Long, LONG time Tesla...analyst I guess at this point. AMA about what's going on in the news.

I'd be most confident about their market share through 2026 or so. The real competition is BYD, VW and Hyundai/Kia. Tesla really has about a 40% market share globally if you remove PHEV and minicars from the numbers. I would anticipate that rate of growth will be limited by battery and battery...

I think his public facing actions in person, on social media and as reported in the media are not the full story. Have you ever seen a politician pivot abruptly on a topic? Why do they so quickly change what their influence is to the public? What are they saying in private? Remember Lindsay...

FSD and all ADAS features only need to be provably better than a human driver to succeed. Will some driver oversight be required? Eventually. Does this mean that FSD/EAP are worthless before this point? No. FSD/EAP that makes the vehicle safer than a human is very valuable. A true, driverless...

Likely that radar as it existed was not in sum beneficial. It was helpful in some situations but harmful in others. Radar or other sensors added in the future will not be same technology, if added.

I do not think it is all macro, no. I do not think TWTR ownership issue is as it seems. It's not what you are reading, too superficial. I think that the relationships, the allies, the folks involved in Musk's sphere are a geopolitical nightmare from taking on massive entrenched and competing...

Since 2010, I've spent hours (often hours per day) researching electric vehicles and Tesla in particular. The only upside to this, well, obsession (according to the wife) is investing early and holding forever. I've seen ALL the FUD. Read almost everything you can think of and then some...

Ah, thanks, these are in the Penthouse. A better look at the manual: Steering rack AND lower column ABS, traction control Brake pipes and Front bumper carrier, Fascia, Grill, tow hooks Front energy absorber Front inner panels (43 in total), including the rails, many of which are structural...

One more totaled or not? How to fight insurance? [OP reports totaled 12.19.2022]

Update, this is fun: 1. Our insurance is doing the appraisal, not the at fault. (always do this) 2. Our appraiser walked around at the tow yard and states repair estimated at $11,000. 3. That appraisal includes the following - Front bumper/grill $1165 - front lights $2250 - front radiator...

Head on, other driver speeding and crossed center line and determined to be at fault. His insurance handling the claim. Tow lot appraisal states "repairable" and we would expect next steps to take to Tesla certified body repair for their opinion, and know one locally. Structural damage possible...

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

Lots of great thoughts here. I just compared builds for a R1S vs Model Y. I tried to keep as similar as possible. MY: LR, tow hitch, 7 seats, EAP, 320 mi: $79k R1S: Explore, Dual motor, large battery 320 mi: $78500 with tax credit... I mean, why would anyone buy a Y? Charging network, available...

    Elon Musk

Most of this is not true. Musk was for all intents, a founder. Eberhardt had a prototype only that never would have become a production car. @enn_nafnlaus on Twitter has deep threads/receipts on this issue. He was not given an emerald mine, nor riches from it. He was abused by his father and...

    Elon & Twitter

Dems: Did a deal with UAW/Detroit for votes. They cannot mention or promote Tesla. It explains why the ONLY call out Musk when deriding the very real issues about tax and income inequity. This is a tell. Other billionaires are actively dismantling democracy and corrupting our govt with dirty...

    Shorting Oil, Hedging Tesla

Hmmm. SCO back in my consideration...I expect a recovery in oil price as COVID recovers in the coming years...but the headwinds, consolidation and stranded assets are so clear now that most major institutions are divesting/excluding up to 30% of their portfolios based on fossil fuel exposure...

How much $ to retire and how to fund your lifestyle in retirement

Start your curiosities now. Between outdoor activities, astronomy, music, computers, woodworking, travel and climate advocacy I already have too full of a schedule to work BEFORE I've retired! Those who fail at retirement have a lack of creativity really.

How much $ to retire and how to fund your lifestyle in retirement

Ditto, 50yo here. We will be messing around for the next 5 years to see if we are ready at 55 but will continue to work part time and live part time in lower COL areas. Our spending will go down over 70% once kids gone too.

I agree re: XOM puts. Also, back to JHM's original thesis on SCO moving in contrast to TSLA...I don't think we are quite there yet but over the next 12 to 24 months watch it closely!! Especially if the DOW and SCO move discordantly. I'd buy at <$10-15 over the next few years waiting on the...

    '13 -14' Model S vs. 17'-18' Bolt

Can anyone comment on known issues with 2013 or 14 Model S? Here is what I worry about outside of warranty: 1. Drive train replacement 2. Battery degredation (1%/year?) 3. Gremlins re: self-presenting handles 4. Slow charge times.
  37. Erleichda

    '13 -14' Model S vs. 17'-18' Bolt

Model S will be available used for about same price as an 18' Bolt. Hence the comparison. Buying such an early model year seems...risky. But I'd prefer another Tesla over Bolt. M3 won't be 20k for 2-3 more years.

    '13 -14' Model S vs. 17'-18' Bolt

Looking to find a low 20k car. I can find Chevy Bolt in this category, but the cheapest Model S is around 30k. A S60 might be less. We had a 2013 Model S P85, sold for our Model X. Now I'm thinking of going back. Other than MCU, and no warranty...what issues would you expect? I'm not...

    Taycan Takedown

Not great because you just said it: nobody will buy it because of price:value. They COULD/SHOULD have made a great care that WILL sell like hotcakes. We know they could have. They didn't That speaks volumes.
  43. Erleichda

    Taycan Takedown

VAG isn't making record profits though. Porsche profits are from their CUV and SUVs by sales figures. Then number of track cars is so far beyond a niche as to be negligible. And yes, Corvettes suck. Second, if you haven't built for autonomy (and I'd agree a track car is the last thing that...

Model S to the Nürburgring Next Week!

Momentum is key to all racing. EVs have this weird new world where momentum can be programmed...that's never been possible before with ICE. If heat management is like the 3P, then momentum should be too. Hence my point above. Take a 3P and give it SP power: Taycan may be in trouble. All...

Model S to the Nürburgring Next Week!

EVs use regenerative power to slow far more than the brake rotors/pads. They weigh about the same. I'm not thinking this is a big difference.

    Taycan Takedown

Porsche totally ****ed up. $1 Billion on development. Compare to Tesla. For that amount of money, they COULD develop a car that either cannabilizes their sports cars, their CUVs or their saloon. They pick: the saloon. OK, a Model S competitor. They want it to be better, so therefore better...

    Taycan Takedown

Lost you by number 6. Remember that the new roadster directly attacks the toucan. Model S doesn't have to be a track monster (but we shall see what happens at the Ring next week) Tesla wins on all fronts really. I don't get comments about fit/finish. It's dramatically improved since...
