Model Y DIY Xpel Ultimate PPF

@jimmerjohn123 how'd the front bumper go if you did it ? I keep coming back to this thread. Tempted to do it but afraid. I only want the front. It seems like the part that's most in harms way or at least getting the occasional scuff. Like others, it's not worth $1500 to save the few scrapes and...

Smaller and Lighter wheels make you faster, more efficient, and offer better road hazard protection.

I'm convinced there are enough practical benefits to 18's. Is there a good forged (or sufficiently light) aero wheel option for 18" ? I was hoping to get the aero highway range boost. I saw an earlier thread where people were using M3 stock aero wheels.

    18" wheel on model Y

Is there a consensus best value forged 18 wheel (or wheels) ? V-FORGED VF10 are $550 at Discount Tire or perhaps Martian MW03. Granted Flow Forged may be sufficient for our driving. I was a little bummed the Gemini's are cast. Do any of the after-market forged wheels offer aero options ? Even...

Should you wait for 2023 Tesla Model Y Long Range with 4680 Battery or by Tesla now? [Jan 2023]

@tangible1 so for a non-FSD purchase today (delivery in summer) there's no reason to get the AWD model ? The 2nd gen (or 3rd gen whenever they appear) won't offer range improvements but instead are all about Tesla getting their lines up-to-speed ? I'm willing to take the risk of missing the next...

Should you wait for 2023 Tesla Model Y Long Range with 4680 Battery or by Tesla now? [Jan 2023]

Good thread. I'm in the same decision boat. We live a few hours from Portland so range matters more but so does charge speed. I assume Tesla isn't software-limiting the AWD Y's range during some trial period for the new batteries. Noise and charging speed and $3k would be a tough trade for 50...

NOV2022: Just Took Delivery of My 2023 TESLA Model Y LR/AWD

Did Tesla resolve the handling, quality, noise issues vs the 3 ? I assume the "Comfort Suspension" feature is to address some of that. I had sold my 3 to get a Y (which was delayed several years). I can use the space and extra ground clearance (albeit not tons extra) vs my 3.

Model Y LR with 4680 any clue when ?

No compelling benefit at all ? Not structural or charge speed ? Just as well. It's been a long time.

Model Y LR with 4680 any clue when ?

Apologies for the new thread on this. I didn't find recent posts since Oct. The charge time of the 4680 (or what advantages I recall) prompted a re-check. Last I checked, only Austin built standard range Y's MIGHT have them (forget if there's even a way to decode the vin to see what's in there).

Model 3 Injury protection features/design vs other EV's

in 2018 the model 3 received an NHTSA rating that was the lowest injury probability of any car measured. The article lists several safety measures that make the 3 so safe (structural members, crumple zone design, bumper beams, body crush protection and others mentioned in the post). I saw a...

    4680 Battery for Model 3 - when?

Just asking the same question. Looks like it may be some time yet for the Model 3. Best estimate I could find was March 2023 estimate for mass production of 4680.Scaling Up is Hard Work so for the model 3 at least, sounds like it's going to be Spring 2023 soonest. This article too: Tesla 4680...

    Redesign/4680 "Holdout Buyers" Discussion

Good to see I'm not alone. We live 3 hours from the major metro area so the range increase is valuable. Not impossible without but really helpful to have. Watching all the price bumps has given me more than a little indigestion. One friend suggested leasing to take the "game changer feature"...

    7 Seater Pics and Details

For me the third row solves the shoulder room issue instead of legroom. We have three kids as well and my hope is there's just enough room in that third row for the shortest one. Three in the 2nd row is just trouble for us. Fights happen in no time. Most of the reason they prefer our Odyssey...

    Cybertruck With FSD

When you say "but it's not" what are you referring to ? I get that I shouldn't click "update". I find the way they've conveyed the information confusing. I'll park it though till it gets closer to delivery. I was merely attempting to confirm I'd gotten the initial price.
  15. C

    Cybertruck With FSD

OK, I hope that's the case. It's still odd in that I've already selected FSD but the display suggests I'm paying $10k currently. So it's not super clear. It would make more sense to display that if I hadn't and was going to add it. Sounds like I'm safe though. Wish I could find my old...

    Cybertruck With FSD

When I view my reservation (which I haven't previously edited) it shows FSD 10k. Shouldn't it show up as 8k ? It was made around Cybertruck release time. Not sure exactly when but long before the FSD price increase.

Might the new battery tech be worthy of a new vehicle order delay

Elon's comments mention the new batteries specifically for shorter range Y's (at first). Anyone know what unique need the shorter range vehicles have that the new batteries fill ? It almost seems backward. I mentioned Lucid due to their faster charging, greater range. They may be later than...

Might the new battery tech be worthy of a new vehicle order delay

Just saw: Tesla Model Y from Giga Berlin will utilize 4680 cells and structural battery pack Indicates LFP 4680 cells will trickle down to Fremont factory as well but seemed destined specifically for medium range cars. Not sure the reason but appears that for long range customers like myself...

Might the new battery tech be worthy of a new vehicle order delay

The greater range would help. We're 3+ hours away from the next big town over a mountain range so any extra range is a plus. I The 3 had enough range but if there was an option available for more, I'd consider the upgrade. And yes, I realize that future improvements are always out there. Who...

Might the new battery tech be worthy of a new vehicle order delay

I realize they're two years out and that two years is uncertain but they have great potential of higher range, lower cost, perhaps lighter weight. The benefits were substantial and across the board. Barring immediate vehicle needs it would be a shame to purchase a new Tesla of any model to have...

    Cybertruck back seat width

None of my kids like the middle Odyssey seat so a few inches wider was my hope and it sounds like that's the case. I wish Tesla made the Cybertruck in a Sprinter format instead of a pickup but that's just my selfish wish.

    Cybertruck back seat width

We have 3 kids and want to know what the chances they'd be happy enough in the back of a cybertruck for it to replace our minivan. They love our 3 but on longer drives, they prefer our Odyssey. There's so much the Cybertruck would do for us but I can't find the interior width (hip room?) measure...

Anyone know a good contact at TSportsline for a return

I bought a set of TSportline TST Flow Forged 18 wheels for a Model 3 thinking the black friday price was too good to pass up (it's now their regular price) and that the wheels could also work on a Model Y. The person I spoke to tells me they won't take them back after 30 days. Anyone know a good...

3rd Row Seat - Does it reduce cargo space ?

Is there no hatch on the 3rd row model ? It's not a deal breaker for us but we do occasionally need to squeeze in one more kid on a trip (we're 5 already) so it would be handy but I may not have 2021 patience. Just sold our 3 so now I'll be super antsy to replace it.
  26. C

3rd Row Seat - Does it reduce cargo space ?

Sounds like it comes down to the shape/size of the hatch space, 3rd row seat ever happening and the $3k. 3rd row could be useful. Heck, I the 3rd row seat price of $3k is probably about the value of our 07 Odyssey. Here's a photo of the hatch. Odd thing is seems like this hatch area would be...

3rd Row Seat - Does it reduce cargo space ?

Good to know, I guess we won't have to wait long but has anyone seen a photo of a non-3rd row interior trunk ? It's odd that Tesla left the 3rd row photo on their order page when you can't order one and may never be able to.
  28. C

3rd Row Seat - Does it reduce cargo space ?

Besides the obvious hurdle of it's uncertain availability, is there a potential downside of losing cargo space ? Normally the cargo space in cars is level with the folded down seatback so curious what the potential downside is to this configuration in lost space, if any. I've seen a few videos...

3rd Row seat in Model Y is really tight

Thought that was the case but annoying it would be that misleading. Also can't seem to edit my car without it ditching the 3rd row.

3rd Row seat in Model Y is really tight

Weird thing is the account "Manage my car" page for my Y order - with 3rd row - says: Prepare for delivery

3rd Row seat in Model Y is really tight

I got that letter. I sure wish I could compare the two side-by-side. It would be nice to have. We'll likely just keep our Odyssey for >5 passengers. It's not likely even worth what the $3k 3rd row would cost.
  32. C

3rd Row seat in Model Y is really tight

We have a 3 and and an Odyssey. (and I bet we get close to 2x the MPG of a Suburban, They're worlds different vehicles). We can put all in the 3 2nd row for now but it's pretty tight and nobody's > 100lbs yet. They greatly prefer the Odyssey for any drive much over 20 min. The back row of the 3...

    Thanks to everyone. Super helpful.

    How's the X for 3+ kids ?

Need to look at pictures to see what room there is behind the 3rd row. We were surprised when the kids asked us to take the Odyssey (it's showing it's age) on the last long drive. It's certainly spacious but now kinda smells. Backing up with the 3" after-market screen isn't fun either. Probably...

    How's the X for 3+ kids ?

Did you have a kid in the 3rd row regularly on the Highlander ? Just wondering how they liked it and the hassle level getting in and out.
  36. C

    How's the X for 3+ kids ?

Still figuring out our car setup. Right now I have a 3, CRV and Odyssey (07) and 3 kids all 6th - 9th grade (kid seats are history for us). I shopped for 3-row SUV's like the Highlander a few years back. Nice as they were, they all seemed like a pain for the kid that gets stuck in the 3rd row...

Whether to consider a Model Y for Off-Road and in deeper snow ?

Just got a nudge email from Tesla telling me if I ditch the 3rd row, I'll get my Y soon. Tesla sales tells me the 3rd row isn't quite large enough for even small humans so time to decide. A working hitch mount + roof mount rack options would help even if the 3rd row isn't really usable.
  38. C

Whether to consider a Model Y for Off-Road and in deeper snow ?

Cybertruck would do a lot for us. We're not hard core in trails and deep snow, we just need one vehicle capable of the task. We originally balked on the cost of a model X. The $85k base is a lot for a secondary car - or any car really amazing as they are. I'd have gladly settled for a Y that...

Whether to consider a Model Y for Off-Road and in deeper snow ?

The Y is so similar to the 3 that it doesn't help fill the gaps in the space/clearance/rack needs. I'm not yet ready to spring for the X. At least for me, the cost is just too high for a second vehicle despite the fact that it checks the other boxes provided by the CRV We also keep our 07...

Whether to consider a Model Y for Off-Road and in deeper snow ?

No doubt the Y is faster. Merging into traffic with our CRV takes some praying and sweating. I may indeed have to wait for future air suspension option though. And I'd certainly consider the truck and likely will a few years from now when it's available. It'll do just about anything. Until then...

Whether to consider a Model Y for Off-Road and in deeper snow ?

We have a Model 3 and a CRV. I'd reserved a Y to replace our CRV. A Y would have made more sense for us than the 3 but of course wasn't an option last year and for most driving, we don't need snow and ground clearance but we live in central Oregon and there's plenty of unpredictable weather and...
