No Dimming Side Mirrors on Model Y?

So on the Model Y site, it no longer says dimming mirrors and in the latest release of the manual, there is no mention of dimming mirrors. Just waiting for an actual owner to chime in.

No Dimming Side Mirrors on Model Y?

The midsize luxury SUV vehicle class. The fact that it is electric has nothing to do with it having dimming windows or not.
  3. D

No Dimming Side Mirrors on Model Y?

Can someone confirm for once and for all if the Model Y has dimming side mirrors? I heard it doesn't and was flabbergasted that a vehicle in this class wouldn't have such a basic feature so please confirm this isn't the case.

Range increase (split from Master Thread: 2019.40.2)

Indeed the car did show 310 miles as the max range for the first month or so until whatever software version dropped that bumped it up to 322.

Range increase (split from Master Thread: 2019.40.2)

Yep! Maybe because mine is a 2020? The website showed 322 miles when I ordered the car but it took a few software updates until the range meter updated to show 322.

Range increase (split from Master Thread: 2019.40.2)

My stealth shows 322 miles so that isn't it. It's definitely your old software version. You'll be GTG once it gets updated. Not sure why they send cars out with that super old version.

Will the Model Y get a heat pump?

This isn't a matter of efficiency, it's a matter of effectiveness. Of course a heat pump is more efficient. My concern is that it won't be effective when it is very cold. Already the PTC heater in the model 3 can struggle to keep up when it's really cold and you are driving fast since so much...
  8. D

Will the Model Y get a heat pump?

Even at 0 there isn't a lot of heat to be pumped. You are trying to extract heat from 0 degree air and move it up a gradient to try and blow say 80 degree air in to the cabin to try and maintain 70 degrees. Thankfully someone found a patent by Tesla where they are using the compressor motor to...

Will the Model Y get a heat pump?

Bad news for you. It is very unlikely that a solely heat pump based system is going to work better in really cold temperatures. You will be asking the system to pump heat from outside to the inside. When it is -30 there isn't really a whole lot of heat to be pumped. I am really interested to see...

Every time I enter my car, it initiates a phone call to my phone?

My car does this if I leave the Wyze security camera app running on my phone.

Right door pillar camera blocked or blinded

I'm not seeing this issue on clear nights. Only when it's raining/snowing. If you look at the camera feeds in these conditions you can see why it says it's blocked. The water completely covers the lens and makes the video all but impossible to make out especially when headlights are involved...

Right door pillar camera blocked or blinded

I have been driving in dark and rainy conditions the last few nights and I have been getting the messages saying various cameras cannot see. I can't really see how Tesla expects these cars to safely navigate roads when the cameras can be so easy blocked with water/dirt/snow. Seems like they...

Right door pillar camera blocked or blinded

I wonder what Tesla's solution to this will be? I can't think of much that can be done when the sun is shining right in to a camera that wouldn't cause the rest of the image to be extremely underexposed.

    Ghosting windscreen model 3

Can confirm. My VW Golf R was built much more carefully and with much higher standards than my Model 3.

FSD vs. AP latest updates compared.. Is it worth it?

I hope it works out for you and other people in your same position. I have never been one to buy vaporware. If it worked well enough for me to take a nap on the way the work, I *might* be willing to spend $7k on such a system. If I have to sit there and diligently babysit it, no way I would...

FSD vs. AP latest updates compared.. Is it worth it?

I am always amazed at the amount of people that say that what basically amounts to automatic lane changes is worth $7,000. Sure there are other features you get with "FSD" but generally speaking, they don't work very great and are useful under limited circumstances. I have asked several people...

    Stealth Performance Now Available!

Have you tried tracking the car while it's in dyno mode? Should be no nanny intervention at all.

Range increase (split from Master Thread: 2019.40.2)

My charging screen in the app estimates 320 mile range now that I am on 2020.4.1. Before this software, it never went above 310.

Oh.. if the ports aren't even providing power I'd lean more towards a hardware issue. I'm sure the mobile tech will be able to sort it out.

Mine has done this twice now. It comes back by resetting the MCU.

    Autopilot getting worse

Yes, my car seems to make no attempt at avoiding parked vehicles. I have even set the speed down to like 5 mph to see what it would do and its clear that it would smash right into cars parked along the side of the road if I let it.

Anyone LR AWDs Showing 322 Miles Fully Charged?

I'm on the latest software and mine still shows less than 310 miles.

MASTER THREAD: 2019.40.50.x - Driving Visualization improvements, new voice commands, Camping Mode

My car came from the factory with 35.102 (or something weird like that) and I was pleasantly surprised to find that one pedal driving was very similar to my BMW i3. That is to say, I almost never had to use the brake pedal. Then the 40.X series dropped and I find myself using the friction brakes...

MASTER THREAD: 2019.40.50.x - Driving Visualization improvements, new voice commands, Camping Mode

I saw that thread. It really doesn't make any sense to me how that could cause the issue especially when there is no adjacent traffic or something for the distance sensors to be picking up and causing the car to move around while also not displaying the little perimeter alert visualizations.

MASTER THREAD: 2019.40.50.x - Driving Visualization improvements, new voice commands, Camping Mode

I realize this is asking a lot and you probably don't have a way to facilitate this request but if you do, can you record video of your car while you go for a drive on the freeway? I would love to see if it looks like your car has trouble staying in the center because I can definitely see on the...

What are the guidelines for using Autopilot on roads with cross traffic?

There have been way too many improvements to the car's ability to drive around the city on AP to claim that Tesla isn't working on its abilities in those environments or to try and claim that those new behaviors are just a result of improvements to allow AP to handle the freeway better because...

MASTER THREAD: 2019.40.50.x - Driving Visualization improvements, new voice commands, Camping Mode

Anyone else get the impression that these last few software releases have greatly reduced the number of on-screen visualizations of things they actually care about (cars, bikes, pedestrians) in order to show things that are, in my opinion, less important like cones and trash cans? Even though...
  30. D

What are the guidelines for using Autopilot on roads with cross traffic?

That would be the expectation but doubtful that will be the reality. People still want to be able to use cruise control around town and if Tesla can't figure that out, that will push some customers, like myself, to look at other vehicles that are able to handle a seemingly simple task.

MASTER THREAD: 2019.40.50.x - Driving Visualization improvements, new voice commands, Camping Mode

I still have the same experience as others here when I try to use voice control. It works the first time probably ~75% of the time. Trying to send a text message via dictation is a frustrating experience currently.
  32. D

What are the guidelines for using Autopilot on roads with cross traffic?

I am super curious how they are going to handle this feature split as well. I have HW3 but not FSD so I will be watching to see how the behavior of my car changes parallel with developments towards their goal of FSD.
  33. D

What are the guidelines for using Autopilot on roads with cross traffic?

I think this thread can be put to bed. Its a clear answer at this point. The guideline is just as the user manual states. TACC is not to be used on roads where cross traffic can occur and if it is used, the driver must be prepared for unexpected behavior. Additionally, at least a few of us hope...
  34. D

What are the guidelines for using Autopilot on roads with cross traffic?

I 100% agree with you. A lot of the issue I have seen is that new owners don't know what the car can and cannot do safely. Much of the information here and elsewhere seems to be curated with negative anecdotes suppressed (for various reasons) so the only narrative most people will see is "look...
  35. D

What are the guidelines for using Autopilot on roads with cross traffic?

Yes? It behaves unexpectedly even in conditions where it is supposed to work. Phantom braking on the freeway at 70 mph is not a desirable behavior and you can't use the excuse "tHe ManUal sAyS nOt To UsE iT In ThoSe CoNdiTiOns."
  36. D

What are the guidelines for using Autopilot on roads with cross traffic?

Oh my goodness! YES! Thank you! Someone who isn't arguing just to be obtuse. Yes this is exactly what I have been trying to say. I understand that the system *currently* only works under a very limited set of conditions and all the other comments I have made were simply to convey how it "should"...

MASTER THREAD: 2019.40.50.x - Driving Visualization improvements, new voice commands, Camping Mode

For those that live in colder climates, have you seen this behavior from regen? Basically, regen will be limited at say 50% when it is 40 degrees outside (which seems like a lot of lost regen in a not extremely cold situation but that is a topic for another thread) and I will be going say 60 mph...
  38. D

What are the guidelines for using Autopilot on roads with cross traffic?

There are common exceptions to all of your counter-points. TACC needs to handle those exceptions safely and right now it doesn't. Here is a good example that happened recently. I was driving up a steep hill on the freeway in the left lane and I was traveling approximately 70 mph with a few cars...

MASTER THREAD: 2019.40.50.x - Driving Visualization improvements, new voice commands, Camping Mode

Been my experience as well. Although, I feel like this version might be a little bit better but I concede it might just be some kind of placebo effect. I felt like it would just kind of sway all the time no matter if the road was straight, curved, congested or empty. Now, I feel like it takes...

    Rando-braking

You are one of the lucky few then. Make sure you never get complacent with the system because this can and will happen to you at some point in the future. It is just a matter of when.
  41. D

What are the guidelines for using Autopilot on roads with cross traffic?

The manual also includes the ultimate legal catch-all and says TACC is not to be used on "roads with constantly changing traffic conditions." Does that not also preclude freeways in your opinion? Fact of the matter is, TACC still sucks even on the freeway with random and unexpected phantom...

What are the guidelines for using Autopilot on roads with cross traffic?

If my car can do something that causes another car to rear-end me, that is dangerous.
  43. D

MASTER THREAD: 2019.40.50.x - Driving Visualization improvements, new voice commands, Camping Mode

Then yeah... I have no idea what the causal factor is for this one. Seems entirely random to me.
  44. D

What are the guidelines for using Autopilot on roads with cross traffic?

Regardless of the designer's intentions for the system, the statement that "TACC is useless/dangerous/xxx on city streets" is still factually correct. All I want is for Tesla to make it work safely on the roads that the vast majority of people are driving around on most often.

Tesla may have been on Autopilot in California crash which killed two

I agree with you. Tesla has been working on this software for half a decade now and I'm just not seeing the kind of progress that I was hoping for. Every day my car does something whacky and I'm reminded that FSD is still a long ways away and likely to not ever work on my car's hardware without...

how confident are you with autosteer? sometimes autosteer steer me towards highway median.

I wish you could "guide" it to where you want it to hang out in the lane by applying slight pressure with the steering wheel until it catches on and stays there with the hope that it would eventually learn your preference and do that in the same locations on future drives.
  47. D

    Rando-braking

This will probably happen to anyone who uses TACC/AP regularly. My theory is that many of these events that I have experienced are caused by inaccurate lane tagging of adjacent slower moving traffic. That is to say, my car misjudges cars in the next lane as being in my lane and thus slows down...

Thanks for doing that! So we can rule that out then. Do you have Android or Apple? Edit: I'm blind. Saw you have an Apple phone up above. Now we just need someone with an Android phone to do the exact thing and confirm that it doesn't cause the crashing. Only thing pointing to special...
