DC to DC converter: what can it reasonably handle in terms of using your battery as a power source?

Sorry this isn't correct. The issue is not the car monitors what is used versus what is put out. There is large capacitors at the input of most inverters to smooth the power coming into it. When connected to the 12v output of the Penthouse, these are viewed as very close to a short circuit, so...

Model Y: Frunk power tap bolt material

For various aftermarket installs, you need constant power, that if available somehow in the cabin today, may not be with a future software update. Enter the Frunk "12v" battery, for small loads. But in the 2022+ MY's (and 2023+ M3, and I believe the latest refresh MS/X) it is not a 10mm nut...

Max wattage of the rear cigarette plug?

There is a DC - DC converter from the HV battery to 12v at somewhere near 200A draw. It is needed to charge the 12v battery, should be the first thought. It is exposed, to run to VC Right, and I expect VC Left also (though haven't pulled apart the dash to confirm the cable runs from one to the...

External speaker retrofit to enable boombox on 2018 car?

What can you confirm? I have heard many things from Tesla Mobile Service. Much of it true, some of completely false (in many cases countered by the cars manual!!). The only official word on a retrofit comes from Elon Musk,or on Tesla.com .

External speaker retrofit to enable boombox on 2018 car?

Thanks for the reply, but agree with the other poster above. "official" has to come from Tesla HQ, not a private reply to a single owner. Someone else posted on prior pages of this thread that Elon was "looking into it" (as it isn't definite, this is also not promising).

External speaker retrofit to enable boombox on 2018 car?

Sorry, while I see a single SC responding to an owner that it is possible, haven't seen Elon say so which would (I trust) overrule SC say so. Also don't see where $300 is mentioned...

External speaker retrofit to enable boombox on 2018 car?

@TomT - Any chance you can pull the threads you found this info on and supply to me via this thread/PM. I would be interested in giving this a try, know where the MCU is, but need to know which unused pins are eluded to above.

External speaker retrofit to enable boombox on 2018 car?

@Tranquil Rage - Can you share the wiring diagram you found this in. I searched the copy I have and didn't see it. Interested in figuring out where this connects to on the controller/ECU end.

E-mail for London-Chiswick, UK service center

Might anyone know what the e-mail is to discuss parts ordering with the London-Chiswick, UK service center.

Model 3 EU Tow hitch part numbers

Thanks MrHosping. I checked out epc.tesla.com with my U.S., based Tesla account login and part 1 (the hitch itself) is shown, but not numbered, nor with a part number in the table below. Might you be able to advise if the column to the right of part number lists any restrictions on sale for...

Model 3 EU Tow hitch part numbers

Might anyone have the part numbers for the tow hitch Tesla installs in EU, and the part numbers for the wiring harness also?

Model S: Hansshow Trunk Kick Sensor - Wiring

Hansshow has recently changed their hookup method for the wires from the control box to the factory liftgate button/factory latch mechanism/factory trunk open button <rant> and is being even more unhelpful than usual in providing a simple answer to simple question of where 3 silly wires from...

12v for accessory in April 2018 delivered Model 3

I read elsewhere on the internet that the pictured, and held out by screw driver largest red wire in that bunch, can be tapped for 12v, however when I measure voltage with that red wire and the also pictured ground nut, or the grounding point next to the driver's seat under the trim, I get 2v...

12v switched power available once vehicle detects authorized phone, fob, or keycard?

I am aware of but from other videos I understand this pin only has 12v applied to it when Sentry mode is on, or when the car is "awake" (not sure if this means after detecting an authorized unlock device, or once a door handle has been opened). Unfortunately I won't the opportunity to test this...

Aftermarket accessory install: Source of 12v power only when phone w/app / fob is detected in range

Thanks for your reply Garlan Garner. I am familiar with Arduino, but haven't touched programming micro controllers since the PICAXE days ;) I have a friend who is well into them though, so should be able to get some help there. I presume that the "power relay connected to one of the outputs...

Aftermarket accessory install: Source of 12v power only when phone w/app / fob is detected in range

Hi M109Rider, Sorry, seems I wasn't clear enough. I am not reinventing the wheel. The testing I am doing is with one of those commercially available kick sensors that is designed (though it is all passive, so I use that word loosely) to (using ultrasonics) pop the trunk. I have it working (as in...

Aftermarket accessory install: Source of 12v power only when phone w/app / fob is detected in range

I am working on testing a kick sensor for the Model 3 for the frunk and realised the 'trapped person' button inside the frunk is constantly active, meaning tapping this button to pop the trunk with the kick sensor also allows opening the frunk while the car is locked. I am aware that there is...
