It takes a lot of energy to preheat the battery in the morning, maybe I shouldn’t?

Yes, it may, but this thread is specifically about preconditioning BEFORE driving and that's the use mode I was referencing.

It takes a lot of energy to preheat the battery in the morning, maybe I shouldn’t?

He's not wrong, technically. Using "shore power" to precondition instead of the battery charge itself reduces the daily cycling depth of the battery over time and would indeed reduce degradation. How much it would reduce it might be nominal, but every battery has a max amount of useful cycles...

It takes a lot of energy to preheat the battery in the morning, maybe I shouldn’t?

That's not true. My car sat at work the other day and the lowest ambient temp was 37F. Drove home and charged from 70-80% SOC and it sat in my heated garage overnight (55F). In the morning when I started pre-conditioning the car, it heated the battery for a few mins too. Battery definitely...

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

Ah, there you go. You plug in at work and it keeps the battery warm. My car just sits for 8-10 hours in the cold parking lot.

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

I'm really surprised you didn't lose any regen at all last week. I have a 7 mile commute (obviously less than you), but I also have a heated garage and pre-conditioned for 20+ mins before leaving in the mornings and by the time I was driving home in the early afternoon I had absolutely zero...

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

So you don't refute anything said, but instead poke fun at reference links and then put someone on your ignore list because they disagree with your assertions? Jeez I fully expect to end up on "ignore" too.

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

I also haven't been able to find anything to quantify it. My hypothesis is that the larger factor is that the LFP Teslas are all single motor and don't have standalone battery heaters so they just don't have the same battery heating capacity as dual motor cars or the S/X that have standalone...

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

Yea, seems like a number of contributing factors in the Chicago area charger issues. The first is compared to how large a metro area we have, we have comparatively less supercharger density vs. other metro areas. Add to that a TON of LFP Model 3s out there doing rideshare with people driving...

    371 Wh/km (600 Wh/Mile) consumption in the deep freeze

Not quite as cold down here in the Chicago area but consumption is definitely up in my PTC heat car. Car works flawlessly despite the cold.

Yup. Still better than not being able to turn them off at all.

Check again. The holiday update gave the ability to switch the wipers off while autopilot is engaged back to the driver.

Dead 2020 Model 3 - outside of warranty

After reading the outcome here, I'm having my 12V preemptively replaced next week when mobile service comes out to fix a finicky trunk sensor. Car is almost 4 years old and I'm betting the battery is on borrowed time.

My 5+ years of "low maintenance" ownership

I wanted to add some context to this statement. A handful of Luxury manufacturers include free maintenance for the first 3/36. Only Acura, BMW, Genesis and Volvo do. That said, there is almost nothing besides oil changes, air filters and tire rotations that are due on those vehicles for the...

Rumbling noise with balanced wheels and normal alignment

You're on the right track, but I will say the negative camber, unless it's really aggressive (-2 degrees or more) won't wear the inside edge of the tire. If you tried to pull the camber out (which I don't even know if the model 3 suspension has the adjustability to do) you're going to hurt how...

Rumbling noise with balanced wheels and normal alignment

No problem. Unfortunately the only remedy to get rid of the nose is new tires, but I'd want to get down to the cause before I'd buy new tires.
  19. vogz

Rumbling noise with balanced wheels and normal alignment

If you brush your fingers across the edge of your tire’s tread block or bar, you’ll be able to feel if your tire has feathering. You’ll feel a softer, smoother surface on the areas that are feathered down. If this pattern is located on the inside of the tread block, this indicates excess toe-in...

Rumbling noise with balanced wheels and normal alignment

Yes, excessive play in suspension bushings can cause toe to go in and out of spec as you drive, but you have very low miles, so I doubt that is the issue. Plus, a suspension issue like that would likely cause a loose feeling and possibly clunking noise from suspension components. Other than that...
  21. vogz

Rumbling noise with balanced wheels and normal alignment

Looks like textbook mild feathering on the inside edge of your tires. That would cause the rumbling noise you're reporting. It's usually caused by out of spec toe causing the tires to "scrub" the inside edge as they spin which causes the tread blocks to wear unevenly from front to back. Your toe...

Oh, I'm familiar. They raised my rates before I dropped the for good. I've already moved on to a local insurance broker who find the best deals and coverage for me and takes care of any back and forth with the insurance company for me so I don't have to sit on hold for hours only to be told...

    Total loss [Is this totaled?]

I would never take it to a shop that my insurance company "recommended". Nothing about my repair was Tesla specific. It was simple body work, blend paint and refinish wheel. I took it to the best auto body shop in the area that I've used for over 2 decades. They do fantastic work. They wanted a...

    Total loss [Is this totaled?]

Body shop (not State Farm preferred) came up with estimate. The original estimate never included the rear bumper as it only had cosmetic damage. The State Farm adjuster wrote a far lower estimate than the body shop estimate. The Model 3 rear bumper cover doesn't attach at the rear 1/4 panel like...

    Total loss [Is this totaled?]

My Model 3 was side swiped about 18 months ago. The paint job is good, but spot body work will never be perfect and you can tell that paint has different metallic fleck and the orange peel does match the oem painted panels. Also, my insurance company (State Farm) wasn't willing to pay for a new...

    Total loss [Is this totaled?]

A car isn't the human body. It can't heal and regenerate itself. There are countless stories out there of cars repaired after moderate accidents that are never the same again. Rattles and paint matching, quality are just a few. There's a reason that accidents lower a vehicle's resale value.

How to prevent from further Corrosion on Axle Shaft and Hub

It's not serious. It's completely normal. The axle stub and the hub are bare steel and therefore susceptible to surface rust. As has been stated before, if you don't like it, apply corrosion protection.

M3P Auto wipers on when in Autopilot normal? [yes]

I keep my windshield pretty clean most of the time. (I clean it regularly between full washes) I hate a dirty windshield. With that said, I haven't had any issues with the wiper activating while using autopilot in dry conditions. CN: Check your windshield for streaks, dirt, bugs and smudges up...

    Question about earlier performance models

I was specifically talking about the pre 2021 refresh model 3 trims which are the only years that hand stealth performance models. I should have been more clear. I agree on that it would not be unlikely to see a performance model with the PUP without the spoiler if the owner didn't follow up...

    Question about earlier performance models

The P motors are identical to the LR motors. The difference is all software. There is no physical differences between a LRAWD car and a stealth P. (well possibly one small one, some stealth P's have red underline badges)

I think I have the wrong Tesla and I kinda hate it, lol

It's amazing to me how many people justify the driving experience compromises of the Y because of the 5% use case of "I might need to put something large in it". Buy your vehicle for your 95% use case, not your 5% and you will be much happier with your purchase. I can count the number of times...

It sounds like the tech might have already been in your car when you locked it from the app. Are you sure it was locked beforehand? I've never had anything like this happen. I need to have my phone within about 5 feet of the car for it to unlock.

    Why 42 PSI ?

What's not true? The max pressure of a tire is the max it should be set at. It will only go up from there as it heats up, which would put tires well over 50psi. At that point ride quality would be total garbage and the tire might even start to wear unevenly. 42 isn't max pressure. It's the...

    Why 42 PSI ?

Recommend tire pressure is based on the vehicle, not the tire itself. That said, you can play with different pressures around the recommended and see what works best for you. Max pressure is just that. Max pressure. You don't want to fill your tires to anywhere near the max pressure since...

My Tesla 3 collision experience [Insurance / repair]

    Winter performance

I've had lowered ride hight by over an inch for almost 3 years now. Goes over speed bumps without a problem. I've never scraped the battery on anything. The only risky thing would be pavement that comes to a really aggressive peak somewhere. I don't think you'd encounter it on most normal roads...
