To FSD or not, that is the question…

Ok, after having used it for a couple weeks, here’s an update on what I like and what I hate. Like: - updated visualizations - works well to ensure you know the car is seeing what you are. -nav on autopilot -Stop signs and traffic lights. -pretty good “judgement” on yellow lights - decisions...

MYLR2024 extended warranty - worth it or not?

No, I didn’t buy the extended warranty. I’m still thinking about it. ~2 months/2000km left to go in the original warranty. On a couple previous ICE cars, we had the option to buy the extended warranty up until the standard warranty expired.

MYLR2024 extended warranty - worth it or not?

My warranty is coming to an end on my 2020 M3 in Jun. Tesla just sent me an offer for 2 years or 40k extended warranty for $2400. I have until it expires to decide. I’ve only had one significant issue - they had to replace the super bottle for the battery coolant system. And 2 x control arms...

Canadian Model 3 Highland Check In

Don’t have one, but saw a black one in Ottawa on Sunday.

Need to replace my all season and snow tires , what are folks using in Canada?

I’m in Ottawa too. I’ve just finished the 4th winter on a set of 18” Conti Viking Contact 7s. I’ve been super happy with those, and I’ll probably buy another set this fall. For the summer, I put a set of 19” Conti DWS06+, and those are great. They’re nice and quiet, and handle great...

Alberta imposing $200 EV tax starting in 2025

Pay $200 per year “tax”, but save $2500+ per year on gas. I’m willing to deal with that. Cash flow-wise, you’re still ahead, and making a contribution to save the planet. EV weight is a red herring, especially AB. Typical pickup weight is around 5000lbs, and there are more pickups out west...

To FSD or not, that is the question…

I just tried it out on the free 30day trial, and I gotta say I’m impressed. Had a couple of speed issues (going less than the speed limit on a relatively narrow country road, and one left turn where the car went right into the right lane instead of going into the left lane then changing lanes)...

Left front fender camera error - anyone else have this?

BTW, I knew someone would comment on that. Lemme just say it was a long day of 12hrs in the car. I listened to a LOT of stuff that day.

Left front fender camera error - anyone else have this?

So this is the best explanation I got from Tesla service. It kinda makes sense, but It still doesn’t solve the problem of multiple recurring annoying error messages.

Left front fender camera error - anyone else have this?

For those who've had this, can you confirm if it's your L camera, or is it R camera, or both?

Left front fender camera error - anyone else have this?

Every time I drive in the dark on unlit country roads, I get a blocked/blinded error from the LF fender camera. This has happened repeatedly over years (car is a 2020), and successive software updates haven’t made a difference. I understand when it happens in wet/snowy conditions because the...

First time buyer looking for advice: Used M3P

For the $2500 difference in price (- flight, - hotels, food, supercharging) and a car you haven’t seen, I’d go with option 1. Buy an extra set of wheels and use the 18s for winter. Personally, I went the LR + acceleration boost route. It wasn’t worth the extra $10k (at the time) for track mode...

Model S - Front Plate Adhesive

Not illegal? I don’t have the specific reference, but when I researched it, the only thing I could find was a line in the ON highway traffic act along the lines of “you can’t tamper with licence plates”. I didn’t tamper with it, I just made a picture of it. 😁It’s reflective, dimensionally, and...

    Brakes and brake service

I don’t have a suggestion for replacements, but one of the things I do everyday is hit the brakes once or twice to keep them moving. One pedal driving is great, but brakes need to be “excercised”. Especially in winter, in a salty slushy place like Ottawa.

Model S - Front Plate Adhesive

Mine fell off after PPF. I went with one of these. Custom Licence Plate - Adhesive Licence Plate Replica it’s been on there for 3 years, and this is the 4th winter. Other than a couple minor stone chips, it’s been perfect. Nice clean look, easy to keep clean.

Supercharging growth lagging compared to sales

@KevinT3141 - Did you know you can cancel the preconditioning by pressing on the “Preconditioning …” flag? I’ve done that a couple times by mistake.

Has anyone installed Gen 3 Wall Connector in Ontario (Canada)?

Hey - you do you, I’ll do me. We’ll all be happy. 😄

Yeah, forgot about that part. Thanks.

Has anyone installed Gen 3 Wall Connector in Ontario (Canada)?

I bypassed that whole ESA headache by adding a 14-50, 50a rated plug to my Gen 3 WC, and plugging it into an electrician-installed 50a circuit. Then it’s just a matter of plugging in the WC, programming it, and away you go. Just like a toaster, or dryer, or stove… Bonus: when I move, I unplug...

New Model 3 in Montreal, Quebec…anybody know when we will be able to order one?

Standard Tesla answer: “soon.” Could mean anything between 5 days to 5+years…😏

No real-time supercharger status visible in car

Do you have Premium connectivity? If not, how would the car know how many are in use? It needs that data from somewhere…

Just ordered the CCS-1 adapter on the Canadian Tesla website

Mine is a 1 Jun 2020 build date and I needed the bundle of wires. Not expensive, bought on eBay. Simple DIY install.

    Eastern Canada Superchargers

I wonder if tesla also factors in the number of local tesla owners in their calculations to determine supercharger locations, along with owners’s driving heat maps. That’s what I would do if I were them. Not too many Teslas doing road trips in SW ON? No supercharger for you! (Read in your best...

    Trans-Labrador Highway

You could always give it a go. If you run out of juice, get someone in a pickup to tow you for a while and let the regen charge the battery. 😀

Here we go again with ‘unintended acceleration’…

Simply, aircraft only crash where the air meets land or water. “The edges of the air.” In the “middle of the air”, there’s nothing to hit except more air, or occasionally, another aircraft. It’s an old pilot joke. “Stay away from the edges of the air…” It kinda goes with old jokes like “you...

Here we go again with ‘unintended acceleration’…

Uncle creepy, thanks for the description. Humans (mis)managing automation has been the source of countless accidents, many with Tesla, and hundreds more in the aviation world. Flying is a little more complex (3rd dimension and all that), but many aviation accidents can be attributed to...

Can someone explain why we can’t get our software updates OTR if we already pay for premium connectivity?

So 2 things: 1. Premium connectivity isn’t unlimited bandwidth. At Halloween last year, I used the scary machine voice thingy in live camera sentry mode to spook kids on the street. I played around with it for a while, then I got an error message along the lines of “you have used all of your...

Ontario Ultra Low Overnight rates are now live

I guess it depends on your energy usage and your current plan. I’m on TOU. I just switched to all electric - heat pump, electric furnace backup, heat pump hot water. (No gas at all!) going ULOW might be fine during the summer (when I drive less - 🚴🏼‍♂️) but the higher peak usage rates are...

Does installing a hitch void your M3 warranty?

I don’t have any wiring for the hitch - it’s just for bikes. Wouldn’t a trailer with a short tongue show up on the sensors too? So same problem?
  31. S

Does installing a hitch void your M3 warranty?

I have a KUAT NV with my stealth hitch. It’s pretty bulky, but it works well for 2 bikes. I also have the extension for another 2 bikes - I’d hesitate to put that on the M3 just due to the size and weight. The 1up is a great rack if you need more than 2. BTW, I wish Tesla had a bike rack mode...

I just want to use windshield washer fluid with Autopilot

Actually, you can if there is no crud on the windshield. If it’s raining or there’s a lot of spray, you can’t. Whether “auto wipers” is off or not, you can make sure they’re not wiping if the windshield is clean.
  33. S

I just want to use windshield washer fluid with Autopilot

You can turn the wipers off again (on the screen) as long as the windshield is clear. I have to say that I despise the auto wipers. They have 2 speeds - too fast and faster, and they clearly didn’t do much testing in places that get rain, snow, sleet or salty road spray. Engineering fail IMO.
  34. S

    Hidden hitch cover off, replace?

I’d replace the screw. Otherwise, you’ll pick up a lot of snow, dirt and crud in there, and lose a tiny bit of efficiency.

    Moisture in front frunk

I do the same. Never had any moisture in the frunk. Maybe a stupid question, but was it properly closed?

    Most Stereotypical Car in Vancouver

If you’re having challenges convincing your significant other that you should get a wrap, you could show them this thread as evidence. 🙃 Personally, I am bored of seeing white Teslas, and not just in BC.

Barrie Supercharger (South) - handles in snow

I think it’s a bit of wear and tear on the little plastic bits that hold the cable up.

Tesla replacing ultrasonic sensors with Tesla Vision

Has anyone tried this? There are no reviews on the AO website.

Barrie Supercharger (South) - handles in snow

In the colder weather, some cables seem to be too inflexible to stay in the holster. It happened to me in 3 x different locations in the last week.
  40. S

    How would you handle this...

You could just use a sharpie.😁

    Supercharger - Kemptville Ontario

I charged there on 9 Dec (first time there.) There were 4-5 other cars and I peaked out at 151kw. Starting SOC was 4%, but it took almost 4-5 mins to hit 151kw.

    Supercharger - Madoc, ON

Absolutely! I do a trip a few times a year from Kanata to Cambridge and back, and Hwy 7 is heavenly compared to the 416/401. It’s a way more scenic and more relaxing drive. Especially if you have the acceleration to not be stuck behind an RV for 30mins. 😁 Now with Madoc open, there are more...

USA tax credit to affect Canada prices

I think that increasing worldwide production will be the biggest factor in any price drops as backlog reduces. Tesla knows the difference between US and Canadian regs, and they’ll maintain prices in Canada as long as the demand will support them. It’s not cheap or easy to transfer new cars...

PPF Stealth Wrap - Good or Bad?

I would definitely give them the chance to make it right. If they refuse, then flame away!

    Graphene/ Ceramic/Kamimaze/ etc

Don’t skip the clay. It doesn’t take long, and cleans off the crud from manufacturing and transport. 1 bottle should be plenty for 2 coats, but a second wouldn’t hurt to have around.

Official Tesla CCS1 adaptor now available in Canada.

I just ordered one and my 2020 LR isn’t CCS enabled yet. However, on the app under service, it showed this. I do have “a bundle of wires” though. All I need now is the updated charge port controller

    Graphene/ Ceramic/Kamimaze/ etc

I did Avalon King’s Armor shield IX for about $100. Lasted 2 years on a daily driver over 2 winters. Recoated it last month, which was pretty easy. Good stuff, especially at that price. The only caveat is that the more time you spend in prep before you coat it (wash carefully, iron remover...
