    2023 Shipping Movements

hopeful for Model 3 match soon for my replacement lease vehicle, can't believe it's been 3 years+ since I took delivery of the current car - fingers crossed any ships due into Southampton soon have a match for me. was supposed to be in the new one a month ago so getting twitchy trigger finger...

New Navigation Maps for Europe Rolling Out 2021.8

have now realised why our 4G internet was so terrible this week - the car has updated itself to 2021 maps version without even a hint of a download happening. Now if only they could deliver a software interface that doesn't prioritise a stupid car graphic over navigation real estate ....

    Tow hitch availability?

really pleased I waited ages for my vehicle to arrive due to ordering white interior with tow. agree with @Rustybkts it's giving the tip a real workout and in 3 weeks time I have over a cubic metre of timber cladding boards to collect. because you have to drive very sensibly also and the extra...

    6 months into ownership ....

yes and yes - have taken cover off / battery out and currently drying. Should be fine with a new battery. will leave it a few days to be sure all the moisture is gone from the PCB. 40 degrees on a synthetics wash would be my recommendation. non-bio of course.

    6 months into ownership ....

camera being replaced now and boot seals being looked at. 2 things I've learnt this morning - 1) when you can't find your keyfob, always look in the washing machine, and 2) there is some delicious irony in a mobile Tesla service tech turning up in a diesel Merc van.

    6 months into ownership ....

just some thoughts folks - am not looking to be viewed as right or wrong - it's just some feedback on the handling characteristics of the car now I've got to know it better. YMMV :) And yes I'm aware I'm comparing 2 completely different cars - benefit of having owned 2 completely different...

    6 months into ownership ....

It means that the car is too quick for its suspension on B roads. It’s not set up to be able to monster these kinds of roads and it shows a real lack of composure beyond a certain point, it’s a very sudden change and tells me the suspension folks at Tesla had a choice to make given how the car...

    Trailers suitable for model 3

Finally got the trailer sorted, went with trusty CLH Trailers based in South Wales - long lead time but worth the wait. went for 7’6 x 4’6 which has worked out perfectly as the width is exactly the same as the car, makes adjusting road position really easy as you can go off the rear arches in...

    6 months into ownership ....

Had the Model 3 LR for 6 months now with the odometer showing 5500 miles. Completely bizarre situation that miles are so low, usually I would have done 15-20k in that time - but still the car has done a few longer runs 400 miles ish and lots of local stuff. Good stuff Performance Comfort...

Has anyone seen a video of roadtrip M3 vs ICU?

Think my days of heroic long stints driving silly distances are over. But I like the comparison. Roughly would say for a Model 3 LR for every 3-4 hours driving you need to stop for 45-60 minutes charging, if conditions at SuC are with you and you get lucky on charging location vs total...

Tesla Model 3 UK Manual Towbar Accessory Limit of 55Kgs

Worth noting that the Model 3 wiring mechanism for trailers does not have braking control, neither does the trailer mode software, for this reason I stuck with unbraked 750kg max trailer, currently on order - will update other thread when it turns up. Maybe the Model X has more oomph and...

Bluetooth issues - no longer sees phone

Having just updated to 48.35.5 this week (model 3), I’ve also had a new work phone (change from iPhone 8 to 11) - it took 3 attempts to get it to recognise the new phone and then got itself into a right tizzy with the new phone and old phone having the same name. Eventually I deleted all phones...

    Battery Drain Overnight.

Mine loses 1% in around 5 days parked up with no API stuff going on and no checking on the app - in 10-20 degrees C Since the weather got a lot colder / continually at less than 10 degrees, it loses about 2% in a week. However I’m not convinced it’s losing even as much as that, I think it’s...

    Using trickle charging

You will be charging at 10 amps, the UMC limits to this on a 3-pin 13A plug. On the Long Range Model 3, a charge at 16 amps from 10% to 90% would take around 17 hours at 3.7kW - with your current setup it would be around 26 hours at 2.3kW For the SR+ it obviously makes a bigger difference in...

    Using trickle charging

Have a look at Commando (CEE type) sockets and adaptors for your UMC / other charger options. At the very least this would give you 16A, potentially 32 depending on your home consumer unit / fusing capability / main fuse rating.

Tesla Range - Surely there’s something wrong?!?

We’re still experiencing the growing pains of a switch to an energy source that you can’t “see” When you go to a fuel pump, a physical quantity of a liquid splurges into a container, and you feel both the quantity and pain of that, with your eyes and in your wallet. At the point of consumption...

Model 3 LR 2020 - 3000 miles, 4 months, 307wh/m avg I have only done 2 long journeys in the car, everything else is <30 miles one way Before the recent very wet and cold spell the lifetime avg at around 2k miles was 280.

    2021 updates to my 2019 model 3

If there is no extra insulation in the body of the car, thicker glass may not make any difference to overall noise levels. Noise may be perceived as lower from passing traffic etc, as your ears will localise that to moving objects “passing the windows” tyres account for the largest noise...

    Timer charging restricted to 16A?

You could try a scheduled charge using the supplied UMC running in Granny charge mode @ 13A for an hour or so, to make the car “learn” it now has 10A max from a 13A supply. Then go back to your normal charging config and see if the car “re-learns” its new theoretical max of 32. When I’ve...

    Wipers - a suggestion

It’s just complete nonsense that Tesla feel they need to prove a point by having to use cameras to detect rain. All I would say is come and drive on UK roads in the rain with the wipers set to Auto. You will either be dead due to no wiping/visibility or dead due to the wipers burrowing their...

48.26 UI Changes - thumbs up or down?

48.26 UI Changes - thumbs up or down?

New speed display (your actual speed) is the only improvement. It is easier to glance at as closer to peripheral view The lower main display bar is neither better nor worse Shrink the white space by 50% and make the maps/rest bigger. Why are all the vehicle menu selections as far away from...

    Mud flaps

I would say they do help generally with side/rear dirt, they do need cleaning out regularly as muck gets caught between the plastic part and the bodywork. You still get some small stone chips on the sills but not surprising when the roads are falling apart everywhere

Which charging cards to sign up for?

Before the car arrived (my first EV), I thought from comments on here I would need about 20 different cards, initially I signed up to Geniepoint and thought I would wait and see how the situation panned out. [how not to] Clearing snow from your car, with a metal shovel

Looks like he forgot to dress the tyres with a nail gun. To be fair, it might just have been unlucky and was the wrong kind of metal. Aluminium would have been fine, right ?
