10% better range by servicing brakes

In the fall of 2022, I attempted to service my brakes (clean and grease). I was able to do the rear brakes, but didn't do the front. It appears that my early 2020 AWD MY has performance brakes up front (although grey), and these require an E18 socket that I didn't have. Anyway, it seemed like...

Detecting a supermanifold leak before losing HVAC w/ pic

I had a slow refrigerant leak on my 2020 MY that was causing dyed oil (yellow) to pool on top of my supermanifold and drip down the side. I scheduled an appointment with Tesla and they replaced it. If you happen to pop your cowl off for whatever reason, it's easy to see if you are having the...

No headlights in heavy rain, seriously???

I've see this buried in other threads, but it was news to me. My 2020 MY happily turns on the wipers in heavy rain, but will not turn on the headlights automatically. Driving in the rain with wipers on and headlights off is illegal in many states, and certainly not safe. I had no idea until...

Reducing degradation stress - a tale of three batteries.

After careful observation of countless posts on battery degradation, and how concern about this can take away some of the joy of Tesla ownership... Consider these three scenarios: Scenario 1: Larry, whose 2020 MY AWD is doing terrible... In 6000 miles, his battery range has plummeted. He's...

28% is too bright at night - adjustment resets on autopilot engagement

I find 28% screen brightness too bright at night. I've turned it down both with auto brightness on and auto brightness off. As soon as I engage autopilot, the screen switches back to auto and creeps right back up to 28%. I have FSD beta, so I'm not sure if all cars so that or just the beta. It...

255/50r19 quatrac pro on Gemeni w pics

Very early review (10 miles), I'll post more later. I replaced my OEM tires at 22k miles. The rears had 4/32 (9/32 new) and the fronts had 4.5/32. I wanted a better tire for the snow. 1. The taller tire seems to fit. Any larger or a more square shoulder, and it'd hit the control arm (see pics)...

Easy and effective low frequency fix

I have solved the low frequency issue with my car. I had a 41 Hz standing wave that would come and go. It wasn't good. If the hatch bumpers are loose, a crazy subsonic buffeting occurs. I'm talking about the annoying rumble that is still there when the bumpers are properly adjusted. To keep it...

    Software version that disables radar?

Once someone with radar gets a software update that disables their radar, please share with the group. I suspect an easy way to tell is that the max AP speed will drop to 75. Just scroll the speed up and see if it stops at 90 (radar) or 75 (no radar). Thanks!

Winter consumption only 15 Wh/mi over summer / fall :)

My lifetime (from Late June -Dec 21, 2020) was 244 Wh/mi. After averaging 259 Wh/mi across the winter, my lifetime is 250. While I did preheat often, which helps lower apparent consumption, I'm very happy with how efficient the MY is in the winter. The heatpump clearly makes a big difference...

Is the 10% degradation per scanmytesla and teslafi after only 7000 miles real?

I've read many posts on this, including the tricks to help the BMS recalibrate. Both scanmytesla and teslafi say I've degraded 10% in just 7000 miles. I'm gentle on the battery, only charged above 90% a few times for a short period when it was cool out. I'm not worried, but am a little confused...

    Non-performance SoC 0-60 impact

There are many, many posts, graphs, and videos showing how the state of charge (SoC) impacts performance for the M3P and MYP. I've seen nothing on either AWD model. I suspect we keep full power down to 30% - 40% SoC vs starting to fall off around 70% like the performance models do. Does anyone...

Mike's new car - the antithesis of my MY

I just re-watched the Pixar "Mike's new car" short and thought to myself "that UI, and the whole car for that matter, is the antithesis of my Model Y." If you want to explain the beauty of the minimalist M3 or MY UI or the electric drive train, this short captures it perfectly.

Gen 3 cord 23 degree temp rise in 10 minutes :(

I've notice that my car shows 229 - 230 volts when charging. I decided to see where the losses are, and determined the primary issue is with the relatively thin 18' cord on the Gen 3 HPWC. The cord on my JuiceBox is much bigger. In hindsight, I wish I got the 8.5' cord or another JuiceBox. 237...

316 miles on a charge? Looks like no problem.

2 round trip commutes, driving ~5 MPH over like I normally do, mix of 70, 65, and 55 MPH roads. AWD, Gemeni wheels with covers. 75000 kWh/236 wh/mi=318 miles. Naturally I won't go 100% to 0%, nor am I certain that 75 kWh is really usable, but the car is capable of hitting the EPA range. BTW...

Does the Tesla HPWC have the cool metrics the Juice Box has?

I like seeing session KWH and lifetime KWH on my Juice Box. Does the Tesla HPWC show things like that? If not, does the car?

Glad my 3 day old MY got a flat - loose lug nuts!

Took off the tire today. Lug nuts were around 70 ft-lbs, a far cry from the 129 ft-lb spec. I literally could remove them with one finger on my torque wrench. I'll check my other three wheels when I get back from the tire repair shop. I recommend checking yours.

My MY had the unbearable deep buffeting that the MS had (and likely solution)

So driving to work for the first time in my new MY I was really bothered by a loud very low frequency noise. Someone on an old MS thread described it like strumming your fingers on a big base drum with your head inside. I think it's mostly, if not entirely fixed now. The trick is to put soapy...

    Smooth delivery today

With much concern from reading this forum and armed with my checklist, I headed out for my MY this afternoon. Its not perfect, but pretty close. Two paint imperfections that will be buffed out, a tiny chip near the headlight, and the biggest issue, a small scratch on the window where they...

Rear cross beam a big issue?

I've been concerned about the rear visibility in the MY due to the rear cross beam blocking so much of the view. This video also notes a potential safety issue. Thoughts?

MY arrived with busted roof glass, now what?

Now what? Wait 2+ weeks for a new roof and buy a repaired car? Unmatch the VIN and maybe wait 3+ months (with the FSD price increase)? Change order to buy FSD now and lose the $3k MD excise tax refund if they vote to find it again?

    Early MD deliveries

Owings Mills Tesla just called and said they have a bunch of MYs coming early. Truck is scheduled for this Friday with my red/black 57xx AWD 19" MY; they wanted me to take delivery early - this Saturday. I was hoping to see some more post-shutdown deliveries to verify the QC improved. Oh well...

    Post shutdown quality and changes

Getting a 59xx VIN this week, I'm hoping the post shutdown MYs will have higher build quality and the heatpump compressor sound shield. When receiving your 5000+ VIN vehicles, please share the build quality and any changes you find.

Is the heat pump toasty in very cold weather?

"I did notice that it didn't feel 70 in the car" was iTesla's comment about the cold portion of his 1000 mile run last week when asked "At what temperature did you notice the heat pump not keeping the interior of the car warm? I'm in Minnesota and It has to work in pretty cold temps here."...

Rear visibility compared to the new MY

Over on the MY forum, Georgia_Y was kind enough to post the picture below. This shows the rear view mirror of a Model Y, taken from where the driver's eyes would be. I'd appreciate it if am M3 owner could post the same view from their car as a comparison. When I test drove an M3, I was happy...
