    Autonomous Car Progress

No question Elon is WAYYY overly optimistic with his timelines. But he never said there would be a million robotaxis by the end of this year. There will barely be a million Tesla's BUILT by the end of this year. He said that, regulators allowing, the service should be started by the end of...

    Autonomous Car Progress

Waymo's L4 is limited to a few geographic areas where it has mapped (and continuously re-maps to catch changes) every street, light, stop sign, traffic sign, etc., down to the millimeter. As I understand it, their LIDAR looks at the surroundings (pre-mapped, remember) and determines the exact...

Blog School Board Approves $68 Million in Incentives to Bring Tesla Factory to Texas

I'm afraid Tulsa is totally out of the conversation now because of the new Supreme Court decision saying that Tulsa (and about half of the state of Oklahoma) is now considered Indian Reservation land. I expect there will be a lot of uncertainty in the business climate there until this is all...

    Software Update 2020.12

Mine has installed but I'm 1,000 miles from my Tesla so can't see release notes. Someone please post them!

MASTER THREAD: 2019.40.50.x - Driving Visualization improvements, new voice commands, Camping Mode

Didn't work for me. Just walked out to the car to try it. First I pressed the right button and released it and said "navigate to the nearest grocery" and it handled that properly. Then I cancelled navigation, pressed the right button again without holding and repeated the same command...

MASTER THREAD: 2019.40.50.x - Driving Visualization improvements, new voice commands, Camping Mode

Same here. I tried "open rear camera" when I first got in and that worked but after that I would say something and all it would do is show suggestions. I could tell that it was hearing what I was saying because the volume icon was "throbbing" whenever I spoke but it just couldn't seem to...

"USB too slow for dash cam" error message

I gave up on the USB's after trying 4 of them. Each worked for a few weeks then had the message. The last time it failed 5 minutes before the car was sideswiped in a parking lot hit and run so I wasn't able to identify the culprit. Several people witnessed it while we were in the post office...

Two reports of Teslas on AP hitting stopped vehicles in their lane on the freeway

I wonder how many people using cruise control have lost concentration for a few moments and plowed into the back of a car. I'll bet that happened more often after cruise control was invented (50 years ago?) than previously. But I've never heard anyone blame that on cruise control or suggest...

Dashcam video of avoided accident - would autopilot have avoided this?

Our car swerved into the next lane on its own when we were in Autopilot. A big SUV in the lane to the right turned into us and my wife started to turn away and realized Autopilot was already taking it into the next lane. I was surprised it would do that but it definitely avoided a collision...

Supercharger - Scotts Valley, CA (LIVE 30 Jan 2020, 16 V3 stalls + Magic Docks)

I'm visiting in the area and stopped to check it out. There's definitely 16 parking places with Tesla signs but there's still a lot more work to do. Here's a couple of photos.

Tesla Owners Can Edit Maps to Improve Summon Routes

I don't get why people think this is violating the spirit of FSD. How do you think Navigation works? They're using Google Maps and ALWAYS WILL. The software can't plan a route with no knowledge of where the roads are. What Musk objects to is using map data to define what's right in front of...

Sentry Mode USB flash drive failure costing me thousands

CONCLUSION (again): I started this thread so I thought I should post the result of my repair. I can't say enough about Amato's body shop in San Diego. They've been doing Tesla's since 2013 and have many rave reviews. I was concerned about cost since their building looks more like a high-end...

MASTER THREAD: USB drives that work with Sentry and TeslaCam

Thank you for continuing to emphasize this. I suspect the people who think they've found a solution just have been lucky to not run into the bug condition - which apparently has nothing to do with the hardware. I've had four failures on 3 different drives in 4 months. The last time it failed...

Sentry Mode USB flash drive failure costing me thousands

I have sent a service request to Tesla to see if they have the footage but no response yet. Other people say Tesla just uploads metadata, not the actual video and they have facts to support it. I've gone all over the parking lot - no cameras. Kind of shocking these days.

Sentry Mode USB flash drive failure costing me thousands

I talked to the nearest Tesla Service Center first and they said they don't do body work (I think some of them do). I had read on forums that Tesla Service Centers are expensive. I don't have any experience with them so don't know if that's true. Amato's, as you said, does a LOT of high-end...

Sentry Mode USB flash drive failure costing me thousands

CONCLUSION TO "COSTING ME THOUSANDS" incident: I started this thread on 10/12 when my wife parked her car at the post office. When she came out people were yelling that an old man in a white pick-up had hit her car and took off. No one got the license and when we checked the Sentry USB disk...

Sentry Mode USB flash drive failure costing me thousands

That was 3rd USB drive that failed just before the collision. I think I'm going to switch to SSD, too. The discussion here has been very useful. And, yes, I agree it's a software bug. My first one failed IMMEDIATELY after a software update last summer and that's when other people started...

Sentry Mode USB flash drive failure costing me thousands

Absolutely. But as I said in an earlier post, this will be our first claim in about 30 years. So the lower rates we've been paying over all those years due to having a high deductible has still paid off.

Sentry Mode USB flash drive failure costing me thousands

I've done a lot of Googling about comprehensive vs. collision coverage in this type of accident. Here's a typical explanation from an insurance company: "Hit-and-run accidents can involve cars, pedestrians, or other property. ... Comprehensive coverage pays for damages to your car because of...

Sentry Mode USB flash drive failure costing me thousands

We just have one in each of the two forward ports - one for music, one for dashcam

Sentry Mode USB flash drive failure costing me thousands

That makes sense. I'll post Tesla's reply, assuming I get one.

Sentry Mode USB flash drive failure costing me thousands

I sent a message to Tesla via their Support page, asking if they have a copy of the Sentry video. Haven't heard back yet but no surprise since it's a weekend. I was wondering if there's a better way to get Tesla's attention. I've heard you can report bugs somehow by voice when you're in the...

Sentry Mode USB flash drive failure costing me thousands

Guess I'll have to go this way. Thanks to everyone who suggested it. I've read about this option before but didn't realize it is apparently working so much better than the USB drive.

Sentry Mode USB flash drive failure costing me thousands

I've never posted on any Tesla forum before and only a few times on any social media. I wrote it right after the accident and when I discovered Sentry Mode had failed. I was very upset about the accident and couldn't believe Sentry Mode had failed TEN MINUTES before that. It expressed my...

Sentry Mode USB flash drive failure costing me thousands

I hope you're right. So far we've gone through the on-line process with GEICO which asked a bunch of questions and then categorized it as a "collision". Maybe after we talk to a rep this will change. I'll post the final result.

Sentry Mode USB flash drive failure costing me thousands

Fair enough about taking the cheap way out. But this will be the first insurance claim we've had in about 30 years so we've saved a lot over the years by having a high deductible. And now we pay for it.

Sentry Mode USB flash drive failure costing me thousands

Great story. I wish someone like that had at least got the license #. Two people shouted at my wife that a white pick-up had hit it and she could probably catch it so she took off in the car after it. Traffic was heavy and there are a LOT of white pick-ups!

Sentry Mode USB flash drive failure costing me thousands

Thanks for this. Do you mean they're saving it on the car's computer? Do you have any more information on it? I've sent a message to Tesla.

Sentry Mode USB flash drive failure costing me thousands

I guess I could have said it "would have saved me thousands IF it had worked properly" but it amounts to the same thing. I've spent a lot of time and some money trying to get it work properly so it WOULD save me money if anything ever happened and it still didn't do any good.

Thanks. Yeah, I've done that twice and this keeps happening.

Sentry Mode USB flash drive failure costing me thousands

My 5-month-old blue Model 3 was just scraped by a white pickup in the post office parking lot. My wife was inside at the time and I was home. When she came out 2 people shouted that a white pickup had scraped the side of my car and then took off. They didn't get the license # but she didn't...
