100% range on new Model Y LR with 3 miles on it calculates to 301 miles

Huh, ok. So degradation threshold is higher despite EPA tested capacity being lower & initial capacity potentially being a little lower as well? And the 302? max displayed range appears to be at the degradation threshold, meaning that the lower than expected rated range is unrelated to initial...

100% range on new Model Y LR with 3 miles on it calculates to 301 miles

100% range on new Model Y LR with 3 miles on it calculates to 301 miles

Degradation threshold is the point at which full charge range begins decreasing, correct? Do we know what that is yet for the 2024 models? So if I understand correctly, for 2023 LR, 330=79kWh. For 2024, 304? = 79kWh?

100% range on new Model Y LR with 3 miles on it calculates to 301 miles

My new 2024 is doing this too. I thought they just changed the efficiency factor. But apparently batteries are being delivered with 79kWh instead of 82 as previously? AND this is less than the quoted 310 miles of EPA range, with all cars actually being delivered at about 2% less? How is that...

Deciding Between older Model S or Newer Model 3

Just responded to someone else on this specific subject, so I'll quote that below. I personally think Model 3 is absolutely the way to go here if the size/body style of the Model 3 meets your needs. Also, if you want a non-fleet-owned Model 3 for a reasonable price, consider mine! :) 2018 Model...

Is this Model S a good deal or keep looking?

Going to promote my own listing here ($17,500 after tax credit, which mine definitely does qualify for), but I think unless there's a good reason that you want the larger size/hatchback of the Model S, that a used Model 3 is going to be a better bet in your price range. You get newer...

Available WTB: model 3 performance or LR with FSD near Kansas city, MO

100k miles and no FSD, so I know this isn't exactly what you are looking for, but my 2018 LR RWD still charges to 289 miles. No front motor means the car feels more nimble than the AWD models. Anyways, if you decide you're interested in getting into something a little cheaper my listing is here...

    Available 2018 Model 3 LR RWD, 103k miles, $21,500 or $17,500 w/ tax credit

Bump, price dropped to $21,500 (= $17,500 with Keysavvy if you qualify for the tax credit). There's a lot of idiots on FB marketplace, would wayyy rather sell to someone on here who knows what they are buying! Here's the listing on Autotrader with more pics

Are there any radar detector mounts for the Model Y?

Anyone know where this wire goes? I'd prefer to know what circuit I'm pulling power from before I start randomly tapping wires 😬

    CCS Retrofit Availability (2023)

Updated with the $117 charge removed. Guess it was just a mistake. My vehicle is a 2018 Model 3 btw. So this would have been a "bundle of wires" vehicle.

AC Desiccant Bag replacement service cost

Less frequent use would definitely explain 6 yrs for non-heatpump Model 3 vs 4 years for those with heatpump. Doing some googling and there's quite a few theads with folks questioning why this is required, but few answers. It's just a matter of time until an engineer who works on one of these...

    CCS Retrofit Availability (2023)

Just got my estimate and it includes a weird $117 charge to "Inspect Vehicle; Vehicle Already Configured For CCS Charging". Guessing this is just a mistake and they'll remove it, will update here once I confirm.

AC Desiccant Bag replacement service cost

Hmm, maybe incompatibility with the oil used in electric compressors then causing an issue? I don't get why they would function differently than your standard automotive A/C compressor. I also wonder if the difference is just that with A/C being an essential part of the drivetrain now...

AC Desiccant Bag replacement service cost

Just got an estimate for A/C service (desiccant bag replacement) from Tesla service in St Louis for $367.50 (before tax). Seems reasonable given what the service is. Just some other comments after reading through this thread: THIS SERVICE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SMELLY A/C ISSUE! It's...

    CCS Retrofit Availability (2023)

Unfortunately for older Model 3s like mine, I’d need the bundle of wires” with resistors that fake a sensor in the charge port. There’s been reports on here of charging faults on Superchargers in certain temperature conditions following this hack.

Does Model 3 ever heat the battery when parked? Conflicting info.

Well just as soon as I posted that it went back to sleep haha. About 6 hours of wake time. I’m wondering if the 12V charging logic pushes a lot lower power into that battery when it’s cold to avoid damage. Already on 44.30.8 and not connected to wifi so don’t think updates are a factor here.
  26. T

Does Model 3 ever heat the battery when parked? Conflicting info.

Interestingly my Model 3 just woke itself from sleep after it’s usual 17 or so hour sleep cycle, but has been awake for over 6 hours now. The car did something similar earlier this week, but fell back asleep after a quick drive cycle. Based on range loss over the past 6 hours, it seems to only...

OBDLink is now powered while car is sleeping

Did you ever test the consumption of the OBDLink? I don't drive daily, and street park (no home charging), so minimizing phantom drain is a priority for me. Could unplug the OBDLink and re-plug only when needed if it's substantial, although that's kind of annoying.
  28. T

Does Model 3 ever heat the battery when parked? Conflicting info.

Lots of ppl seem to think that the car will maintain a minimum battery temp to keep the battery from freezing when SOC is above 20%. E.g. this thread on X. Definitions of "freeze" differ, but the manual does note that you shouldn't leave the ambient temps below -30C. Concern seems to be...

Finally, backup cameras are smooth in the 2023 Holiday Update!

Just upgraded today myself and the map seems quicker and OS generally feels less slow and glitchy. Backup camera is improved, but still saw some dropped frames.

Finally, backup cameras are smooth in the 2023 Holiday Update!

Yea, 44.30.5.1 feels buggy to me. Backup camera lags and randomly drops a ton of frames. Non-camera related, LTE connection takes forever to come up. Spotify crashed on me. @BrianZ what version did you see these improvements on?
  31. T

Finally, backup cameras are smooth in the 2023 Holiday Update!

Awesome! Great to see Tesla is still optimizing code for MCU2. My biggest fear with the lack of upgrade path to MCU3 is that Tesla would leave old customers abandoned and focus attention solely on MCU3, but this appears to not be the case! The crappy frame rate on the cameras has always bugged...

Yea I actually think this is positive. They could have added something generic like “in the future” or switched to “not available at this time” if this wasn’t still imminently planned.

    Vendor Official Tessie app talk

Have a few feature requests based on using Tessie for the last year or so: 1. ability to filter (exclude) multiple tags simultaneously. LR RWD suspension refresh: MPP Comfort Coilovers vs Koni Red vs OEM

MPP lift kit + MPP Comfort non-adjustable set in the middle seems like an interesting option too. Not sure how active MPP is on here, but @MountainPass if you see this, for trying to maintain ground clearance similar to stock without sacrificing handling, would you recommend MPP Comfort...

LR RWD suspension refresh: MPP Comfort Coilovers vs Koni Red vs OEM

Thanks for the input! Yea, I haven't seen much in the way of recommendations on what bushings really need to be replaced at higher mileage, so I figured I'd poke around with the car up one of these days. Upper control arms were replaced at 70k by Tesla when they started squeaking (only paid for...

LR RWD suspension refresh: MPP Comfort Coilovers vs Koni Red vs OEM

The new Highland Model 3 (the one not yet available in North America) apparently has frequency selective dampening tech used in the Koni reds. Not sure if this means they licensed the tech from Koni or are actually sourcing the shocks from Koni or what. I doubt they are just literally slapping...

LR RWD suspension refresh: MPP Comfort Coilovers vs Koni Red vs OEM

My LR RWD is approaching 100k miles which is when I typically start to think about doing a suspension refresh on my vehicles. My main criticism with the current suspension is it feels uncomposed with too much rebound after large bumps. Not sure to what extent this is an issue with the stock...

My Tesla rolls backwards a little bit at stop signs with fsd!

To be clear on my issue, which sounds very similar to OPs. The car isn't actually rolling. Hold is enabled. It's reversing backwards slightly (less than an inch when manually driving, more dramatic when on FSD) before activating hold. I can tell it's actually reversing and not rolling because it...

My Tesla rolls backwards a little bit at stop signs with fsd!

I'm not an expert on the Tesla drive unit, so I'll defer here if you know otherwise. But my assumption was that there's integral hall effect sensors within that are not serviceable without rebuilding the drive unit and thus would be included as part of the warranty.
  42. T

My Tesla rolls backwards a little bit at stop signs with fsd!

If it's a bad sensor in the drive unit causing this, which is within the realm of possibility, it would be covered under warranty. But yea, I suspect it would be expensive to have them troubleshoot which is why I haven't gone that route.
  43. T

My Tesla rolls backwards a little bit at stop signs with fsd!

My 2018 Model 3 does this too. I’ve noticed it happens during manual driving lately too when using one pedal driving. Anyone ever figure this out? I’m hesitant to engage Tesla service because I have a feeling it will be a wild goose chase and may not be covered under warranty (I have 100k miles).

Some new data from research on Tesla model 3 cells

@AAKEE any data on different depth of discharges? I don't currently have home charging, so my typical pattern is to wait to charge as long as possible to increase time spent at low state of charge. I'll typically charge to 80% and wait until I'm around 10-15% to recharge, so while I'm likely...

Least expensive charging option better than 110

GFCI isn't a big deal if you are careful IMO. Exposed ROMEX on an outdoor deck seems pretty sketch though lol. Does the car really need to be serviced enough that the lack of a service center is an issue? If it's new you might just be hitting some early failures due to crappy Tesla quality...

Alternative to the standard Model Y parcel shelf? Its trash

Last I heard, Texas cars are still coming with the old crappy version. Anyone know if the side rails are the same between the two? If so, it's just a matter of buying the shelf portion.
