Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

You’re right, I have specific driving conditions that most won’t encounter. It wouldn’t make sense for Tesla to design their cars based on a few cars here and there. It does the job and is quite good over all in winter driving. But I just don’t believe anyone is being honest if they say it’s as...

Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

No, not what is happening. Again, this is trying to get up a steep windy driveway in slush or wet snow, full throttle. Basically a hill challenge. Not about coasting or regenerative braking. Off canter banked turns. Starting from stopped. Etc.

Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

Again, I’ll reiterate. My two cars right now are an outback circa 2018 with hakapeliitta 9 studded tires, and a model y with the same tires. I live in the mountains of BC, on a logging road steep and windy driveway which has not been snow or ice free since December. There continues to be a not...

Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

All that is interesting and good, but the simple fact remains that it is not as sure footed as a Subaru and more prone to temporary traction loss which opens up the possibility of catastrophic accidents on ice or highways. This is a factor to me as I consider my children’s safety a priority.

Loud Regen Braking Noise (Cold Battery)

I have a really high pitched sound in similar conditions but also there but more quiet in warmer conditions. It is more noticeable when in off road mode because front motor activated more. I think older people might not hear it as it’s pretty high frequency but not sure. Mine is very faint...

Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

I’ve been playing around a lot with off road mode. It’s drives entirely different. It feels like it’s not near as rwd biased. Does anyone have the app that bjorn uses on YouTube to see if off road puts the car into AWD? The only thing I’m uneasy about is that it also turns traction control off...

Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

I wish someone would tap into the torque details like those bjorn videos with off road on and off. I wonder what it does to the rwd bias. I also wonder about safety at highway speeds with traction control disabled, which happens when you go into off road mode.

Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

We’re beating a dead horse here. We should have all driving modes available to suit our preferences. To me, fun and efficiency would be easy to sacrifice to ensure my car doesn’t slide out of control maiming or killing my children. For others, it’s fun to slide around the road. We should just be...

Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

To be clear I wasn’t talking about fishtailing because of regenerative braking around a corner. Just fishtailing often and in any situations, throttle, no throttle, cruising, etc etc. I agree we all should be pestering them for this. I wish I had Twitter I would tweet Elon about it.

Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

It doesn’t work as well as manual Subaru, cmon. The Subaru is not a rwd vehicle. The Tesla is rwd until throttle applied or slipping already. The Subaru as you pointed out especially manual is basically 50/50 at all times. As others have pointed out, for everyday driving in snow on busy...

Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

Another question to all, do you think the off road assist function changes the torque differential to equalize it more? I notice the sensitivity to pedal changes and the traction control gets turned off but I do wonder if it also initiates power to front more than standard settings...

Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

I think my main point is being confused a bit. We have two cars right now and are driving both. The Subaru and model y have same tires but I guess different widths. The Subaru is having no slipping and no problem getting to our house. The model y is all over the driveway and requiring me to...

Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

Yea this is what I'm getting at. It does kick in and get you straight, and it does have more play and a bit of looseness, as you put it. Which is all fine and dandy in low consequence situations, but that little bit of play and looseness on a patch of ice going 90km/h around a blind turn in the...

Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

I do have a winter driving profile set up as mentioned with regen low, creep mode, and chill driving mode. I haven’t tried with voice command but it’s pretty easy to switch on screen.

Winter handling Subaru vs dual-motor model Y

TLDR: Model Y handling in winter conditions not nearly as good as Subaru So bit of background.. I come from driving a subaru in the canadian interior mountains for the past 10 years. Prior to that was a FWD Honda. I ski and drive over mountain passes frequently and consider myself experienced...

So for all of you putting peppermint oil or steel wool around wires and under the trunk etc where exactly do we find these wires? Is there a YouTube video out there where we can learn how to protect these wires from rodents?

Update. Car was in for less than a week and had both sensors replaced. Heat working. Great service and turn around time.

    MY Door Trim Discoloration

So being December now with lots of model y in winter climates what’s your verdict? Having success with touch less car washes? I can’t wash mine outside in the winter so still looking for safe options!

Do you increase your tire pressure back to 42 psi during cold temp weathe

Yes. The tire shop that installed my winters did it in 4 degree weather at 42. There’s some fluctuation based on ambient temps but that’s about right most times I check the pressure. Of course if we get a -10 day it’ll be lower for a while until I’ve been driving. And if it’s +10 it might be a...

    Model Y heat failure

Posted in another thread as well but wanted to provide update. Model Y are having numerous reports of heat failure. See videos on YouTube and other thread. Service centre in Calgary AB has numerous cars in for service awaiting parts which are on back order. Apparently it’s an issue with a...

    Sentry mode fail

I was really hoping to see who left this letter for me today but unfortunately sentry didn’t trigger somehow! The rest of the day was recorded normally with other people walking by. For the record, it’s not residential parking only, I can’t park downtown because it’s 2hr limit only and my work...

Regen Braking Temporarily Reduced - Every time

Yea. I get that, I used to do a lot of preconditioning and all that too. But I realized that it costs more energy to our planet to do that than to not so I just don’t bother anymore. My efficiency numbers might not look quite as good now in my trip calculators but I’m saving a little bit of...

Regen Braking Temporarily Reduced - Every time

To prove what, sorry? That using energy prior to departing by turning on the hvac can’t possibly be less than the energy gained by more regeneration? Or are you asking about something else? That’s just common sense. The car can recover some energy during regeneration but it doesn’t produce more...

Regen Braking Temporarily Reduced - Every time

This is all so silly. Preconditioning and warming the battery up prior to leaving for your half hour drive using electricity through the charger doesn’t make sense. You either put energy in before leaving or put it in when you get back. You can’t come out net positive by warming the battery up...

    Acceleration Boost Purchased

I bought it and returned it with a friend in the car before and after. It wasn’t just that it was faster there was also a lot more instant torque in our opinion. We’re not car guys really but just curious what it would feel like. Really noticeable. But returned it cuz of the wife’s objections

    Post your Garage charging setup!

I put a pulley in the rafters. When I’m not using the cord it wraps around those hooks on the plywood, up and out of the way. The counterweight off to the left edge of the photo is a bird feeder and a little planter full of rocks. You can see the mobile connector up in the rafters of the...

    Surprise cheque in the mail!

I bought my model Y just before the price reduction (within a week). I didn’t really mind because I knew prices go up and down with Tesla. Sentry mode stopped working

So new owner only about three weeks. Formatted a high endurance microsd card and sentry and dashcam were both working. Need tips for trip from Vancouver to Big White and Osoyoos

Correct. By the way, anyone know how to have both free and free required stations to show up on the PlugShare app? I find it strange that the toggle for “fee required” gets rid of the free ones, and vice versa!

    Model Y for Canada!

They wouldn’t let me. They told me it’s stored in a separate lot that has no public access until your delivery date then moved to delivery centre. So they wouldn’t let me see before delivery time. My sales person did do me a favour and snap photos of the car and inspect it for me beforehand.

Need tips for trip from Vancouver to Big White and Osoyoos

Almost all of these stations are not free where OP is talking about charging. You’ll need a Flo/ChargePoint/B.C. Hydro account and pay higher rates than the super chargers.

    Model Y for Canada!

Yep. It’s awesome. Where I live the speed limits are between 50-80, occasionally 90 km/hr so I’ve actually been getting better than advertised range. So sweet!

    Model Y for Canada!

It’s outdoor but I’m in the mountains where it’s not that hot really. And I don’t have sentry mode on either. So that makes sense. Was just wondering how these things work I’m new to Tesla. Don’t want to be too surprised in different situations.

    Model Y for Canada!

I’ve had mine parked at a friends condo for over 30 hours now and have only lost 5km. Any reason yours is slightly more while sitting there? Cabin overheat protection? Apps on your phone or watch? Not that it matters I’m just curious about the difference.

    Price drop

I honestly don't care. There is a limit for everyone as to when they wouldn't care either. For some it would be 3 months, for other a year, for some one week. I bought the car knowing what I was paying, and accepted that price for the car I knew I was buying. If someone else is going to get it...

    Model Y for Canada!

Depends on where you live, I’d guess. I’m in rural BC and there are no super chargers yet (some are officially planned nearby). So I had to buy the CHADEMO adapter for any road trips. These chargers are everywhere around here, every little town has one it seems like.
  48. M

    Freaking out

Yea bought the adapter from Tesla. Where I live there are no super chargers but plenty of CHADEMO everywhere. For any road trip it is essential for me, and I knew that going into it.

    Freaking out

Update *** Okay freaking out again. My wife drove the car for the first time last night when she got home from work and now on my first day of ownership back home, has demanded she drive it to work because her commute is longer than mine, hence it’s better for the environment if she takes it...
