how normal is it for center screen to crash and lose functionality?

I'd say it's fairly common. I've had it happen 3 times in the year I've owned my car. First one the screen went completely black (while I was driving). I pulled over and it rebooted on it's own. The 2nd time I was backing out of my garage and noticed the backup camera screen was black, continued...

Is Windshield Harder to Make Streak-Free Than Others?

I use an automotive squeegee to clean my windshield. Bit of Dawn dish soap and water and it comes out perfect. Wipe the blade before every pass to prevent streaks. Far better than Windex for bugs and road grime.

330 vs Model 3: BMW, the 20th century is calling, they want their car back!

I'll just say it. I think BMW has lost it's way. Wonderful history and some fantastic cars along the way, but they're fumbling the future. Wanna see a nice front end? Look no further than Porsche.

330 vs Model 3: BMW, the 20th century is calling, they want their car back!

Yeah, I had a BMW before my M3 and my wife drives an Audi Q5. The Audi has nice finishes inside and is quiet on the highway. Very comfortable long range cruiser. My BMW had impeccable steering and handling & was fun above 5500 rpm. But...laggy throttle response and way too many buttons. Funny...

    Questions about the climate controls

Yeah, you're right. But you need to turn the temp up again or it gets too cold (A/C running continuously). Not a big deal, but interesting that Tesla designed it like an ICE car where heat is "free" (i.e. engine waste heat).

    Questions about the climate controls

Not exactly. You can turn off the A/C, but not the heat. When I leave in the morning my car turns on the heat, then the A/C after a short bit. Heat the car then use A/C to cool it 10 mins later? I just leave climate off until I need the A/C. I wish there was a way to turn the heat off. It's a...

MASTER THREAD: Auto Wiper functionality, complaints, praise, etc.

Those are real examples of auto wipers not working properly. Wiping when they shouldn't, or not wiping when they should. They must be operated in manual which requires the touch panel. With any other car you can do this without taking your eyes off the road. This car requires you to hit tiny...

MASTER THREAD: Auto Wiper functionality, complaints, praise, etc.

I see you're in CA... My wipers auto run on mountain roads in filtered sunshine (Hwy101, Hwy410). Sunny day, no rain, but forest filtering the sunlight. They just spread squashed windshield bugs. Wipers in manual. Raining at night, especially when lacking street lights. Wipers in manual...

MASTER THREAD: Auto Wiper functionality, complaints, praise, etc.

Actually, not too surprising a driver crashed his car adjusting manually. I think Tesla made a mistake removing the wiper stalk. Unfortunately, I drive in the rain a lot. Auto wipers are OK most of the time and it's possible to use voice commands, but for edge cases (when it's most dangerous to...

If I buy M3 now, will I regret it come Battery Day in Sept?

Reminds me of the old days of computers. Where every year or two a major CPU/software update would obsolete current tech. Then everything got so fast, went to the cloud, and it didn't matter much anymore. Electric cars won't change quite that fast, but I hope for the day when range & battery...

    About to Order

I was able to get incentives when I took delivery on my LR AWD in 9/2019. At the time they offered paint/wheel upgrades and free supercharging for 2 years. I got the exact car I wanted and the supercharging. No way to know if it will happen again. You have a lease until December, so I'd wait to...

Losing Max miles on full charge

@robl45 My 9/2019 LR AWD is the same as yours. Got 279 (@90%) when new, down to 260 this spring, got a couple back this summer (warmer temps). Only 5200 miles on the car, never charged to 100% and only supercharged twice. Lifetime wh/mi is 255. Electric car batteries degrade over time. Way too...

    Free Supercharging is Enabled?

I'm in Seattle, so not sure it applies to Canada. When I took delivery I got referral miles and 2 years of free supercharging (end of quarter promo). Referral miles showed up in my loot box and expired after 6 months. In my Tesla account supercharging went from "pay per use supercharging" to...

Suddenly lost 10 miles of range.

Well if it makes you feel any better I've got a Sept 2019 LR AWD with only 4,800 miles. Got 310 when new, went to 304, and now at 290 (261 @ 90%). Only supercharged twice and plugged into a Tesla wall connector at home. Thought miles might come back now that it's summer, but no luck (and cycling...

    Reliability

I’ve had my LR AWD for 6 months and had 2 repairs done. First was a fog light that went out. Mobile service came to my house and replaced it. The experience was great. Second repair was a rattle in the passenger door. Had to take it to the SC. Was a broken clip and they replaced it. Tesla gave...

    HVAC Air Re-circulation setting changes

I’m in a rainy place and yes the windows fog up. Clean windshield helps a lot. Also turn on the AC to dehumidify the car. If it fogs a lot I use the defroster, no way around it. I’m still able to get about 270Wh/mi though. Not giving up the car!

    Disconnecting After Charging Completed

As long as your phonekey is recognized you can remove the charge cable by pressing & holding the button. I do think the car needs a couple seconds to "wake up" and do all things necessary to safely pull the cable out. Also, the car doesn't unlock just because your phonekey is within range. Would...

    Disconnecting After Charging Completed

My home wall connector and every supercharger I've used slide in/out of my charge port easily. I assume you hear it unlocking before you pull it out. If it still feels stuck, schedule mobile service to fix it. It's probably an easy fix.

New to Tesla/EVs - Home charging install options

We have our Tesla wall connector installed between 2 bays in our garage. It can easily reach both parking spots. Although we have 1 Tesla at the moment, it would be easy to share the connector as we don’t drive that much each day.

Any rumors on adding to or upgrading the battery on a Model 3?

I think the idea of replaceable and upgrade able EV batteries makes sense. Eventually, Tesla and other manufacturers will need to design cars with service and recycling in mind. The idea of disposable cars doesn’t make sense for the “mission”. Will be a big issue when annual production gets in...

Installing a NEMA outlet on a hard wired 240v hot tub circuit?

Not sure why you rent if you can afford 2 Tesla's? Why not delay the Y and buy a house instead. You'll have total control over future charging.

Model 3 Performance steering way too quick?

You should get your alignment checked. Otherwise, I think it's the combination of heavy car and soft winter tires. Try again after the weather warms and you put your summer tires on.

    Best way to preheat battery

I agree. I usually charge my car when it's warm after driving it. Never pre-heat as the cabin & seat heaters work well. Don't care about the loss of regen in winter vs. wasting energy to heat the battery.
  25. T

    which range to choose?

You should get as much range as you can afford, in my opinion the LR AWD. Give's you flexibility in winter and accounts for some normal battery degradation over several years.

1st Electricity Bill since purchasing the tesla.

@P3d - feel for you dude. You should move to Washington. Second lowest electric rates in the country and no state income tax either.

Model 3 Heater Blows Cold Air

It's a resistance heater that only takes a minute for the warm air to flow, faster than an ICE car. Your HVAC is turned on right? Otherwise, you need to make a service appointment.

Sell my 2018 to buy 2020? Am I crazy?

I'm glad you came to your senses. Work on your suspension and tires if you want to improve your car's handling. Add the $2k acceleration boost if you want almost as much power as the M3P. I also came from BMW (e92) and think that car when new out handled my M3 LR/AWD. It was lighter, had summer...

How many amps can you get from the 12V system for emergency situations?

Sorry, I still don't get it. Why power your house with your Tesla. It wasn't designed for that. Gas generator hooked into your house thru a transfer switch powers everything you choose. That includes your refrigerator, HVAC, TV & computers, you name it. Power goes out and you still live in...

100 kWh Battery Coming Soon to Model 3?

I think most of you are thinking about this the wrong way. With the billions being spent on battery technology, energy density is already improving. Not too far away are 500mi at lower battery weight. You think you wouldn't want that? I'll buy one right away and so will many current ICE owners...

    Vibration with aftermarket wheels

Rebalance the tire/wheels. Torque lug nuts to 129 lb-ft with a quality torque wrench. I assume you feel the vibration through the steering wheel. You can also try moving the fronts to the rear.

    Brakes did not engage!

One pedal driving (regen) with a Tesla is different than an ICE car. When driving an ICE car, if you think you may need to slow down you'll move your foot from the accelerator and hover it over the brake pedal. If you need to stop you just push down, foot already over the brake pedal. With a...

    New battery degradation monitoring tool

I thought the article was useful. How operation in high ambient temps and supercharging correlated to increased degradation. Tesla has the logs for the Model 3 fleet. Now that would be interesting data (crown jewels).

Realistic wait times for home charging adapters?

Tesla sent me an order confirmation email for my wall connector. The next day another email confirmed it shipped with a tracking number. I used that to schedule my electrician. Let your electrician install everything. No headaches and you get the electrician's warranty.

2 yr free super charging not showing up

My sales advisor said my 2 years free supercharging was approved, so I didn't follow-up again. In November I noticed my Tesla account (details) updated to: "Free Supercharging is currently enabled". My loot box still shows the remainder of my referral miles.

    Getting by with only supercharging

In the "cards" section of the display (bottom left corner) swipe to open your trip data. You'll see miles & Wh/mi (EV version of mpg). Keep an eye on this. In warm weather I'm around 240Wh/mi, in winter I can hit 260Wh/mi if I don't use the heater much. As high as 300Wh/mi in freezing temps with...

    Charging 2 Tesla’s on 100amp main - advice needed

The safety of your family and your neighbors must come first. Your 100A panel is tiny. If you can afford 2 Tesla’s you can afford to do this right. 1) upgrade your electrical service to 200A. or 2) have a licensed electrician do your load calculation. Share a single wall charger between the...

    Wall Charger Availability

I would wait and make due. My wall connector's 24' cable can reach all 3 bay's in my garage. The excess cable just loops around the top of the charger, so it's very tidy. In the meantime get quotes to have it installed. Electricians can use a photo of your panel to verify you've got 60A available.
