

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

Are you talking about the fender well? If so it is quite a bit tight upfront. I had a tiny amount of rub, while others did not. So the clearance for larger tires in the front, above and beyond 265/40/21 is def not recommended.

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

to me it looks like almost exactly 1" - so i guess same answer would apply... i really cant get in there to measure it for you, otherwise would have posted another pic... sorry, maybe others have the capability to do that
  10. Q

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

gonna be tight... take a look at the first page, I did a few measurements there with a 3/4" block and measuring tape. Diagonally it may clear, but would be by the skin of the teeth. I would say this one would most likely need to be measured by fitting an actual rim tire combo on it. Good luck...

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

Are you adjusting your efficiency for the error in the speedometer? Your true efficiency per mile should be viewed as "watts per mile consumption you see on your screen" divided by 1.039 (the error coefficient of your speedo). Please let us know if you are still seeing lower efficiency after...

What's a good way to verify? Are the regular apps that track speedo based off GPS reliable? How precise are they?

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

He is saying the latter, not the former. Tesla does NOT auto adjust the speedometer. Apparently, with these tires, the speedometer is closer to true, where it was off with original tires. I wonder if this is an isolated case. Mine is off by the approximate amount that is forecasted with the...

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

Looks awesome. If you can post some more rear shots and check clearances, so others can see who are interested in the 295 setup vs the 285 that I and others have went with.

My 8/21 Built MYP (YT Video)

"Light aftermarket mods" - haha, you have done some awesome mods and great choices. Truly, an incredible looking car. The matte PPF is seriously gorgeous. Would love to add that to my MYP but it's a bit too much $$$ that is reserved for other things (waiting for the film cost to drop and for the...

  21. Q

AWD Y Much Slower Than AWD 3

There was another thread about this and there were numbers provided on the M3P and MYP. The M3P is half a second faster than MYP but they have virtually the same trap speed (something around 114mph). This can only happen if the M3P's curve is much flatter than the MYP curve, with more power down...

Model Y Range LR Vs Performance

I thought the suspension is claimed to be different "slightly lower" as well. For the current price diff of only 5k, if you are even considering the Acceleration Boost, you might as well go for Performance. The way I see this is: -Better acceleration -Better resale -You get the better looking...

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

I don't remember if we got snow last year (NYC). I think we did and these performed very well. By very well, I mean I drive as normal without concern for my or my family's safety.

  29. Q

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

To be honest, I have no idea. The pics I posted above is where I am at right now. I am in NYC and here the roads are really awful. Potholes, uneven, road debris...etc - these conditions really chew through the tires. I also think that Tesla chews through tires a bit faster due to weight and the...

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

I would really be interested in some feedback from people that wore their pirellis down to zero and then switched to this setup. I am curious about the differences they are seeing. Thank you all and keep on improving the Tesla experience.

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

I explain the tiny amount of rub and how it barely effects anything. Included pics as well. Pls read a few pages back.

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

Not sure how to measure that as I do not have that tool? If you can suggest a coin pic, I can accommodate, but outside of that, don't have the tools.
  34. Q

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

It has been 8ish months on these tires and I have not had any issues what so ever. I have looked for this exact issue underneath to see if there is any indication of rub, as the wheel well is filled out quite well and I see none. Not that this should really matter but my tires are inflated to...

    How Does Tesla Read MPH?

based on the fact that changing the tire diameter to non-standard tesla size results in speedometer discrepancy, I would venture a guess and say that it is calculated by the diameter * the speed of the rotation...

MYP - Time for new tires

Slight rub when the wheel is turned all the way, not really noticeable and doesn't effect daily driving at all.
  38. Q

MYP - Time for new tires

    1. I dont think you can move the rear to the front, but i am not 100% sure. rim size is different (which may affect it)... 2. The rub is not from the vertical height difference, but from the diagonal arch created by the wider and taller wheel...

MYP - Time for new tires

So I have done this and documented in a separate thread. My journey was from Uber stock summer pirellis to AS4 but a wider and taller tire. Here are the base metrics: https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/posts/5252704/ Here are the metrics after the upgrade...
  40. Q

MYP - Time for new tires

What it does is a few things. 1. It changes the graphic on the display. 2. It changes mileage on the battery because each one of those wheels has different efficiency. The Ubers (21s) are like boat anchors and you lose 20-30miles in efficiency (but they really look nice IMHO). I don't know if...
  41. Q

MYP - Time for new tires

I am sorry , that is incorrect. The Tesla on-board computer does NOT adjust for the change in the tire's overall diameter when computing mileage and speed. I have verified this with GPS vs Speedometer and it is consistently off. all wheels for tesla are virtually the same diameter 19s 20s...

    265/40R20 Fits!

so I sold off the summer tires and these are my daily, all-year-around tires now... no complaints at all
  44. Q

    265/40R20 Fits!

Honestly, we love it. The sidewall protection is amazing and the stance looks like there is no wheel well gap at all. We keep it at 46-48psi and love the tight feel. I would def do it again. Hands down, this is what the original tires were meant to be.
  45. Q

    265/40R20 Fits!

Yep :) since that was my post I have determined through the process that it does fit.
  46. Q

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

I would say on a wheel that is slightly bumped out, the slight rub should be less, rather than more, due to the diagonal being reduced a fraction. That is just a guess, based on the limited number of considered variables at play.
  47. Q

Suspension Clearances for Wider / Taller tires

I have not measured the wear to be honest. Dont have a tool to do that. I can eyeball it, but the wear rating on tire rack site says it is 540, which is dramatically higher than stock - should get good mileage out of these. I also run 48-50psi on them, so might even get more life out of them.
