Poll: I Believe Elon's statement that the Cybertruck will be able to cross rivers and even seas

Someone is gonna buy an early-production CT and make a YouTube video testing this out.

    SLS and Orion Development

Engineering reviews and simulations count for a lot. Orion escape system was certified but extensive simulation & review. Dragon escape system was certified by launching & detonating a Falcon 9. Bureaucrats are satisfied by sufficient paperwork. Elon presumably jumped at the chance to blow up...

Starting to feel like Cybertruck is going the way of the Roadster: Vaporware

Ok. They weren’t, now they are. Tesla isn’t the leader in electric pickups because, as of now, they don’t make one.

    SLS and Orion Development

Understood, the competition is existential for SLS. A RUD for Starship on first go - vs SLS pulling off a whole Moon-and-back - may not terminate the project but will impact willingness to buy rides early.

Starting to feel like Cybertruck is going the way of the Roadster: Vaporware

Was with you up to this point. As you said earlier: "you really need to understand that trucks are not cars." Tesla isn't the leader in the electric truck market. Ford is. I've seen Rivians in the wild. A couple prototypes isn't leading.

    SLS and Orion Development

Both projects are run by humans who are fully aware their existential competitor is neck-and-neck for who launches first. Both are first-time test flights. For one to fail (catastrophic) where the other succeeds will influence future big money. Yes it's not a formally recognized race. It's the...

    Cyber truck n

It's not "all over the web". There are numerous outlets that post voluminous "Tesla!" clickbait, which is mostly falsehoods. Ignore them. If it's not posted on Tesla.com, TeslaMotorsClub.com, or a few other reputable sites, it's bunk.

What was Tesla's estimated price of Cybertruck March 2020?

Just keep the FSD at $7k reserved price. Any higher and it will get vetoed here. ("You paid WHAT for stupid WHAT?!?")
  9. dazedNconfuzed

Have I locked in a price

Take the "meh, most pickup owners are just suburban commuters" quip at face value: here in southern USA, 1/3rd of all vehicles on road are pickups (and honorable mention to the substantial fraction of Teslas). That's a LOT of commuters who want a cost-efficient runabout with occasional...

What was Tesla's estimated price of Cybertruck March 2020?

Tri-motor version was announced at $69,900, FSD at $7,000.

    Model Y Owners - Preordering a Cybertruck

Probably my last vehicle, assuming it really does run upwards of a million miles with limited maintenance.

Starting to feel like Cybertruck is going the way of the Roadster: Vaporware

Free supercharging was a loss leader for early adopters. Given that most EV owners charge at home most of the time, expensive supercharging is a reasonable tradeoff.

Starting to feel like Cybertruck is going the way of the Roadster: Vaporware

Groan. Yes, pedant, there may a tiny test/experimental H2 infrastructure in a tax-squandering state. I even balked at writing "zero" for that reason. Being a vanishingly small fraction amid all energy taps (mostly gas nozzles and electrical outlets) across some 3.797 million mi², I went with...

Starting to feel like Cybertruck is going the way of the Roadster: Vaporware

Hydrogen is a non-starter as it has zero infrastructure. Yes it could theoretically be implemented (gas & electric were at 0% at some point not all that long ago), but competing power sources are all but pervasive: gas is delivered to last-mile distance, electric literally goes to every...

Starting to feel like Cybertruck is going the way of the Roadster: Vaporware

Well, there was that pesky little issue involving a worldwide pandemic, and supply chain chip shortage. Roadster was a luxury model, expendable in the large scheme. Cybertruck is critical, considering majority of vehicles on the road are SUVs and pickups (with most of those amounting to...

Starting to feel like Cybertruck is going the way of the Roadster: Vaporware

FWIW, southeastern USA traffic is 2/3rds SUVs and pickups. Remaining 1/3 is sedans, of which Tesla is making a strong showing. Considering how many S/3/X/Ys are on the road here, CT should have remarkably fast adoption - and with the outrageous styling, even a few will make a serious impact on...

    No Door Handles??

I'm all for accepting things that smart people spent a lot of resources (time/brains/money) working out. Doesn't always succeed (see Apple's voice-only iPod shuffle), but usually it's the right thing in the long run - truly new just seems weird on first contact because it's first contact. Bring...

    “ it was 20 years ago today…”

Likewise, I try to watch every launch. Kids are likely bored by it at this point, growing up aware of liftoffs every couple weeks becoming no big thing. I view it as "geek sports" and I'm rooting for "my team", the game usually playing out in their favor but sometimes it's a nail biter or even a...

    Cybertruck

As Elon noted, Tesla could build Cybertrucks for a million dollars each, and sell them at a staggering loss. Many expect that's basically what Rivian is doing: building prototypes the expensive way just to get something out the door to say "see? we're producing!". Playing "yes, but" games is...

    Starlink and Ukraine War discussion

Am wondering if this will lead to disallowing Starlink in some countries, as unapproved capabilities can be enabled at Elon's whim, or because Elon benefitted an opponent (i.e.: will Starlink be banned from Russia because of this use in Ukraine?).

Once orbital site is done at BC, they can get on with building the second one - even before FAA finally relents. BC does allow for a fully over-water easterly path, routing between south Florida and Cuba. They can build at BC, deliver SS & SH by launch from BC, go south of FL, then reverse and...

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

Electric pickups provide a rare & narrow "now or never" advantage to the first mover. They don't need a lot of parts to get sufficient "first mover advantage"; F-150 has big enough numbers that it's a small percentage to siphon off for that win. Tesla, while doing well, would need cut deeper...

    CyberTruck Image Leaked

So long as Tesla has massively more orders than they can fill, they'll raise the price. Supply and demand. Not just as "greed", but as a necessary point of economic friction providing better results than simply choking on supply chain limits without other benefit.

    CyberTruck Image Leaked

Kind of hard to comment on something we know nothing about. Apple specialty is flat computers, with robust ecosystem. A car is way outside that. As a hardcore Apple fan (making a good buck of the platform) I’m not excited about an Apple Car. Curious, open to info, yes; don’t expect.

Tesla all but confirms Cybertruck production delay until 2022

Seemed quite clear it was supply chain issues, and the choice was fulfill orders for existing products, or introduce new product and eat into current product. There just isn’t enough chips to go around with more products introduced. Better to maximize one than to under-produce both.

How many will look into the F-150 Lightning?

If Tesla can't deliver because supply chain issues, why would Rivian or Ford?
  35. dazedNconfuzed

They'll spend 2022 getting the factory ready. Once supply chain catches up, ready to go. That's assuming China doesn't go after Taiwan.
  36. dazedNconfuzed

Tesla all but confirms Cybertruck production delay until 2022

Supply chain constraints mean Tesla can only make so much of anything, so they're focusing on supplying primary products.

Tesla EV Tax Credits coming back?

This Administration & Congress seems very pro-union in the EV space, to the point of excluding/ignoring any business that doesn't have an active union. As such, expect Tesla will not benefit from climate legislation for non-climate reasons.

What gets me: the angles on CT are such that viewing it from different angles has a radical effect on perception. Anyone switching to a Rivian R1T after watching reviews?

    1. There are more passengers of influence than just the driver (me). It's not gonna happen if my wife gets to the point of "we have to stop AGAIN? for HOW LONG?" on a 1000 mile trip. Once, maybe a second for a short boost, is vital to normalize this. 2. Vacationing in the sparse West will...

    SpaceX F9 - Starlink Group 4-6 - LC-39A

The non-laser Starlink satellites can only bounce signals from Earth to Earth. If a data packet need go farther, it has to bounce ground-orbit-ground-orbit-ground-orbit-... until it arrives. Laser-enabled Starlink satellites can send, thru the vacuum of space, a data packet directly to the...

    Cybertruck as mobile powerwall

The service provider provides service with the understanding that they’ll be the primary. They don’t want to invest considerable infrastructure cost only to find you have them only as backup. If you want their service, understandable they’ll insist you shut off on-site solar/well/septic/etc...

    CT backfeeding your house

I expect the engineering liability on this application is much more complex than appears. That’s a lot of power going where simple mistakes can burn houses down. Interesting F-150 status email

“The conversion to EV’s will be resisted by both sales and service at the dealerships” That’s what killed photo giant Kodak. New screen UI in Cybertruck

That opens a Pandora's Box of other audio "must haves", including Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. With most every driver having a phone supporting one of those two, seems a must-have to include them (which, AFAIK, Tesla hasn't elsewhere).

Tesla deletes cheap Cybertruck from its website

Ask too much, won't get any. Already straining the budget & bride with the Tri+FSD CT; 500 mile + >10k lb towing is minimum acceptable. Yeah they'll get plenty of orders without me, but I'm also not the only one with such limits.
