    Charging Network RFID Cards (MiFare)

I got the BP card now, it’s different to the Evie card. I just posted in the BP. I’m no expert on the card technology, but the BP card feels like an opal card, has a longer identifier, and my phone can scan it as an NFC - unlike the Evie card. No idea what that means, but it might help you -...

    BP Pulse Network

Well got the BP card yesterday. The number it has is 14 characters compared to the 8 of the Evie cards. So at least it’s a different number range for the clashing concern I had. It’s also NFC unlike the Evie cards. (At least my phone can’t scan the Evie cards I have - and the BP card feels...

    BP Pulse Network

You would hope this is true at least. But it won’t stop the card from being tapped and billing your account. In any case it’s likely safe, just keep an eye out for erroneous charges. With any luck these cards are all coming from the same manufacturer. Sharing them like this would be a better...

    BP Pulse Network

And yeah that's my point. The eager new card recipient will try and tap it and it will work and you will be paying for their charge - and I'm not sure how helpful support will have to be in providing a refund considering it's likely against the terms.

The key being "no issues YET". As pointed out, in theory, there's enough numbers to avoid overlap if they are indeed 32 bit. But they aren't necessarily checking for uniqueness when they generate these cards.

    BP Pulse Network

I've ordered one as well, but that was going to be my question. I've also added my evie card(s) to the chargefox app. Part of me is starting to wonder even if it works, isn't it becoming a bit of a risk though, as more and more EV drivers get cards surely the numbers could start to overlap...

    Superchargers in Australia

Yeah but as I said the car was still showing 3 despite my eyes seeing 5/6 free. So there’s a delay or fudge factor baked in anyway.

    Superchargers in Australia

One thing I’ve noticed is how out of date these seem to get. Pulled off the highway into Goulburn showing a 5 minute wait. Tap the icon a k or so from the charger and it refreshes to 2 then 3 available. By the time we pulled in there were 5 or 6 bays free. Without “on the ground” PlugShare...

    NRMA fast charging network

Have they (BYD) given any indication or gotten anywhere resolving this? I think they were blaming tesla at first, but now it’s another brand as well seems to point towards the car having a peculiarity in a part of the protocol. Doesn’t seem to affect the dolphin or seal though.

New Tesla PW2 install on two phase house.

The car charger. If it was only connected on the power wall phase then it couldn’t cause the other phase to pull from the grid. But probably best to ignore me because I’ve no idea obviously.

New Tesla PW2 install on two phase house.

would a cheaper option than a whole new pw3 setup be to simply wire the charger only to the single phase with solar/pw2? I feel like if you’re doing this for the payback of being able to charge cheaply from solar/battery then another $15k on batteries is just going to hurt your “savings” even...

    NRMA fast charging network

The answer is “3 phase power” and Europe uses the same as us (since they have a roughly similar 3 phase system as us). Tesla connector only has 1 phase, hence they can reuse the live pins for AC or DC.

    NRMA fast charging network

I was there yesterday. They are online and ready to use, pricing all configured. Seem to have card readers too. I pressed start charge and it said to swipe my card. The only issue is the bays have just been painted so there were a couple of cones around. Paint was dry though.

Is it illegal to speed to the speed limit from the traffic lights when the signal turns green?

I think as long as you make sure to give up the overtake as soon as you notice the car next to you trying to race you would be mostly safe. Stay neck and neck too long, and all of a sudden you're "street racing" or potentially some other "anti-hoon" law.

    Superchargers in Australia

It seems to be in the USA that the rate you start at applies to the whole charge. I’ve seen photos of people all waiting to plug in at midnight for the off peak rate.

    Supercharger - Blaxland, NSW

I think it is. I used the end bay so it wasn't impossible. But if it was a middle bay and a car was in the other bay then I don't see how I could do it based on where I had to stand in order to get the cable out. it was a very awkward reach around the pillar and then to twist the charger...

    Supercharger - Blaxland, NSW

Ok despite living so close to it, I’ve only today finally had the chance to try this charger, not in the Tesla, but still the width of these spaces are ridiculous. Hopefully they (both Tesla and blue mountains council I assume) learn some lessons on how much space a charger really requires...

Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in Australia to other brand EVs.

So it definitely appears to be a GWM/BYD specific issue. I wonder what V3 could be doing so differently within the CCS standard? Or it could be GRM/BYD doing something slightly non-standard too. Haven't seen any other consistent reports on plugshare across all brands and across all chargers...

Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in Australia to other brand EVs.

Also seems like BYD/Ora having the same problem at Tuggeranong which is also a V3 charger. I do see some successful MG ZS check-ins though.
  21. A

Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in Australia to other brand EVs.

Nobody is really adding any details to those checkins to say what problem the BYD are having, but I wonder if it is the "got to hold the charger up/tight to the vehicle while it handshakes." issue. As for Ioniq 5, isn't their problem the 800v/400v conversion issue? They will always be slower on...

    Model 3 Highland live now

"slight" price increase? it's near enough 10%. I was hoping the supposed manufacturing cost efficiencies might have counteracted a bit of the currency movement at least leaving it the same price. But yeah, no stalks. Looks like no parking sensors. I don't see them maintaining the sales lead...

Is my charger pulling too much energy?

The +3kWh is how much charge was added during this session. 2kW is what it's currently pulling, but you're in the car with the heat running, and you also have some sort of dashboard connected too that will be pulling power, potentially keeping something awake.

    KFC Goulburn fast charging

Yeah that's how they did NRMA too. It was good enough. They seem to have increased the branding lately. For example look at the screenshot from that video of this new site this week. The only logos are large Chargefox logos. Front and centre on both the signs shown. Which also describes them...
  25. A

    KFC Goulburn fast charging

If that's the case then they need to tone down the logos - or handle complaints better. A small one next to the QR code (which will open the correct app anyway) would be enough to answer the "which app" question. Leave the major branding to the owner if they don't want to be responsible for...

    KFC Goulburn fast charging

Chargefox needs to decide what they want to be. A billing backend only, or a charging provider. They are happy to slap their stickers on everything, but then when people complain to them that "their" charger is down it's all "this is not our charger, contact the owner".

Insurance is getting out of hand

And for me up until the Tesla NRMA was always cheapest for all my previous cars (excluding the no-name/white-label/supermarket insurers) - but they basically gave a "go away" kind of quote for Tesla ($3000+). GIO was cheapest for the Tesla so far, and the renewal has come in much better than I...

    ChargeFox EV charging Network

First I think idle fees should be pretty lenient on AC chargers (potentially none). They are generally for plugging in and going to the shops or other activities. Second, people will learn eventually that a DC fast charger isn't for "plugging in and going out for the day". It's for plugging in...

Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in Australia to other brand EVs.

The Ford and GM announcement timing is strange to me. Why announce it so far out from making the switch? Seems like an Osborne moment. Surely it would hurt sales in the meantime. Why would I want to buy a car now that’s going to have an obsolete plug in 18 months? I also don’t think it will...

Supercharger charging speed throttling when busy

The drive to Goulburn will warm up the battery a lot more than a short drive through Canberra though. Very cold today so without a decent preheat charging can be slower too. I’ve been at Canberra with a full house and people complaining is slow, but I’ve only experienced it if it’s the start...

    Supercharger - Gundagai NSW

There was a PlugShare checkin where somebody mentioned the Oliver’s staff said the chargers were moving around the front. At least it will fix the quagmire that is the current Chargefox position.

    Supercharger - Campbelltown, NSW

Sure that’s an easy workaround in this case, but on a busy Saturday afternoon when the carpark is full? But to be clear, I was talking more about the general case of disabled charging stalls. What happens when one of the Goulburn or majura stalls earns their blue badge?
  34. A

    Supercharger - Campbelltown, NSW

The problem is nobody has explained how to deal with the conflict with the "charging marked spot" which is also a road rule now? Are we following handicapped toilet stall rules (i.e. use it last)? or is it fully out of bounds to non-disabled permit vehicles who need to charge?

CyberVault has been released in China but when will it arrive in Australia?

It seems to be a bit more than that, it has a circuit breaker at the top and the part in the middle seems hard wired to the circuit breaker. It could just be something needed to meet an outdoor electrical regulatory requirement in China? To be honest it looks like a PITA to use with the way...

    Superchargers in Australia

The current situation is bad, but doesn't hiding the Type 2 plugs in this way cause issues with legacy vehicles that still use the Type 2 plug for supercharging? If I buy a second hand Model S I will find it difficult to find superchargers that still have the old plugs attached to them won't...

    Supercharger - Exeter, NSW

This site could really be a big test of how ICEing resistant charging spots can be in Australia. It's a very small carpark that gets very busy at peak times. And if there are only 6 I really hope they don't have to include any of those "60 minute general parking" signs. Worst case, with 2...

    Supercharger - Campbelltown, NSW

To get back on topic though, assuming this is government funded, this could be the first site where we see how they are going to handle chademo on a brand new site? 4 x v3 gives the 12 stalls. Will they go tritium or will see a world first chademo plug on a V3 stall? (I have no idea if that's...

Western Sydney University charging (Now restricted)

I can see why they get angry, there's nothing more demanding than a "customer" using you for free stuff. I've learnt this myself in business, and it's plainly visible in the plugshare checkins at any free charger. But I never understood their long term end-game anyway. 1. Why would they want...

Tesla opening up the Supercharger network in Australia to other brand EVs.

I never heard this and I don't think it's a great idea at all. If there's a free spot, the BYD is still going to park in it and try and charge, it won't work, the app will say "site too busy, try later" - but he has to charge because the next charger is 80km away so he just waits until it works...

What all does Model Y come with, in Australia?

It does overwrite old videos as needed. I'm still on the original tesla USB after 18 months without any issues. Rather than "wearing out", I have seen some say the bigger issue is the read/write speed of the USB causing issues with playback making an SSD worth it, but I'm not seeing any actual...

    Superchargers in Australia

If other operators decide this they (and we as EV owners) have lost already. BP doesn't decide that Shell is selling all the petrol on a street so doesn't open a servo. Chargers will be the same, BP won't let Tesla get away with charging $2/kWh in a town because they couldn't be bothered...

    Superchargers in Australia

It's also the case that a lot of caravan parks don't actually provide any convenient power outlets to cabin sites. We don't have a caravan (and I imagine most EV drivers aren't towing a caravan either) but stay at Big 4 style parks often. We always book the "cabin with a car space next to it"...

Length and Amp rating of Type 2 Cable

It does, but can you be sure that all these cheap thin cables from dodgy factories are putting the correct resistor in? I’ve seen some awfully thin cables being sold as 32A capable. I can’t see how they are legit. Stand by for the fires to start and EVs to cop the bad rap.

    Supercharger - Gundagai NSW

The other thing people need to get used to is what “just enough fuel” actually is. Our first trip to Melbourne was the longest trip we had done at that point and so we overfilled as we weren’t quite sure how much to trust the navigation. (Also the aforementioned long walks to food) In the end...

    Supercharger - Gundagai NSW

Or to give themselves time to get back to the charger before incurring idle fees. Wodonga at least has toilets near by. But we had to go all the way across to the main road to get something to eat. Same at Goulburn. I’m surprised no food trucks have tried setting up near these chargers. A...

Tasmanian Fast / Ultra Fast chargers

Those Kempower units seem to have a great layout. And such long and stretchy cables by the looks of it. Hopefully we see more of these around as more and more cars are on the road with their plugs in different spots. With all this latest new it definitely seems like my next trip to Tasmania...

    NRMA fast charging network

I hear they bought a company that has a half decent app :) I would have to assume at some point their plan for making people pay for their chargers involves merging the two sets (chargefox+nrma) of chargers into a single set and representing in a single app.

What are you Aussies getting for cellular speeds in your cars?

I haven't tried it for a little while, but generally it will match a Telstra 4G phone in the same place. So I've seen 50+Mbps. Definitely haven't noticed any issues with spotify/netflix/kayo/youtube etc.
