Paint flaws on brand new March 2024 Model Y, Deep Blue Metallic color

Thats how both of my Model 3s have been. One in 2018 and one in 2022.

Weird ChargePoint Electrical Inspection in NJ

Same opinion. I have a 60 amp Tesla Wall Connector in a town home with 100 amp service. I do have a Sense energy monitor and even when purposely trying to overload the house (electric garage heater, dryer, car charging, hvac on, etc), have only gotten close to 100 amps in my home. Sure I would...

    Utah Tesla Owners

Bummed now. I have always hung the second plate in my garage for all my cars. Now I'll have to wait until I replace the car. Still better overall since I wont need to worry about the second offense anymore.

Electrify America Fast Chargers - Huh?

I used my CCS adapter for a roadtrip to Glacier National Park and it was well worth the cost to be able to get there and return. It also happened to be that EA was cheaper than superchargers. Worth it just for that trip. It sits in the trunk a lot more now that EA has gone up so much in price.

Used it last night. Wonderful stop. Getting out of that hotel on the hill is a trick. Can't see anything until you pull out.

Does your state charge you a penalty for owning a Tesla?

Utah charges a fee on registration. It is ramping up each year, in 2024 it is $138.50 in addition to the normal registration fees. They have also proposed making it more(it's already more than a car getting 22mpg driving 40k miles per year) AND they are adding another tax on EV charging. It's...

Tried this yesterday. Not online, no power. There is a transformer on the pad though.

Anyone else having issue with remote climate controls lately?

Same here. Car has a great cell signal and full wifi. It just takes so long to wake it up and the app to no respond the last few months. Hopefully they can add more servers to the farm and get this back to working like it used to.

    Wonky redundant supercharger stops

Trying to teach my 70 year old father how to drive his new Model 3 on a road trip is going to be a real chore with how the Trip Planner has been lately. I hope they fix these weird bugs very soon.
  12. Park2670

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

The sad part is, they dont know that. And Tesla doesnt make it obvious that this is how it actually works. We all know because we are Tesla nerds.
  13. Park2670

    Wonky redundant supercharger stops

I regularly select the option for "remove charging stops" and make it to my destination with less than 5% without issue. The car seems to want more than 10% on destination randomly.

Supercharger - Nephi, UT - South Main Street

Good point. Tesla advertises 250kW max, but the car can and occasionally does more. I have seen 259kW max on my car.
  15. Park2670

Supercharger - Nephi, UT - South Main Street

Correct, it's 350kW per four stalls, but each power unit can steal up to an additional 575kW from another non used power unit. Also, my 2022 Performance Model 3 can charge at 250kW. All Long Range Model 3 and Model Y max out at 250kW.

Remote Locks Fails to Hold When Partner Leaves Phone in Car

This happened to me three years ago. I was getting married and hid my car to prevent my siblings from making my car dirty. My wife left her phone in the car, and it unlocked when they found my car and filled it with gag gifts.
  17. Park2670

    Supercharger - Beaver, UT

Without the 150kW signs last time I was there. I stopped two different drivers from using them by saying the 250kW ones were faster.

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

I leave my HVAC in auto 99.9% of the time. I live in Utah, its dry but goes above 100F and below 0F each year. The car always does whats right when I need it.

Window is not making proper contact with the seal

My car is in the service center for its fifth visit for both front windows not sealing. Most of the time, the techs cant hear it. This last time, the tech heard it and said it was normal. Really not sure what they are doing with my car now. They have had it for four days.

Range Loss Over Time, What Can Be Expected, Efficiency, How to Maintain Battery Health

I have not seen my car actively heat or the cool the battery once it goes to sleep (2022 and 2018 Model 3). Tracking via power usage at the Wall Connector. My 2014 Chevy Volt DID do this though. I would go into the 100 F/38 C garage and the AC compressor would be spinning and it would be...

    Model 3 Highland Performance/Plaid Speculation

Also here in Utah, everybody thinks AWD is mandatory so when Tesla was not selling the Long Range AWD, everybody just got the Performance (side note: also running on summer tires and probably complaining that its terrible in the snow) reducing the exclusivity of the Performance even more.

I only read the KSL comments when I need a good laugh. Otherwise, they are so frustrating and disappointing.

    Battery Conditioning in HOT Climate

If I am thinking about this correctly, using the energy to cool the cabin might actually heat up the batteries.

I will need to stop by too, just so I can say to myself and other nerds that I have been there. Otherwise I have been and charged at all of the Utah Superchargers.

New Utah law and FUSC owners

The tax that Utah added to the registration goes up to $240 additional by the year 2032. So not only are they taxing us on the car, the registration, and driving it, we are now getting taxed to charge it at public stations. This year, as they slowly ramp up the costs, my registration had a $135...

Awesome how they are filling out the network. From my house to LV, Beaver is as far as I can make it. But I am coming from SLC. Easy reminder that everybody is coming from a different direction and has different charging needs.

    Battery Conditioning in HOT Climate

My 2014 Chevy Volt would actively cool/heat the battery when plugged in. Watching Scan My Tesla, the Model 3 LR does not heat or cool the battery when its off, regardless if it is plugged in or not. Ive even parked it with the battery at 114 degrees F, and it will still go to sleep and not...

Elon Musk Biography By Walter Isaacson

Didnt want to quote your entire post, so I just took a tiny bit. What a well thought out, well typed, and well said statement. Thank you for the post, I agree and will continue to look at the future and what Elon will change in our lives.

    Another Winter Tires thread

Curious why you think this is? Manufacturer specific tires can be and usually are significantly different than the off the shelf spec. Based on that vehicles weight, handling characteristics, efficiency, etc.

    Another Winter Tires thread

I have been running X-Snow tires from Michelin. The main reason is they have a treadwear warranty. I'll never get the 40k miles out of them, so I know I'll get a discount each time I need to replace them. Plus, they are great in the snow. A bit slow to respond in the dry, just as others have...

When traveling, do you bother with trying to find hotels with EV charging? Can you depend on them?

Rented a Polestar at LAX, and used the Marriott app to find a hotel with onsite charging. Stayed there for a week, charging every other day, unplugging before I went to bed so others could use it. Worked perfectly. Never had to use DC charging, and never had to pay to drive around.

Don't want heater on, want vent

Thank you, that is what I was missing in this back and forth. Funny to think this thread started back in 2018 and it's still not a feature in the car.

    Model 3 Charging Issues

Agreed. My work charging voltage sags all the way to 190v sometimes, and it charges at 5kW all day long.
  42. Park2670

Tesla 3 sounds like plane taking off. Normal or not?

Seems normal to me. One is the fan that is cooling the condenser, and the other is the AC compressor. If it's hot, it has to spin up a lot. Wait until you supercharge at 110 degrees F and hear the both running full blast. Its intense.

    I want “iconic sounds”

I know that everybody has different opinions and thoughts.... But the first thing I did when I test drove the i4 was turn off the insane noises. I absolutely love the silence of my car and do not want it any other way.

    Cabin Overheat Protection Doesn’t Work

Ah, I see where the confusion is, my mistake. I wasn't saying COP only works with the app open, I just noticed it did work when I had the app open. Ive never gotten a notification of it working.
  45. Park2670

    Cabin Overheat Protection Doesn’t Work

Nope, it was as I said. No A/C for COP, it was 130 degrees inside. ~72 degrees outside. Car had been parked outside in the sun for two hours. The cooling took four or five minutes to bring the temps down.
  46. Park2670

    Cabin Overheat Protection Doesn’t Work

2022 Model 3, COP set to No A/C. I woke up my car yesterday in the heat. Car registered as 130 degrees F, and then slowly started dropping all the way to 100 degrees F. All without me turning on the climate. So I watched it work.

    Non-Tesla at a supercharger?!

Appears they are using a Tesla to J1772 which will not work with the supercharger. Not sure what their plan was, but they were not going to charge at the supercharger.
  48. Park2670

    Work From Home Charging

You are correct, it will pull when it's not charging. If you are sitting in the car, or preconditioning the car, it will pull from the outlet. But it wont pull 32 amps forever once the battery is done charging.
  49. Park2670

    Work From Home Charging

240v charging is actually more efficient by a tiny amount. Because it doesnt need to run all of the ancillary items for as long. I bet it would be the difference of a few dollars per month. Not a huge deal in my opinion.

Efficiency: 2018 LR RWD vs 2022 LR AWD

Its the motors, inverters, battery, wiring, and internal computers. All of those have become more efficient over the years. Tesla released a video showing that the internal screen has not only gotten brighter with more color accuracy, but it uses less energy and is cheaper for them to produce...
