Torque, Horsepower, and speed, A technical discussion

I don't disagree with anything you said here (aside from removing the "usually") but I am not sure how it applies to my comment. HP = (Torque x RPM)/5252 so you can easily calculate HP given a torque curve. Yes, you want to shift in such a way that maximizes your use of HP... I just said gears...

Torque, Horsepower, and speed, A technical discussion

I think what I would say is that the P3D, when compared to other cars that can go 0-60mph in 3 seconds, is not particularly quick from 60 - 120mph. So a lot of cars that you'll absolutely smoke from a stoplight will pull on you over 80mph. "Falls on its face" is a bit hyperbolic, but the torque...

Their argument seems to rest on the idea that it was somehow obvious he would lead the company to become the most valuable car company in the world and therefore these milestones were much easier to hit than advertised. And that the board negotiating the deal was not sufficiently "Independent"...

You posted a Wikipedia link that says he’s listed as a cofounder. What’s your point? That some guys incorporated a company and didn’t do anything until Elon joined and financed it? Do you want an asterisk next to my statement that he started the company? Put an asterisk. It changes nothing...

You can split hairs if you want but Musk is listed as a cofounder. He was chairman of the board back in early 2004. They weren’t doing anything at scale before his involvement. He provided most of the early funding. He led the company from a small startup to the most valuable car company in the...

But I have read sources from various sides of the political spectrum discuss it and my take is that he is getting hosed. I...

Yes, Tesla the company he started and has made or been heavily involved in making most of the major decisions for since its founding. The company was close to running out of cash when this deal was made. The market cap has grown 10x since the deal was made. Why does there need to be a big...

Dude bet on himself, his company, and his vision... it paid off... what is the problem? I thought the shareholders (roughly 75% when EXCLUDING Musk's shares) voted for this package. Why is an activist judge deciding to override the majority of voting shareholders? Tesla made all of the...

The 2 Best Days In a Plaid Owner’s Life

Isn't this mostly just about the price on a new Plaid dropping nearly $40k over that period so any used Plaid resale price has to reflect that drop? I get why the RWD model lost the credit, but why did the long range awd lose it while the performance awd kept it? I thought they used the same batteries? It is a strange situation now where the net cost of a performance model is now less than a regular dual motor and almost cheaper than a RWD...

Can you order a Model 3 Performance without Uberturbine wheels?

The 20's are definitely more prone to rim damage, curb rash, and blow outs compared to the 18s or 19s. The internet is a big place you’ll find people with all sorts of opinions. I’ve heard a lot of misinformation about EVs but not much hatred personally. Though I do have a few lefty friends that now hate Elon because he says some “problematic” things or something. I think people mostly hate...

Was that recently? All lane changes that I initiated were prompt and smooth in my opinion. Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

It doesn’t matter what “people are asking for” I’m talking about one specific thing which is an acceleration boost on the P. You’re arguing with a straw man bringing up what everyone else is asking for. I can do all the “differentiating” I want with my current P3D; body kit, rims, brakes, tint...

Y’all act like the current performance model isn’t $50,990. It’s already $4k below the threshold. Tesla literally does this already with the dual motor performance boost. They already have a motor they could toss in the rear of the P. The snarkiness on this forum is the reason I rarely...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

For sure, that is a risk and I don't know if Elon would be willing to take that risk. It is less of a risk if you just equip certain models with the upgraded motor and charge more for that model. There would be no incentive to buy that more expensive model unless you intended to follow through...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

So what? That doesn't mean that Tesla couldn't put a higher end motor is either all of the P models or specific P models and then offer the boost as a software upgrade. Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

I guess it was ludicrous plus that was a software update. I wasn’t sure I never had a model S. Not really important either way the point was that Tesla could in theory sell the car for a given price then charge you a fee to unlock max acceleration. The regular dual motor has acceleration boost...

Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

IIRC ludicrous mode used to be a software update on the model S. There’s no reason why you couldn’t have a $55k P3D with a $7k software unlock to get the 0-60 down to 2.6 or whatever. I’m just saying they can be creative since a $7500 credit is pretty significant for a car at that price point.

I dunno they have it on the plaid and I have heard that people like it. I wasn't aware it had reliability issues but that is a concern if true. I don't really do a lot of "performance driving" I just take off-ramps kind of quick and stomp the pedal at stop lights. Factory coilovers would be...

I mean we don't really know that, even if you might have reason to believe it will be the case. Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation [Car announced 04.23.2024]

Sounds to me like you’re just disappointed it’s not a very specific niche luxury performance sedan and you want them to go after that segment. It’s a fair criticism as a consumer but I agree with others that there may not be any incentive to do so since it already outsells all of those cars...

Don’t forget that the M2 and RS3 both start around $62k which is $10k more than the P3D before incentives and $17.5k more after the federal tax credit. I think the P3D Highland needs to step it up to not be outdone by Hyundai/Kia. The Ioniq 5 N looks like a solid competitor at a similar (slightly higher) price point.
