Anyone tried the "Active Exhaust" systems?

Tried it on the rear motor. One of the problems is that the microphone also picks up other sounds from outside, like the engine sound from other cars :) which is them pumped in your speakers. At the track, I would just remove the back seat which increases the rear motor sound in the cabin.

Square 20" wheel setup for refresh Model S - what do I need to know?

There are several sizes for the TS5s. I put the 20x10" square setup on my Plaid with better summer tires and could not be happier with it. You will lose some range compared to the OEM 19" Tempests, but on the other hand, the TS5s are more open and the brakes will cool down better.

Work in progress: stalks on 2021 Model S. (and optional round-y wheel)

I'm also embarking on this journey. I'll start with the turn-signal stalks with LIN MITM. I'm going the Android route, inspired by the availability of this library: https://github.com/Beirdo/Arduino-LIN It comes with a Lin2Lin example, which listens on one LIN bus and sends a copy of the...

Plaids with 20" tires AND rear inner tire wear?

@alienranch did you end up going with a 285/35/20 square setup? If so, what's your feedback on it?

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

You'd definitely need different rotors. I was wishfully thinking that MPP could use their existing hats on larger and thicker Girodisc rotors.

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

Can you share a link to the kit/pads? Do you need an adapter to mount the caliper? Did you do anything to the rears?

Model S Plaid Brakes Are Terrible!

I wonder if it will be possible to buy the brake calipers that come with the Carbon Ceramic from Tesla, and get iron discs and pads from a third-party, such as MountainPass. The Tesla Parts Catalog shows 4 rear TRACK PACK calipers (presumably 2 for the main brake, and 2 for the parking brake)...

Aftermarket Wheels - Do I need hubcentric rings for Model 3 Performance

Get these if you can have them shipped to your location: https://www.ebay.com/itm/322672882789 To have the rings sit on the lip of the performance brakes, you need the 70.1 inner diameter. I used them on my Konig Dekagram (same size) for numerous track days and had 0 issues with them. Other...

The quest for wider wheels and tires, 295, 305 and beyond...

I’m on my third set of AR1s and I’m very happy with them. They take 1 minute to heat up, but then are good to go. Tread life is good, 40 laps at the Nurburgring, but that’s a high speed track and not very hard on tires. I don’t have anything to compare them to on the Model 3 other than street...

Will 18" Aero wheel fit a car with Performance big brakes?

Early 18 aeros were not machined, and from 2020 we've started seeing machined ones. I would not be surprised if all of the ones that are produced now were machined to accommodate for that lip. Of course, if you can look at the wheel, you can spot it.

Will 18" Aero wheel fit a car with Performance big brakes?

For me the weights clear the calipers. I don't have the wheels on right now to take a picture in place, I only use them during winter. The blue sticker is where the weights were last season.

    Help - Curbed Underside Model 3 2022

Be careful with the metal clips. They have a tendency to want to jump inside the frame through the holes, and then you're stuck with having them move and make noise every time you accelerate and break (ask me how I know). If this happens, you can use a telescopic magnet to fish them out.

Brake fluid low message on Plaid

I rented a Plaid on Turo. The brakes had low bite but the pedal did not feel mushy. I was expecting that, and I'm spoiled coming from a Model 3 with BBK and race pads. After some light spirited driving on back roads, the "Brake fluid low" message came up. I pulled over immediately and inspected...

Will 18" Aero wheel fit a car with Performance big brakes?

Just the rear calliper, you need to shave the square shape that sticks out, which is likely from the calliper casting. No need for spacers if the wheels have been machined to accommodate for the lip that the performance hub has.

Car not coming to a complete stop using hold mode

I had similar events, where I lifted the accelerator pedal expecting regen to slow down the car, only to have nothing happen for around 1 second, and then have regen kick in at regular power. Because you expect regen, it almost feels like the car is accelerating (which it is not). This happened...

Normal front motor noise? High pitched modulation with neutral load. Sound clip attached.

Yes, normal. I put a microphone on mine to hear it better and it sounds the same. It might just be how the car is programmed, to send power in short bursts when under light acceleration.

DIY Big Brake Kit with Brembo 6 piston Calipers

I don't have experience with the CTS-V conversion so I can't comment on that, but I've had the StopTech ST-60 kit from MountainPass installed for a year (5 track days and 30k miles) and I could not be happier with it. I'm also using their rear clamshell, which eliminate the very annoying pad rattle.

Anyone tried the "Active Exhaust" systems?

It would be great if ScanMyTesla or tes•LAX would add a feature to generate an EV sound. The Glydsphere looks promising, but it's not using any of the CAN data available, which is a missed opportunity. I'd use this at the track for in-cabin sound, to help my brain more easily register the speed...

    M3P front inside tire wear

Partially, yes. I switched to a new set of winter tires right after and they still got a bit more wear on the inside of the front tires, but not as extreme as before. In fact I'm still using those tires now in the second winter season with the car (rotated).

    Improving brake "feel"

When I first got the car (Performance), I thought the stock brakes were OK. Nothing extraordinary, but nothing to complain about either. After a visit to the track (2 sessions of 15 minutes), they became the worst brakes I ever experienced, most likely due to glazing. I did add the MPP brace...

MASTER THREAD: Comprehensive Road-Course Modification Guide — Optimizing the 3 for the track

As already mentioned on this thread, with hold mode, I rarely use the brake in the city, and even when...

Please help on abnormal tire wear (Track). Thanks!

No problem at all removing the wheels with the hub centric rings. I could only source plastic ones in that size when I got the wheels and I expected them to melt, so I got 2 sets of 10 for good measure. After 3 track days, I'm still using the original 4 plastic rings. And I was using the brakes...

Please help on abnormal tire wear (Track). Thanks!

If you're going to get a dedicated set of wheels for the track (which is ideal), go with a track dedicated tire. Cup 2 is a great tire, but Michelin made compromises with it to make it work for street as well. If you only have 1 set of wheels, Cup 2 is a good compromise, but for track wheels...

Raybestos Track Pads for Model 3

What track pad setup front/rear would you recommend the MPP BBKs (StopTech caliper front, and thicker rotor with clamshell in the rear), on wider stickier tires (265 mm AR-1)? ST43 front and rear, or XP12 front and rear?

    Upgraded To OEM Performance Brakes

Confirmed with a test fit. The front MPP BBK Stoptech calipers fit over the 18" aeros with tight clearance (but enough for my comfort). I did the test mount with the stock rotors (was not ready to cut the dust shield just yet). I expect the spokes to have even more room with the thicker hat...

Great, thanks for the confirmation. I already took care of the rear calipers (grinding and red caliper paint) and have the 18" aeros on for the winter.

    Upgraded To OEM Performance Brakes

Looks nice. How much clearance do you have to the wheel barrel? I ordered a set, and it would be great if the 18 aeros cleared the calipers, for efficiency and other reasons, even if it’s a tight fit. MPP description states they don’t fit.

Matching LR AWD efficiency in P3D+

Will 18" Aero wheel fit a car with Performance big brakes?

Carbotech Performance Brake Pads for Model 3 - Review

After putting a generous amount of brake anti-squeal paste on the back of the pad (Liqui Moly 20240, I don't have access to CRC), I don't hear the rattle anymore when driving. I have a track day coming up in 10 days, I hope this will withstand the track abuse.

Installed my tablet on a dash mount

I have a similar setup, with a Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2019) 8" and the Steelie ize car mount kit. Instead of the typical setup, I decided to stick the large ball on the tablet and to put the small ring on the car. This way, it's a bit more discrete when I remove the tablet. I also added some...
