Spare full sized wheel for M3 - UK

I read this thread Saturday night and then Sunday morning woke up to an alert of a potential flat tyre 😂😂 rear right was on 13 PSI. First time in a car without a spare wheel. Fortunately i have a Sainsbury's petrol station v close by so I eased over, refilled with air and then drove a few...

Slap in the face by Tesla - Trade-in value £20k less than I paid Tesla just 18 months ago.

Tesla buys and sells used cars to make a profit on the same car twice. Same as any other manufacturer. My point was individuals should not buy cars as "investments". They are no such thing. You go into it *knowing* it will depreciate, the only question is by how much. I don't think anyone...

Slap in the face by Tesla - Trade-in value £20k less than I paid Tesla just 18 months ago.

Why would anyone buy a guaranteed depreciating asset as an "investment"?

New Model Y - regular black screen on wake up + phone call bug

None in the last week or so (though have had my bluetooth call issue, monitoring that).

New Model Y - regular black screen on wake up + phone call bug

No pattern that I can see (other than it's on wake when re entering the car). But how long the car has been asleep or the time of day seems to be unrelated.

New Model Y - regular black screen on wake up + phone call bug

I've created a service call and now messaging them each time it happens! Let me know if any of you get a response. It's still happening once or twice a week for me.

Model Y rear wheel arch scratch repair - what are your opinions on these vastly different quotes?

Honestly i totally agree with this. If you want to repair it because it bothers you / you don't like the look of it, then go ahead and do whatever you can afford / you're willing to pay. But if you're doing it because you're worried about charges at the end of the lease, then wait till much...

New Model Y - regular black screen on wake up + phone call bug

All, Two issues that have now happened a few times since I got my Model Y a few weeks ago, curious if anyone else faced the same. - A couple of times a week I return to the car and the screen is just black. Everything is on though (climate etc) + it's connecting to Bluetooth on my phone and...

    Park Assist and front camera

    - turn off autopilot/park assist etc - reboot (hold scroll wheels for 10 seconds) - let calibration finish if it hasn't already, or request recalibration in settings - turn autopilot etc back on

    Park Assist and front camera

Just reporting back that mine has fully cleared up, no degraded warnings etc. It works. But as others have said the distance measures and bongs and beeps are often not well correlated with actual distance. But tbh I rely mostly on the rear camera and mirrors. The main issue is not having...
  11. B

    Park Assist and front camera

Yes, same issue now. Cameras have finished calibrating, autopilot working fine, park assist working fine (with variable distance accuracy), but the degraded message still there. I am going to assume only a software update sometime in the future will actually fix this 🤦‍♂️
  12. B

    Park Assist and front camera

For park assist unavailable error: 1) go into autopilot settings and turn everything off 2) reboot car (hold the two steering wheel buttons for 10 seconds until everything turns off and back on [3) turn autopilot back on again if you want to] 1 & 2 fixed the park assist unavailable error for...

    Returning a Lease car

True! But I think fair enough if it's going to hurt the auction value. I'm just glad I didn't bother getting anything repaired or replaced
  14. B

    Alarm on unlock issue

This isn't the case. It just happens after your car is in deep sleep *plus* you open the driver door. If you open any others first it won't happen.

    Returning a Lease car

When I returned my leased Audi A3, they charged me £36+VAT for damage on 2 wheels. Was astonished. All quotes for repair were far in excess of that and not guaranteed to meet the BVRLA guidelines. The guy said they just have a huge assembly line making these wheels so it's much cheaper for them...

    2022.20

Hmmm now that you mention that, I noticed this morning that the click seemed much quieter than usual or maybe even non-existent but wasn't sure if that was just because I had my windows open so couldn't hear 🤔 Will need to listen out again soon.

    [UK] 2021.4.x

I think this is more to do with the naff way that Tesla maps works rather than the sharing from phone itself. For me, it works best to use a street address (whether directly on the screen or sharing from phone) vs. a postcode. When doing the latter it very often puts me in a random location, I...

Quality control on my new 2021 M3P

If the rolling metallic cannister sound happens when you're doing sharp turns at low speed I tend to get this too and have just ignored it! All the other items you should definitely get them to sort, and you might as well ask them to check that sound too while it's in (but it might be normal).

48.26 UI Changes - thumbs up or down?

No he hasn't. This response was about Model S/X, not what we have now on Model 3/Y.
  22. B

48.26 UI Changes - thumbs up or down?

It's a special kind of stupid when the update makes it both *more* distracting for the driver and yet *more* difficult to reach/see the important things he/she needs to see (e.g. map). What on earth were they thinking ugh

    [android] Phone nfc unlock

Are the Samsung battery saver settings killing/preventing the Tesla app from running in background? Would go and check settings and make sure it's exempted from any of those things.

BBC podcasts not available in Spotify

Yes aware but @Zakalwe was talking about a Sonos system in his home... Doesn't make much sense to me that BBC podcasts on Spotify would be blocked on that!

Seems odd that their protection would prevent playback from a UK IP address??

London TfL Congestion Charge / AutoPay

    Insurance and modifications

Why is it ridiculous? People with cars that have spoilers and tinted windows are more likely to be involved in accidents - so it's totally reasonable that their insurance is, on average, higher.

Battling bad etiquette by both EV and ICE drivers

Potentially - this is a car park with 60-70 spaces (but only 8 or so EV spots), so the coordination might become a faff...people just need to park in the other spots when they don't need the EV ones!
  29. B

Battling bad etiquette by both EV and ICE drivers

The 4m cable supplied with the Tesla has definitely been a big help! I also "threatened" to block him in if I needed to charge...he shrugged, so I'm taking that as a greenlight :)

Battling bad etiquette by both EV and ICE drivers

My flat's underground car park has a handful of parking spots with electric chargers. There's a persistent issue where both ICE drivers and EV/PHEV drivers park in those bays...even when the latter aren't plugged in and charging! Totally frustrating - fortunately I don't need to charge...

High insurance quotes because of previous speeding

Have you tried not speeding? Once maybe be bad luck, twice even. But three times suggests you've not learned anything (and setting the speed limit with +5 offset reinforces that). Shrug. Alternatively get a car which is just difficult to speed in!

    Camera(s) blocked or blinded

It's normal if the camera is blocked on the left...?? I had exactly the same driving on country roads against/alongside trees/bushes/etc and when pitch black with no street lighting.

Phone walk away locking now working

No, mine has worked without issue all along. I have it running in background/in notification shade.

    PCP V SALARY SACRIFICE

Fair point - the salary sacrifice route is *significantly* cheaper over 3 years so really should be a no-brainer if it's available to you. Of course there's the risk that you're forced to take the car on a PCP if you decide to leave the company etc (that's what mine is anyway). So should weigh...

    PCP V SALARY SACRIFICE

If you don't care about owning the car and you're going to be happy keeping it for the contractual term, go with the lease. If you want the option of buying or changing what have (and you realistically think there's a possibility of these things happening), go with PCP. If you see yourself...

Side Swiped a Taxi on Autopilot

Exactly. People need to forget about getting into their Tesla and arriving at their destination with no human intervention - it's just not going to happen in any reasonable timeframe.
  37. B

Side Swiped a Taxi on Autopilot

And by the way, for the avoidance of doubt, the Tesla Model 3 does have a radar, as well as the cameras. So for me, it's doing the same pretty 'dumb'/passive driver assistance that every other car does, but has then bolted on some adjustments with all the cameras which results in unexpected...

Side Swiped a Taxi on Autopilot

Read this article and you will understand why: Why emergency braking systems sometimes hit parked cars and lane dividers Also you'll understand why Tesla's system is really not that sophisticated at all right now, so people testing/trying it on streets with parked cars, pedestrians etc is just...

Side Swiped a Taxi on Autopilot

The cause is obvious: you used autopilot on a road it's expressly not designed for. Read the manual.

    [UK] 2020.40.x

Nevertheless, you don't know what it was "seeing"/interpreting so you don't know what it thought it needed to do. And it doesn't know it was on a city street instead of where it's intended to be used (dual carriageways and motorways). So the fact that it braked when it didn't need to and too...

    Motorcycle couriers and Deliverooligans

Thank you @VanillaAir_UK for stating what many choose to ignore. If autopilot and autosteer happen to work nicely on a city street that's basically luck. It's not designed, in its current form, to actually navigate any of those situations. And no, we shouldn't be feeding data into this neural...
  42. B

    [UK] 2020.40.x

I presume that feeling is not unexpected though given that autopilot and autosteer are definitely not designed for any streets with parked cars (see manual), so it's an accident waiting to happen... :p

    [UK] 2020.40.x

Oh, yes, that I can understand. But I have seen others suggesting they want the car to slow down by the time it reaches the speed limit sign - seems crazy to me given reading speed limit signs is not 100% or even 90% reliable and other drivers won't expect this behaviour.
  44. B

    [UK] 2020.40.x

Not me! I really don't want the autopilot speed to change automatically in response to speed signs - until all other cars are behaving in that way (i.e. immediately at a speed sign), I just think it happening automatically is far too dangerous and would actually make me more on edge about what...

First v3 Supercharge - why so slow?

Totally agree. In my view/experience it's not worth treating chargers along routes like petrol stations where you top up to full. More costly and time-consuming. You're better of just making sure you're going to get back home with 10-20% and plug in there.

    PCP “Estimated Residual Value”

Hmm, strange. I had an Audi A3 and the inspection went totally fairly and transparently - he just went around with his iPad and told me what he was noting down. Couple of wheels scuffed/damaged beyond the guidelines so they charged me £36 for each - was pretty good as the actual repair costs...
