    Average Wh/mi since owning?

349 Wh/mile from 44,161 miles, mostly with the heated seats on and heating turned up.... that's what you need in Northern Ireland lol.

    VED Changes

UK electric car owners will have to pay road tax from 1st April 2025... £165 per year for all cars from their 1st birthday (£10 for the first year).... also for those with a list price of over £40k when new and registered from 1st April 2025 there will be the £355 expensive car supplement tax to...

    Trade in value

2020 M3 LR cars advertised on autotrader range from £21k to £30k, although I doubt they'll achieve the higher end of the prices. I think I may keep the car another few years, surely the rate of depreciation from now moving forward should dramatically reduce.

    Trade in value

I filled in the Tesla trade in form this morning to see what I would be offered for my March 2020 M3 LR in Multi Coat Red with 43k miles which I purchased new for £53k. £18,500.00 is the offer.... that's depreciation of £34,500 in 3 years and 9 months, that's a whopping £766 per month, £9,200...

    Home charging speed

How many miles per hour does the app say that it is charging at? If it says 26 miles per hour at 32 amps, then that's about right for a 7kw charger.

    M3 Extended Warranty

Didn't know it was transferable, that does make it more appealing, if it actually covers anything.

    M3 Extended Warranty

Hi Mr Badger, I looked into an extended warranty for a previous car (non EV) and it didn't cover much as there are a lot of items that are considered (by car dealers) to be reasonable wear and tear at 4 years of age or older. Hopefully someone on the forum will have experience of this warranty...

    Electrical genius required?

I don't think he did, but can't be sure... he was at the gates I was at the car / charger and we were communicating by shouting. He only mentioned the voltage being fine and voltage drop not being the issue for the gates now operating correctly.

Hi.... sorry I am not sure of the answer, but here is the link to the exact one I purchased: https://cpc.farnell.com/powerwalker/10121088/ups-vi-1500-stl-lcd-uk-900w/dp/CS32648?CMP=TREML007-005

    M3 Extended Warranty

My M3LR will be 4 in March 2024 and therefore the standard Tesla warranty will expire. I have got a quote of £2,428.00 for extending the warranty by another 4 years / 50,000 miles, as per the image below. A year ago (7th April 2022) my cars upper control arms were replaced due to the sealant in...

    Electrical genius required?

Sorry for the late reply... I was away on holiday. Update is I bought a 1.5Kva UPS (quite inexpensive as it turns out), and connected it directly to the MCB for the gates and then connected the gate supply to the UPS output... it has strangely improved things slightly, I can now charge the car...

Is there any way of getting the total kWh used and lifetime average watts per mile to show on the trip card?

Tesla M3LR charging even though schedule turned off

I can't comment on the Zappi charger element of the setup, but if your charge schedule is turned off in the car then it will charge immediately when it gets power.
  22. G

    Electrical genius required?

I'll have to check that out, but as the gates are actually getting power will a UPS come on? Maybe some sort of system that goes between the breaker and the gate control panel so that the control panel requests power to move the gates and it gets it from a constantly charged battery?
  23. G

    Electrical genius required?

Ah.. I did see that graph, but thought it not overly useful as a screenshot as you wouldn't be able to run along and see the rising and falling voltage rate. You'll definitely need your coat.. it's baltic today!
  24. G

    Electrical genius required?

Once the weather picks up a bit I'll get out there with a multimeter and see what readings I get at the gate control panel / motors etc. I also intend to run an extension lead to the gates and use that as the power source to test if all works ok or not, in the various scenarios.... maybe being...

    Electrical genius required?

Pringles are always good to eat! Someone had asked for a graph showing the charging rates etc, I can't find a graph on Teslafi, but have found a chart, I attach an extract from it. Voltage ranges from 226 to 230.
  26. G

    Electrical genius required?

Sounds like an excellent idea.... I wouldn't have a drum of 2.5mm cable, but I do have a long extension lead and could make up a short cable length for it... sounds like a plan for a warm day.
  27. G

    Electrical genius required?

The issue happens even when coming home, using the controller on the outside of the gates far from the charging car.
  28. G

    Electrical genius required?

I don't know any Zoe's lol... how would I test for or work out if RF interference is the cause?
  29. G

    Electrical genius required?

I know nothing about RF interference, but presumably the interference would need to be at the gate control panel / antenna which is around 40 metres from where the car is parked?
  30. G

    Electrical genius required?

I have come to the conclusion that the issue is caused by the Tesla, at least I cannot see any other sensible explanation. I plugged the BMW in, charged it at 32 amps, which the Hypervolt app confirmed at 31 amps.... the gates worked fine. I swapped the charging lead over to the Tesla and the...

    Electrical genius required?

Hi Regulo, I don't know how the cable was run as it was installed before we purchased the house. We did replace the gate system when we moved in around 7 years ago, but just connected to the existing cable.
  33. G

    Electrical genius required?

My friends Tesla does exactly the same as mine does when plugged in...... at 32 amps the gates don't work, at 16 amps they do work. Teslafi tells me that when charging is set to 32 amps that the voltage max is 232, voltage average is 229 and max amps is 32 and average 31.2, if that means...
  34. G

    Electrical genius required?

Thanks for your reply.... it hasn't just started, it has been like this for years. I just assumed that the car was drawing too much load off the garage supply which meant the gates which are off the same fuse board didn't have enough power to run. It was only last week when we got another...
  35. G

    Electrical genius required?

Thanks for the post... I don't have an amp meter but will see if I can get one to test the gates.
  36. G

    Electrical genius required?

No.... I have to try that to see if there is significant voltage drop.
  37. G

    Electrical genius required?

    It's a single phase supply.
  38. G

    Electrical genius required?

That's just the rating on the motor, they are on a 10 amp breaker.
  39. G

    Electrical genius required?

The issue happens when only the Tesla is plugged in. The house supply is 100 amps so even allowing for Tv's, lights etc in the house (which shouldn't be on overnight while using cheap rate charging) there shouldn't be a load issue. Good idea re checking the voltage at the gates, will try that...
  40. G

    Electrical genius required?

The gates are hard wired but operated via remotes. However the gates are around 40m from the cars Yeah that's what I thought for the past few years, but the new charger which is on a supply straight from the house main incoming supply still causes the issue. As the gates only operate at 5 amps...

    Electrical genius required?

The gates are hard wired but operated via remotes. However the gates are around 40m from the cars and chargers.
  42. G

    Electrical genius required?

The gates operate via remote control. I maybe should have mentioned the gates are around 40 metres away from the house and from where the chargers and cars are. The remotes do operate the gates ok and the gates try to open, maybe moving an inch or 2 before stopping.
  43. G

    Electrical genius required?

Not if I drop to 16 Amps or less.
  44. G

    Electrical genius required?

No... sorry... maybe should have said that they both vary a little between 31 and 32 amps.
  45. G

    Electrical genius required?

If I lower the Tesla charging amps to 16 then the gates work. I don't have any homelink style functions in the car.
  46. G

    Electrical genius required?

It's has always been the case.... the first charger we got was the podpoint which is connected off the garage supply which is the same supply the gates are off, so I had assumed it was caused by too much load on that supply.... but when we got the 2nd EV and 2nd charger last week I soon worked...
  47. G

    Electrical genius required?

Both cars are set to charge at 32 amps and the apps for both cars say they are charging at either 31 or 32 amps. I also have teslafi which shows the Tesla is charging at 32 amps.
  48. G

    Electrical genius required?

Gates are wired. Both cars are parked side by side. One charger has CT monitoring and the voltage doesn't drop so unlikely to be a supply issue.
  49. G

    Electrical genius required?

The trip doesn't go off here either. Just weird that one car works fine and one doesn't, again the same voltage and amps.
  50. G

    Electrical genius required?

Yeah.... sounds like a plan lol
