PowerWall installation mess: Need advice on how to get it resolved

@wwhitney, many thanks for patiently replying to all my questions and the help you provided with the detailed info. Finally, Tesla guys came and fixed my installation. They just relocated all the loads except for the AC from the 200A distribution section on the old panel, to the Tesla Backup...

PowerWall installation mess: Need advice on how to get it resolved

@wwhitney , No luck getting through to Tesla :( . Meanwhile, I went to a friend's place in the neighborhood and checked out his PowerWall and Solar installation. He has a much bigger house than me, which is about 4300 Sq. Ft. I've attached pictures from his installation. His electrical system...

PowerWall installation mess: Need advice on how to get it resolved

@wwhitney Thanks for patiently listening to me and providing me with a possible solution. I wish Tesla can learn something from you. I've reached out Tesla Energy and shared your rewire proposal with them. Waiting to hear back from them. About the torquing the lug nut, thanks for pointing that...

PowerWall installation mess: Need advice on how to get it resolved

I opened up the HVAC sub-panel and took some pictures of the conductors. Unfortunately, I could see the markings on the sleeve of the conductor coming from the wall into the sub-panel. Only one of the wires had a marking that is not barely readable. I've attached the pictures.

PowerWall installation mess: Need advice on how to get it resolved

I am handy and somewhat familiar with electrical wiring and stuff - enough to make sure I don't electrocute myself :-)

PowerWall installation mess: Need advice on how to get it resolved

This is awesome information. Thanks for the detailed explanation. Now, how can I determine what type of feeder conductors were used in case? I guess only licensed electrican can tell that, by opening up the panel and looking at the conductors, right? One other piece of information that I did...

PowerWall installation mess: Need advice on how to get it resolved

Only one of the AC units label is complete. The other was torn, but, fortunately, I could read the Minimum Circuit Ampacity and "Maximum Fuse or Circuit Breaker" values on the label for both ACs. No other HVAC equipment is connected to the HVAC panel outside the house. Do you think the blower...

PowerWall installation mess: Need advice on how to get it resolved

@wwhitney , I updated the 1 wire diagram with your latest comments. The new picture is attached. I checked the AC units again, they do have the MCA and MOCP listed on the white label: Unit 1 : MCA - 25.9A , MOCP - 45A Unit 2: MCA - 19.1A, MOCP - 30A I've tried to summarize the...

PowerWall installation mess: Need advice on how to get it resolved

Updated the one line diagram to reflect your comments. Please take a look at the attached picture. BTW, in my case, the meter and the main panel are adjacent to each other and not on the same panel. I've attached the pictures for my installation. Not sure how to get this information. The label...

PowerWall installation mess: Need advice on how to get it resolved

@wwhitney Wayne, it took me a while to fully understand the last solution that you proposed. I tried translating it into a block diagram. According to my interpretation of your proposal, the orange colored blocks are what need to be installed and the corresponding electrical connections need...

PowerWall installation mess: Need advice on how to get it resolved

I agree. My EV is a Tesla M3, which I believe will communicate with PowerWall and will not drain it completely during a power outage. I don't see it mentioned in the contract in writing that all loads other than the ACs should be backed up. It is a verbal agreement. So, I'm out of luck on that...

PowerWall installation mess: Need advice on how to get it resolved

That is correct. All the loads on the main panel outside the house that I was expecting to be backed up having been relocated to a new panel they installed inside the garage, except for the EVSE. This is good know. Yes. They should have removed the stickers. I will do it. Now the real issue...

PowerWall installation mess: Need advice on how to get it resolved

Thanks a ton for the detailed info on how to fix this, Wayne. I need need time to digest the info you have provided. Meanwhile, please see the attached pics of the panel outside the house after the install. BTW, I live in San Ramon, CA. So, I don't know if they allow early adoption of 2020 NEC...

PowerWall installation mess: Need advice on how to get it resolved

Thanks, Wayne. I think you got what I'm trying to do. Here are the answers to your questions: The make of the 300A panel is: Square D, Catalog Number: SU3040D300FB, Series M01. Please see the attached pictures for additional information required, if any. A) Correct. B) Partly correct...

PowerWall installation mess: Need advice on how to get it resolved

Thanks for the suggestions. There is an arbitration clause in the agreement. I had 60 days to sign a document to say I decline to accept the arbitration clause and I forgot to do it in time. Anyways, I want to avoid litigation at all costs. I don't have the stomach for it :(. I am considering...

PowerWall installation mess: Need advice on how to get it resolved

The screen shot I included is a three line diagram. It does not show which loads are getting backed up and which loads are getting relocated to the back up load center. Do they have any other document where they might have detailed this? I know, I screwed up in the sense, that I rushed it and...

PowerWall installation mess: Need advice on how to get it resolved

Thanks. I understand there is no escalation pathway available. I don't want to go the attorney route - it is too much of mental stress for me and I can't handle that. From their load calculations, it appears that since they included the Owen in the load to be backed up, the power budget is...

PowerWall installation mess: Need advice on how to get it resolved

Hi All, Tesla installed 2xPW2 and 1 Gateway, no solar at home on 04/30/2021. The installation is screwed up in the sense, it is not backing up any of the loads that I consider essential. Background of my installation: 1) All the loads in the house are split between two panels: - a main...

Tesla inconsistency and timelines for PTO...

Mind sharing what went wrong with your install? I am currently in that situation. On 04/30, Tesla installed 2 PW2 + 1 GW at home, but, most of the loads in the home not wired up to the backup load center. I'm having a tough time getting Tesla to come and fix it. On 05/01, they sent me an email...

Question on layout of electrical boxes

I remember reading on their web page while signing the contract, that you have to pay extra if you want in person site survey by a Tesla technician. The alternative was to take pictures of the garage, the power panels, the exterior of the house, etc, and upload it on your project page. I wish I...

Should I care if no inspection/PTO for months?

I would highly recommend that you do a test of the system yourself. Shame on me, I did not do this before the installer left :( Follow this procedure: 1) just turn on all the lights and any other important loads that you expect to be backed up by the PW. 1a) Check the Tesla app and note down...

Tesla inconsistency and timelines for PTO...

Tesla totally screwed up my PowerWall installation, in that, they did not backup the most essential loads in the house. But, the PowerWall is operational. It is charging from the Solar and it is powering up whatever loads it was wired to backup (which is like 5% of the total loads in the house)...

Should I care if no inspection/PTO for months?

Based on my experience, all the loads that need to be backed up have to be on what they call as the "backup load center" or could be directly on the gateway. The gateway has a limited number of circuit breakers though. So, not knowing the exact details of your install, I am guessing, if they...
